Video Transcript for Rhino-Rack J-Style Kayak Carriers Crossbar Adapters Review

Hey, everybody, welcome to etrailer.com. I'm Bobby and today we're gonna be going over the Rhino-Rack Crossbar-adaptor kits for Rhino-Rack's J-style Kayak Carriers. So this is gonna work on the S510s, S511s and the S512. So, all those J-Style Kayak Carriers are an excellent pick for anybody looking at your kayaks out there. And what I really like about these guys, you can see here I already have the kit installed. Now I do have it here on the Rhino-Rack Vortex Aero Bars, and I am utilizing that C-channel slot.

As you can see, that gets it up here, and I don't have to worry about my clamping system. I think it looks a lot better, especially if you're comparing it to, you know, your factory style which is just a clamp on. However, I think the big advantage that you're getting for this is actually the security with it. If anybody wanted to, they can walk right up, undo these, and take my really nice carrier here. And I do like the Rhino-Rack Carrier.

I don't want anybody walking off with it. So, I've simply got it here, and as you can see, I've locked my end cap. Now, these are just the plastic cores. You can upgrade this as well to some metal locking cores, also available here at etrailer.com from Rhino-Rack. And that's really gonna kind of double your security which can be great.

You know, honestly, we're just trying to keep honest people honest, and this is a really easy way to do that. So I think the security is huge. And again, I really do like how it looks on here. There's no big clamps we have to worry about. And another advantage that we're getting, if we take a look at here, you can see I actually have my kayak set a little bit more towards my tower here.

With the clamping style, I have to worry about my raised rails, I have to worry about my tower set up, all that, not anymore. As long as I actually have that channel to work with, I can get up on top. Now, there are gonna be a variety of different ways of mounting it here. For your Aero Bars, all the other carrier options that we have, or the crossbar options. And what's great, instructions make it really easy to swap those out. And it's really simple as just two different size plates that we're working with. So I do like how that works. And honestly, I just love that I have the ability of putting this wherever I want on my crossbars, especially for something like a J-Style Kayak Carrier that makes it really easy to get this here on the side of my vehicle. And maybe you're not liking it right here, too much extended, becomes a great kinda like Goldilocks scenario where I can get it behind that tower. Now it's not exceeding too far over my car, but it's also right here, making it easier to get my kayak on my carrier. Now, one thing I really like about it as well is it's pretty easy to actually get installed. Now, today, we are just gonna be showing you here on the Rhino-Rack Vortex Aero Bars. So a lot of your Aero Bars are gonna be the exact same way what we're gonna show you. If you do have the other bars you're trying to get adapted, no worries, it is gonna be pretty much the exact same system. All you're doing is really changing out which plate you use. On some of the other bars you're gonna be using these small guys and splitting them up. Otherwise, you're probably gonna be following the exact same instructions we're gonna show you. Well, why don't we go ahead and see how we get it on our crossbars. Now to begin our installation, what we will need to do is actually start by removing our rubber plate here. To do that, we have two little tabs. I suggest removing one. You can see I've already kind of messed with this guy a little bit, and you can kind of stretch out this little tab. One thing I would suggest as well is grabbing yourself like something like a Flathead screwdriver. On the inside of here, more towards the outside of your structure, there is just little ledge there on the tab, and we're gonna get a closer look at that as I remove it. It can be a little helpful to try to wedge that a little bit. That way, becomes just a little easier to get out. But now we need to actually remove our longer bolts. You can see I've already removed my other one. And this is actually what's fixing our structure here to our entire carrier. So we do you need to re-add these guys in, but what it does, is make sure we don't have any protrusion here that's gonna prevent us from actually mounting it how we want. We need to take our included tool here, and lefty Lucy, just start taking it out. So here I have our factory bolt that we've removed, we are gonna need the 40 millimeter bolt. In your kit, you are gonna have a smaller one, we're gonna need that later on. So we're gonna take our 40 millimeter here, start setting in our old washers. Spring first, curve flat one second. And now, we just reinsert this. Now, if you've tightened this one down too much on the other side, you might have a little bit of weird fitment. You can see right here, my bar is moving a little bit. And what you wanna do, is look straight into that hole. Make sure you're aligning that up still. Once you get to the catch, of course, just use your included tool to tighten it all the way up. With those installed, all we need to do is bring back our rubber, and place it. Now we need to take our 32 millimeter bolts here, take our spring washer first, of course, and then a flat washer. And we need to place them right here in both of our middle segment. So, that just slots in just like that. It's ready to go. Of course, let's get that other bolt in, but then we need to bring ourselves to our crossbars on our vehicle, to start getting our C-channels in place. All I gotta do, open up that end cap, pop it off. Now for these guys, I am gonna have to take out my top stripping here just a little bit, to actually give me room to start getting these in place. And that's gonna be one more step later on, is actually cutting your strips to length here, right If you do have the removable stripping here like on the Vortex Aero Bars, you are gonna have to remove that, but then we need to take our little plate here, and just slot this in right there into that C-channel, and tap it in. At this point too, you could get it to wherever you want it on the bar. I myself, I'm just gonna place it right here for now, to maybe make it a little easier to actually start getting it to fit. Now let's grab our carrier, see if we can get it in place. You can see where our bolt wants to align here in our plate. All you gotta do walk that up, it's really helpful to have it here in the end. And then we simply take our included tool one more time, insert that, and start tightening here. I think the biggest thing with this install is getting to get that rubber cap off, but just like that, now we're utilizing that C-channel. It is nice insecure. We can tighten it down just a little bit more, but again, don't have to go too crazy. We can always page through some of those instructions to make sure we tightening it down at the necessary torque that we need. But again, right here, ready to rock and roll. It is solid, and I love how that works. Overall, I really, really do like how this system works. I love the ability of putting this over my towers, wherever I want to. The security that we're adding on here, of course, make sure you have your end caps on. Is gonna be great. Again, those locking cores available from Rhino-Rack here at etrailer.com. Can be a great way of adding just a little bit more security. And honestly, I think that's the biggest failing of the Rhino-Rack J-Style Carrier. So I love that this is actually accounting for that, and giving us a way of adding some security, which is great. So, overall, just a great little system guys to start utilizing this, not having to worry about that clamp, and therefore securing your J-Style Kayak Carrier to your vehicle. But otherwise I think that about does it for our look here today at the Rhino-Rack Crossbar Adapters for the Rhino-Rack J-Style Kayak Carriers. Once again, I'm Bobby. Thanks for watching..

This fit kit includes bolts, washers and channel nuts that allow you to mount a Rhino-Rack fixed (S510) or folding (S511 or S512) J-style kayak carrier to your roof rack crossbars.

One package appears to have 8 32mm bolts, which is lucky, because I needed all 8 40mm from the correctly fulfilled kit.

I’ve mounted two S510 sets and now have the 8 bolts frame the original universal mount that the S510s came with and 4 32mm bolts.

Extremely easy to install. Cheap price for the piece of mind, knowing your carrier will be there when you return.

Just picked these up today, and within two hours they were installed on my 2018 CRV. (Includes unboxing, reviewing instructions, getting distracted by a podcast, and making a new pot of coffee). I’ve been using my folding Rhino Racks all summer, and while I live in a pretty good community of like-minded water sports hungry folks, I always felt a little nervous leaving my car parked with my unsecured racks sitting atop my car. It was a sigh of relief to get back and find no one had helped themself to them. No longer will I fear that! Along with the locking end caps for my bars, I now feel super-duper confident my racks will remain untouched. They also look great now, and more streamlined, without the big knobs underneath. (Check our my before and after photos) Definitely recommend these! And, etrailer is the best; my order was delayed, but George personally kept me afloat (haha) without me even asking about it. Thank you!

All the parts I needed and the installation went quickly!

by:

These Kayak racks are very ridged and tough. They exceed my expectations, although, I have noticed small cracks in the plastic paddle holder keepers. I'm not sure how long before they crack all the way through and the part fails.

by:

Exactly what I needed to get the Rhino Rack kayak holders onto the Rhino Rack SG59 Vortex roof rack.

by:

I purchased Rhino j racks. The quality is great but I was disappointed there wasn’t a lock offered.

This kit answered the lock issue and it looks clean without the long screws and knobs protruding from the underside of the j racks.

This installed in minutes and saves so much trouble when loading a kayak! Very happy with the purchase. 10/10 recommend.

by:

We bought bars, J style kayak carriers and adaptors for our 2017 Ford Focus hatchback. Install was pretty easy. Looks nice and is very solid on the roof. We have two 10 foot kayaks which went up fairly easy on the roof. We have used several times and are very happy with product.

by:

I have no complaints about this product. I locked my kayak racks on and left them on all summer and didn't have to worry about them getting stolen. Great customer service too!

by:

Excellent product instal was a breeze, excellent price, excellent service and fast delivery!
