Today were going to review part #: RKY0180. This is the Rocky Mounts quick release skewer for Rocky Mounts bike carriers. This quick release skewer comes installed on the Rocky Mounts Tie Rod, Pitchfork and the Euro Pitchfork bike rack models. Itll serve as an upgrade on the Rocky Mounts Noose and the Lareat bike rack models. This is an ergonomic quick release skewer which is lockable. Right here there is a place for a locking core.
Itll help prevent theft of your bicycle. The locking core is sold separately. Its part #: RKY0331. This Skewer is a chrome alloy wrapped stainless steel construction. The handle is a UV resistant nylon handle.
Dimension, its about nine and a half inches long. It does come with a one year limited warranty. I just want to show you an example. This is the, I have here, this is a Rocky Mount Tie Rod roof bike rack and I took this skewer off of it. Basically, Ill just show you how it installs onto the roof bike rack.
One end would go through there, put the other end through there and then you just tighten them. Just like that. Then, what you would do is if you can see right here, the fork of your bike will go right in here and you just tighten this down until it snugs up against the fork of your bike. Then when it gets snug what youll do is just flip up this handle and thatll secure the bike fork to the roof rack. A common issue or question weve been getting from people that have this is theyre saying that after use for a while that this handle binds up sometimes, where the handle cant be moved up or down.
Actually whatll solve that problem as we checked with Rocky Mounts and weve had a few cases here, what they recommend to do is on the pivot points right here for the handle, right in here, theres some pivot points, they recommend to put a drop of oil or lubricant, like a try flow lubricant thats used on a lot of bikes or a WD40 on these pivot points. Thatll help this handle move very easily. Nice little tech tip there. This part does come with a one year limited warranty. That should do it for our review on part #: RKY0180, the Rocky Mounts quick release skewer for Rocky Mounts bike carriers.

These have a long travel and so to get a high clamping force they need to be adjusted just right. Also you need to mount these in such a way that they can't be rotated with the handle in the closed position. Otherwise they can be un-threaded quite easily.
good quality easy installation. just remember put some oil when not in constance use
