Video Transcript for Taylor Made Boat Cover Support Pole and Vent Review

Adam: Hi, everyone. Adam with etrailer.com. Today, we have two boats. Two boats that are very different. One actually has some supports like you see here and it also has a vent to just help keep all that moisture out. This one, on the other hand, doesn't.

We can tell right when you come up to it, obviously, we're not supposed to have a little swimming pool here, and that's what the support is going to do. It's just going to lift it up, just so there is no space to where that water can sit like that. If the cover is in good shape, yes, it will keep that water out. But if it isn't, it's probably going to have to put it to the test. That's why I do believe that having an extension to just hold up your cover and also a vent, just to keep it nice and not moldy on the inside of your boat, is definitely going to be a plus. Also, when I walked out here, that's a good boat owner.

This one I kind of looked at, I was like, "Ugh, they don't necessarily take good care of their boat." And that's what this is going to do for you. The rod is going to come in two different sizes. And when I say sizes, I'm just going to talk about the fully extended. The one we're using here is going to be about 51 and a half inches fully extended but, obviously, we can adjust that. Also, we're going to have another one.

It's going to be about 64 inches extended. Just do me a favor, go in your boat with your cover on top of it and just measure, especially with it completely up, just to make sure you have the nice tightness here. It's not too tight, but it's enough to kind of keep that water off. This one, all I really had to do was kind of just place it in the little vent area, kind of push it up like so, and then twist it to lock it into place. But in regards to the vent, these are two different part numbers. You will have to buy them separately online.

It's pretty easy. I can't really show you on it really, just because half of it's going to be inside, half of it's going to be outside. But the basic principle is this. We're going to have two different wheels. Both are going to have teeth on them. The lower little wheel here is going to go underneath on the inside. And then, obviously, the top is going to stay on top. That's what we can see when we're outside. And then, of course, this little knob is going to go on the inside as well and you're just going to tighten that down. Just going to squeeze it and then you're pretty much done.Taylor Made also makes a swivel base pad. It's just going to give you a little bit more surface area to where that rod will hit the carpet of your boat, just to ensure that it's not going to go anywhere when it gets windy. Some boats are going to have multiple vents and holders. As you see here, we have about four on our pontoon. Just be sure and just kind of check. I think most of it is just going to depend on the cover for your boat. Depending on how many holes that it has, that's how many you can install on your boat.If your cover doesn't have vent spots on top, you don't have to buy the vent with this rod. We can use this as well. On the very tippy top there, we are going to get a little snap. A lot of these covers have that snap. All we really have to do is, once we get it set in place, we can actually utilize that and it will fit just perfect, just like that. Snap off, just like your cover normally would. Just because you don't have a cover with the vents, you don't have to buy the vents with it. You can just grab this rod and it will help keep all that water off the top of your boat. And if you already have some rods and you just want the vents, this little hole here, which it will house the little prop rod there. We are going to be able to fit in about three quarters of an inch tubing and also seven-eighths. And we are going to have a diameter of about four and a quarter inches. Our rod here is going to be made of aluminum so it will resist against rust and corrosion, whether you are near fresh water or salt water. Also with the vent, it's made of plastic, so it isn't going to be susceptible to any of that corrosion that you see with salt or fresh water. It is pretty easy to undo. All we got to do is just rotate this a little bit. It will come out and then we can twist it the other way and that will keep it nice and tight. We're going to have another little section here. You can twist like that and twist it again. Now, we're pretty much ready to go. I honestly do like this style a little bit better just because you don't have to adjust it and then maybe twist something like a little screw. With this, you just put it up to there. You're already holding onto it, twist it, done deal.Well, everyone. I hope this video helped kind of make your decision on what you guys need for your boat. All in all, it really just comes down to if you want to be a good boat owner or a bad boat owner. I do think your boats will thank you if they could talk. And I just think it's just going to give your boat that added protection that it needs when it's in storage. Again, this was the Taylor Made Rod and we do have a Taylor Made Vent for our covers on our boat.
