Today on this 2014 Jeep Cherokee, we're going to install part number RM-1644 from RoadMaster. This is a RoadMaster 4-Wire Flexo-Coil Cord Kit with Mounting Bracket. On our Cherokee here, we already have a vehicle that's been previously wired with a 4 pole flat. We're going to upgrade to our new connectors with our new kit. We need to get our vehicle ready. To do that, we'll go ahead and loosen up the wires so we can work with them, and we need to remove our 4 pole.
I like having extra in there, so I'm going to cut it off really short, though eventually you'll probably have to change out the connector over time. Next we'll go ahead and strip our wires back, about 1/4" will be enough. We've got our wires ready, let's just go ahead and put them off to the side for now, and we'll go ahead and mount our bracket for our new connector. In this case, we're actually going to mount it to the bottom of our license plate bracket. It's nice and sturdy, shouldn't go anywhere. There's easy access to it when you want to tow it behind your RV.
At this point it's personal preference. I'm going to run it over to the one side of the plate, even up the back edge and then just mark my holes fro drilling. We'll go ahead and drill out our hole to 1/4". We'll use the fasteners that come with the kit to attach it, which will be a small Phillip's head screw and a lock nut. Got one done, we'll do the other side. We'll go ahead and tighten it down with a #2 Phillip's head screwdriver and a 3/8 wrench.
Let's go ahead and take our wire, we'll run it through our bracket we just installed. Now we'll go ahead and take our connector apart so we can attach our wires. Using a very small screwdriver, we'll go ahead and take out the set screw and we'll open up the lid here, and from the back side push it out. Let's take this part and put it on our wires first. Now on the connector we'll go ahead and take our sleeve, pull it off and slide it under the wires too.
We'll push that up in there and use the lid to help hold it in place. Now we can go ahead and start connecting our wires. Now the part on the inside that we connect our wires to, we need to know which is top. We know where the top is by where the set screw goes, so this will be our reference. We'll use the guide that comes with the packaging to help tell us which wire goes where, and this diagram is looking at our connector just like this. We'll go ahead and do this in numerical order. Number one will be our left turn signal, so our left turn signal is going to be yellow from our tow package kit. We'll go ahead and undo the set screw, slide it in place, and then tighten down the set screw. Number two will be this pin right here, so that will be ground. That's white on our towing package. Number three will be our right turn, which will be our green wire. Our last one is going to be our running light circuit, which will be a brown wire. Let's go ahead and put it back together now. We'll take our sleeve, run it over our connection points. To install it, we're actually going to take the end of our Flexo-Coil, line up the 2 set screws, and use it to push it into place. Then it lines up our hole, we can go ahead and reinstall the set screw. We also found out that a #1 screwdriver works best with these screws. Let's go ahead and take the cord out. We'll go ahead an add some electrical tape to help protect it from water. We'll fix our loom material that's on there, and then let's go ahead and mount it to our bracket. Now the kit doesn't come with the hardware to attach it to our bracket. It might be a good idea to go to your local hardware store and find some nuts and bolts that will work with this connector before you install it. We're just using some simple panhead screws that use a flat screwdriver. This bolt will line up with this groove right here, since this bracket will accommodate different sizes of connectors. We'll add a small lock washer and then the nut. All right, we have our connector ready, so basically to use it, we would just plug in our Felxo-Coil cable. This tab will go into the lid right here, that little notch to make sure you got it in all the way. Here's the rest of our cable which will plug into your RV. That'll finish it for our install of part number RM-1644 from RoadMaster, the 4-Wire Flexo-Coil Cord Kit with Mounting Bracket on our 2014 Jeep Cherokee. .

Works great with the extra length. I have an extended hitch length due to towing a small car and therefore had to add a 4 inch drop which added extra hitch length. My precious umbilical cord got damaged by being to short and pulling out.

The Flexo-Coil kit arrived sooner than I had expected and was exactly what I needed to complete the towing setup for my car behind the motorhome. It works perfectly and now allows me to charge the car battery while towing.

Was surprised to receive the product so quickly--about 4 days. The wire was top quality, but much cheaper than I could buy from any RV dealer which I contacted; shipping was more economical than I had expected. This was my second order from you, and I was pleased with both,

I have used RM products for years, and never been disappointed. This cable will replace a 20 yr old one that has been damaged and worn. Have not used new one yet. Expect it will be excellent.

Very well made, complete kit with a good quality socket for each end. I found the cable a bit short, although the coiled section allows the wire to stretch, the coiling is very strong and resulted in the plugs being pulled out of the sockets unless I strapped the sprung loaded lid to the plug.
