Video Transcript for Roadmaster Dual Hitch Receiver Adapter Review

Speaker 1: Today we're going to be taking a look at the Roadmaster line of dual hitch receiver adapters. Most motor homes are going to have a hitch on the back, and it's going to come in handy whenever we've got to flat tow our vehicle. But another problem arises. Once we hook it up and we have our tow bar in place, where are we going to put our bikes We don't want to take up any more room than we have to on the inside, and putting a bike inside our vehicle can be a problem, as well. That's where our Roadmaster Dual Hitch Adapter's going to come into play. Now, this can be either in the rise or drop position.

Our Roadmaster series of dual hitch adapters are going to fit into a 2" by 2" receiver tube opening, so they'll fit your RVs that have a 2" hitch on it. And they're also going to provide us with two more receiver tube openings, that way we can carry a bike rack or a cargo carrier while flat towing our vehicle. Each one in the line is going to have a 400 lbs tongue weight, along with a 10,000 lbs gross trailer weight rating. So we did put our hitch adapter in the rise position, so we put that 4" on top, but since it does provide us with that 2" rise or drop on the other side, it dropped it down 2", which made it almost perfectly level. Making sure your flat tow set up is nice and level is always important because we don't want any extra stress, either on our front suspension of our car or pulling down on the hitch on our motor home, that way we have a nice even pulling weight when we're going down the road. Now, each one of our Roadmaster dual hitch adapters is going to provide you with a 2" drop or rise on one end, and on the other end it will have varying height differences, depending on which one you pick up.

There's going to be several different sizes available: 2-1/4" rise or drop, a 4" rise or drop, there's going to be a 6" rise and drop, and also an 8" rise or drop. So we'll go ahead and show you how to measure for the appropriate rise or drop for your flat tow set up.Most tow bar manufacturers are going to want no more than a 3" difference between the connection point of the motor home and the connection point of the car, so you want to try to get it as level as you can. The way we're going to measure, is you want to make sure that your motor home is on nice, flat, level ground, and that if you do have air suspension, make sure it's aired up at the traveling height. Then we're going to take a tape measurer, and we're going to measure from the ground just right to the inside top edge of the receiver tube opening, and in our case, it's just a little bit over 22-1/2". Now we can move over to the car side. Now again, on the car, you want to make sure that it's on nice, level ground, and we'll go ahead and park it.

This time we're going to be measuring right to the center of where our tow bar is going to attach at. So here you can see it's just under about 19-1/2", so we're right at that 3" difference, maybe a tiny bit over. So in our case, since the car connection point is lower, we're going to need a drop, but if yours was higher, you would get a rise. So there is that 3" difference there, so we're going to need anywhere up to a 3" drop to make it nice and level. And in our case, we're going to put it in the rise position, so we can just slide the shank into the receiver tube and line up the pin holes. Now, our dual hitch adapter does not come with a hitch pin, but you can pick those up here at etrailer.com, as well as any locks if you'd like to purchase those.

It is going to accept a standard 5/8" pin and clip, so we can just put it in and much sure everything's secure, and then we can load our bikes up. So now that we have our bikes hooked up, we have a spot down here below that we can hook our tow bar up to, so we'll go ahead and do that now as well.So as you can see, we have our bikes loaded up, as well as the tow bar being hooked up to our car, that way we can take our bikes with us and we can hit the road and start our adventure. And that'll finish up your look at the Roadmaster line of dual hitch receiver adapters.

Roadmaster Dual Hitch Receiver Adapter, 4" Drop/Rise - RM-077-4

Add a bike carrier or cargo carrier with the dual hitch receiver.

Received my 4 inch hitch adapter almost two weeks ago. Finally had the time to install and test it on my RV. The adapter fits great and the welds look very well done. The 4 inch drop along with my blue ox’s 4 inch drop are the perfect combination for my tow package. I plan to add a new bicycle carrier in the near future and this adapter was chosen with that in mind. 605633

Our new double 10000lbs rating receiver is perfect on our class a. Now can 4wheel down tow our Honda crv and put our bike carrier on the same receiver with plenty of clearance for the sharpest of turns. Very well made nice piece of equipment. Great service and with pin purchase and receiver, free shipping. 599827

Received the product and was not really happy with it. Was only able to get my blue ox tow bar in there with great difficulty by using a lot of lube and a hammer. When I tested it it was a bit to low (was using the 2" drop for the blue ox and wanted to use the 4" raise for my bikes) Getting it out was even more difficult and the only way to do was by connecting the car to the towbar and pulling it out. The fit in my RV was quite loose with a lot of wiggle room. Need to use some stems to fit it right. Not using the product and not happy with the service since I wrote about the problems but never got any answers. 426607

I bought 4"/2" drop/rise receiver adapter( RM-077-4) and 2 stainless steel locking hitch pins. I needed the 4" drop to line up our "toad" behind our motor home. This device with the 2" rise solved the problem of, "Where do I hang the bike rack?" and saved me from having to install a hitch on the towed vehicle for that purpose. The adapter and pins were shipped for free and we saved considerably over what we would pay at a nearby major RV retail store. The quality of the locking pins speak for themselves in one word "STAINLESS". I wish they offered a similar quality pin in a side locking model instead of the end locking style. I would definitely replace the so called chrome one I have for the receiver on the coach. 148667

Wanted to be able to combine tow hitch and bike hitch. This required a 2" drop and a 4" rise with a 10K lb capability. Etrailer.com came thru with product, price, special free shipping, and great customer service. Ordered on Sun and received on Wed and installed on Thur and ready to go! 123010

Excellent service from etrailer.com ! I just recieved the Roadmaster drop/rise bar & Roadmaster Quiet Hitch items. Very well packaged, and delivered in a timely fashion. I'll be installing the items on the motorcoach this week. Top quality items at great prices, and excellent service. I'll try to post a pic of everything that I purchased, in use, in the near future. The etrailer.com videos are very helpful, as well as the answers to their FAQs. Tom from Bossier City, La. 101315

Been tested for over 5,000 miles and holds up great! It's rated for 10,000 pounds and I pull at most 5,000 pound fully loaded Jeep so I should never have a problem with this. I can also use the second hitch for a light cargo box since the 2 door Jeep does not allow for all my storage needs. 735912

Yes, you could use the dual receiver # RM-077-4 to flat tow your 2017 Jeep Wrangler and carry a small motorcycle at the same time provided that the combined tongue weight of everything in the adapter does not exceed its 400 pound tongue weight capacity. Like you said the Jeep will produce almost no tongue weight because it is basically supporting itself. I attached a picture that shows the height difference range that's acceptable for a tow bar. Basically it needs to be between 3 inches above or below level and you're good. For a very similar product to the Roadmaster Dual Hitch Receiver Adapter # RM-077-4 you referenced, but that features the kind of rise you are needing, I recommend the MaxxTow Dual Hitch Extender # MT70070. This extender will provide you with two 2 inch receiver openings, with the top one offering a 6-1/4 inch rise. It has a distance of 12 inches from the center of the shank hitch pin hole to the center of the receiver hitch pin hole. It does have a 4,000 pounds weight capacity, which is...

Measure from your hitch pin hole back 5-1/2-inches; then from this point measure upward 2-1/2-inches. The RM-077-4 is not for use with any type of trailer - tow bars only. You could use this to carry a bike rack and tow a vehicle behind a motorhome.
