Surco Ladder-Mounted Chair Rack

Surco's ladder-mounted chair rack attaches to the vertical supports of your RV's ladder instead of to its rungs so that it can fit a wider variety of applications. In addition, the rack arms have a unique, built-in pivot feature that lets you swing them away from the ladder. Now you can maintain complete access to your ladder - as long as no lawn chairs are mounted at the time - with no need to remove the rack.

Surco Ladder-Mounted Chair Rack Swing Away

To pivot the arms of your rack to the side, simply remove the pull pins from the top brackets of each arm, swing the arms out and replace the pins to secure. Now you have full use of your van or motor home ladder. To use the rack, pivot the arms back and secure them in place in the same manner.

Surco Ladder-Mounted Chair Rack Clamps

The arms of the rack attach to the ladder supports with sturdy, secure clamps that hold the rack firmly in place, eliminating the bouncing and jostling that can occur with racks that simply hook onto your ladder. Just attach the arms, individually, to the 1-inch-diameter posts of your ladder, and you're good to go.

What's up everybody, it's AJ with Today, we're gonna be checking out the Surco lawn chair holder. So this is gonna mount onto the ladder on the back of your rig. Like we have set up here and it's gonna allow you to save space in the basement door or in the rig itself from storing lawn chairs. So all you do flip it upside down, set them in place and strap it down. And you're good to go.

Let's check it out. You got the cinch straps here that hold this portion of the lawn chair. Now it still will get a little bit of movement when you're going on the road. I suggest getting some cam buckle straps from etrailer and strapping it to the ladder maybe to hold it a little tighter that might work. And then cinch straps come undone pretty easily We want to go remove the lawn chairs.

The lawn chairs are shoot, sitting on these arms that come out and they have rubberized portion underneath with grooves. So you can kind of see that the frame of the lawn chair is in those grooves. That's kind of nice, 'cause you can see I'm pushing it back and forth, and they're not moving the lawn chairs. They're kind of gripped on that rubber. So it's not gonna just slide back and forth.

You always wanna strap it down, but that's just nice that it's there also protects the frame of your lawn chair from getting scratched up or scratching those arms up. Now I've worked with one similar to this the Stromberg Carlson version. It has a weight capacity of 50 pounds, which this one does too. However, this one says, they're gonna hold up to six lawn chairs. Now the Stromberg Carlson said it could only hold four.

So this is the route to go. If you want to carry those extra chairs they say this one can do it. The other thing is it feels like a little heavier duty. Then the Stromberg Carlson one, the arms themselves just feel a little bit heavier. Those are made out of aluminum. These just feel like they might last a little bit longer too. And I think that's gonna be good, especially if we're gonna put those extra lawn chairs on there. Another cool feature is that you can pull these pins out of the top and you can move the arms out of the way so you can even store them in this position too. Drop the pin back down in there. We're not gonna do that cause I'm just gonna put it right back into place. But just wanted to show you, you can pull this pin out. With them folded to the side like this and you can just climb up and use your ladder. So I really like that you don't have to make a decision whether you want the carrier on there to carry the lawn chairs or if you want the use of your ladder you can leave them mounted there all the time and just fold them outta the way when you need to. Now, how hard is it gonna be to install This one's actually easier than some of the other ones I've messed with. So the Stromberg Carson one again that one had the little bolts but you had a nut on there too. So you kind of had to hold both of those up there while trying to hold this up while screwing that in. Now, if you had a couple extra set of hands that'll probably help you out. This one seemed to be a little bit easier just because these are threaded these brackets on this one. So there's no nut on the backside which means you just run in the bolt with a tool. They give you to attach the ladder, check out how we did it. So first thing I went ahead and installed one arm already just to get it out of the way and show you what it looks like when you're going to set this up make sure you put this portion that the pin goes into towards the outside because when you're not using it you wanna be able to fold these arms outta the way so you can still use the ladder. So with that in mind, we got this one put into place and now we're gonna do this bracket. I went ahead and installed this bracket already just so that can help me keep my hands outta the way. So you actually see what I was doing. So what you're gonna do is, you got these bolts and these clamps. So they have the two bolts in there. We're gonna put this on the backside of our rung and the ladder. And that's what it's gonna attach it to the ladder. One thing I would recommend doing is taking these bolts with the tool that they included. They give you this Allen wrench, take these and pre run them through every one of these holes before you get this up there. Because if some of them, the screw didn't, or the bolt didn't, wanna go in all the way. So I had to kind of make it go through with this and then back it out. And it was fine. It was way easier that way. 'Cause I put the first one on there. It was a bit of a struggle to kind of pull it out of the wrench. It just didn't want to go. It was easier just to do it out on the table run all those bolts through back 'em back out. And it's gonna be far easier when it's time to set it out. So I got the bracket coming here on the backside. And then with my other hand, I'm gonna try and do the one closest to you, gonna line it up and go and get the bolt started on this side so that can't let go of it and focus on the next side. That can be a little bit of a tedious process because the bolt is kind of small, then line it up and pinch it together to make sure it threads in properly. But it's actually not that bad. Here, come up on this side now. Same thing as we did, line up that bolt, make sure the clamps push together, and then just start to turn it. It'll start threading then to the ladder portion. Once you get it started by hand you can come back with a tool and further tighten it down. Now I do recommend jumping back and forth to tighten it evenly. You don't wanna do one side too much too quickly. So that's about good on that one. We'll come back on this side and continue. And that's about it for the install. Once you've got that in place they're attached you can see it's not rattling or going anywhere. We got the pin bounce over here on this side but it seems pretty sturdy. Sturdy enough. That's for sure for the chairs. Let's go ahead and throw one of 'em up there and test it out. Lawn chair, get in that position right there on the grooves looks like we still got plenty of space between our carrier and our lawn chair carrier. I think this is gonna work just fine. All right and run our cinch straps around the bottom of our chairs. Just like that on both of those it's gonna help hold it in place. With the cinch strap make sure you go along the backside, and then come up through the top, and then come down on the opposite side. Then you can just pull tight. It's on there pretty good. They're not gonna move too much on the back here but I would recommend maybe getting an etrailer cam buckle strap to wrap around here, so you can go ahead and tie this part down in the ladder. Maybe then the lawn chairs won't move at all. So you don't have to worry about anything. Overall thing, it's pretty handy to have. I like this. I like the ability to store these on the outside of the rig and not have to take up any space anywhere else. You're not using this space really anyway, so. And the other nice thing about it is with that mount in there they don't get in the way you can easily just shove them aside to use a ladder if you need to. Well, I think that about does it. Thanks for hanging out. And I hope this helped..

It does what it is advertised to do. I would purchase another one in the future.

This is a well built device for hanging camp chairs on your RV. Easy to install although you have to be careful which side goes where as there is a Left side and a Right side.
I mounted my unit directly to the back of my camper as there is no ladder. It was an easy installation. The brackets easily hold two folding chairs, three might be a tight fit. I only had one problem that was nothing to do with the design or anything, and that is when you drive your RV on dusty or muddy gravel roads the chairs will get very dirty and will have to be rinsed off when you get to your destination.

After a year of use? Just fine! No issues. . . may even be Covid 19 proof!

Good solid product and will make a difference . Quality item. One little mounting challenge/- the screws attaching the bars to the trailer ladder face outward, away from the trailer . As such, I had to lay on the top of my trailer roof extending my hand downward in order to insert and then tighten the screws with a wrench.if the screws faced inward mounting would have been a snap but this engineering goof made installation awkward .

nice product but a few comments.
product change would be to tap the bracket that goes on the back instead of the one on the front so when mounting you can install allen keys from the back, instead of reaching around to the coach side of the ladder to stick the allen screw in from the back.
I was hoping I could get our four recliners on the rack but the arms aren't long enough and after loading three which just fit, I decided that I didn't trust the stress on the ladder with the weight bouncing up and down as we go down the highway. Not sure if I'm going to keep it on the MH.
For lightweight chairs 2 or 3 it would be great. It is really well made overall.

Product works as designed. Our trailers' ladder is mounted in such a way as to make its use very limited.

works great, use it on my fifth wheel.

Well made. Easy to install. Straps would be easier if they snapped closed

Great items, just as seen on website, everything arrived quick and in great shape.

As expected and seems to be a very sturdy and well constructed item.
