Video Transcript for Reese Weight Distribution 58392 Review

Today we're going to be taking a look at the Replacement Heavy Duty Snap-Up Bracket for Reese Weight Distribution Systems. This snap-up bracket mounts on the trailer tongue and provides the attachment point for your weight distribution and spring bars that use chains. This creates necessary tension on the spring bars. The replacement unit is designed for use with Reese Weight Distribution Systems that use similar style lift brackets. It does come with a set screw, which bolts the bracket to your trailer frame. That bolt is going to give us a measurement of around 3 1/2 inches from the bottom of the bolt head to the head of the threaded portion.

Then it's also going to come with a new safety pin that locks the bracket in the raised position. Now the bracket itself is made from a steel construction. It's very strong and durable. It's going to have a black powder coated finish, which is going to do a great job at resisting rust and corrosion. One snap-up bracket assembly is included. This bracket features the welded on reinforcement.

That's these raised areas right here. It's got these welded on reinforcements, which makes it a heavy duty bracket making it great for heavier trailers. This is a replacement part for Reese Weight Distribution Systems that have a gross trailer weight rating of 15,000 pounds and 17,000 pounds. We know that this is a very strong and durable heavy duty snap-up bracket. Simply installs approximately 30 inches back from the coupler. It is going to require about 5 1/2 inches of space along the trailer frame.

Measuring right there is where we get that measurement from. It will not fit trailer frames wider than 2 1/2 inches. That's simply, the opening here needs a little bit of space left for the screw, or the bolt, to actually get in there and get some threads through. 2 1/2 inches is the trailer frame width. With that removed, you can see that we can lower this, connect the chains, raise it up to apply the tension, and this goes through those holes to secure it in that up position.

That's going to do it for today's look at the Replacement Heavy Duty Snap-Up Bracket for Reese Weight Distribution Systems.

I purchased these brackets to replace the bent bracket I found upon arrival at the campground. This bracket is reinforced to keep it from bending with my #1200 bars. Shipping was fast. The only problem was the threads had to have the power coating cleaned out to run the bolt in. After returning home from our camping trip, no bent brackets. These are how all the brackets should be made. 155734

Disappointed in the Reese product. The two issues are as follows. First when hooking the chain from the bars and pulling them up tight the hook part doesn't seem to go over center and stay on its own. I actually had one of the chains snap back down before I put the locking pin in. Nearly caught my head. Every other chain device I have used (been several over the last 40 years of trailering) has always gone what I would call over center so it stayed put safely. I won't release pressure on the pipe handle I use to pull the saddle up until I have the safety pin in place. (should not have to do that) I hope this doesn't prove to be a problem while towing. Second, the rivet that holds the lifting part to the piece attached to the trailer tongue doesn't seem to be heavy enough. With the part new there is play and the rivet seems a little loose. Not near as good or heavy as what I have used in the past. If I had a way to talk to the engineer that designed this I would sure give him my 2 cents worth. 280630

The original one bent due to me not mounting it with the self threading screw. I used the screws on both sides now and it only added about 10 minutes per side mounting time. When I ordered this I mentioned I was in a campground and couldn’t leave without it. Had it the next day!! 680091

The product is an exact fit. I wasn’t sure if it was going to work with my propane cover due to the gussits sticking up from them but they work perfectly. So far so good. 667973

Bought 2 of these to tow my cargo trailer behind our motorhome on a recent 1000+ mile vacation trip. Installation was easy, no paint in the threaded section where the clamping bolt threads in. These snap-up clamps worked flawlessly and did not bend, stretch or loosen under load. 504629

Noah at etrailer.com confirmed that my old Reese snap up brackets 21500 were compatible with the 53892 Resse Heavy Duty Snap-Up Bracket. Installed and everything was fine. Easy transaction and parts showed up sooner than Noah suggested. Thanks for helping me out. 504150

Replacing current Reese snap up brackets ( had one bend last camping season) with the Reese Heavy Duty brackets. After looking over the Reese Heavy Duty Brackets, I noticed the the threads have been cleaned of powder coating, safety pins and locking bolt were included. With the added reinforcement these should not bend like the previous brackets. Free shipping a plus. 498303

Old snap-up bracket were lost in a camper trade so we order these. They are heavy duty and fit like originals. Only one small issue. Bolt thread on one bracket was filled with paint and had to run a 1/2 NC tap before use. Shipping and website were great... keith 495901

Product showed up on time but was missing the adjusting/set bolt. Pretty sure it was missing because the part looked to be defective and potentially returned by another customer. The threads for the set bolt were stripped. Not just from the powder coating either but as a result of poor machining from the factory. I had to go to the hardware store, purchase a 1/2 inch tap, re-thread the hole and purchase the missing set bolt. Not a huge deal for somebody who is handy like I am but shouldn't be required.......and somebody owes me $1.02 for the new bolt. 483600

I have used the reese dual cam system for some time on an enclosed trailer. I recently added a travel trailer to the mix. I wanted to use the same system. I bought the chain holders. I went through 3 sets as they were bending and pulling the units off the trailer. I realized they were not the same quality and strength of og my old units. These units are very strong. 463706

The product works just fine, but couldn't use it out of box. I had to use a tap to clean threads for secure bolt, and some very sharp edges had to be filed down to avoid cutting my hands. 367847

These are the heavy duty snap brackets that are less prone to getting bent when torqued in tight turns. I recommend getting the self-tapping (but you must pre-drill!) bolt kit to secure them to your trailer for best performance (I've snapped the tension bolt in two before!) as you don't want to liberate your trunions while going down the highway! 345001

Is so much tougher and stronger looking than the old pair that I took off in which one was bent by the way. Fits like it is suppose too. 280296

by:

Exactly as ordered. Love the extra pieces welded on. Already mounted on my trailer and ready for our next camping trip. 277909

- 58392
by:

I read the reviews of the new bracket and decided to give it a try. ETrailer was very easy to work with and shipped the bracket very quickly. I have attached a photo that illustrates the old bracket next to the new one. The old bracket just could not handle the load of my trailer. When I got home from a trip, both brackets were barely on the trailer frame. I am looking forward to the control and strength of the new bracket when I take the camper out next. 273765

- 58392
by:

I am giving a top rating since these seem to be much sturdier than the regular ones which both bent beyond use. I think I will be much happier with these. 269083

I ORDERED THE HEAVY DUTY SNAP-UP BRACKET TO GO ON MY NEW RV AND 1 SET FOR MY OLD RV. THE BRACKETS ARRIVED QUICKLY AND IN EXCELLENT SHAPE. i HAVE USED BOTH TRAILERS IN THE LAST YEAR AND THE BRACKETS PERFORMED WITHOUT A PROBLEM. I WOULD HIGHLY RECOMMEND THE PRODUCT AND THE SERVICE I RECEIVED. 239411

Of the two I ordered one was heavy duty one was standard. Called and will receive the other heavy duty one next week. 224995

- 58392
by:

Solid pieces, should be stronger than the standard brackets I was using with my lighter spring bars. Only glitch was that the threads required chasing with a 1/2 - 13 tap due to paint in the threads and minor damage around the thread opening. felt like forcing the bolt through would have caused damage. 224990

- 58392
by:

Paint filled the tapped threads for the bolt. Pain in the rear to get paint out. They are built strong. 222014

- 58392
by:

The pictures shown shows the square mounting holes. I received my brackets with no mounting holes as was shown in the pictures. Now I have to try to drill holes in them that will mount in the same location that the old brackets were. With that said it appears that theses brackets are more heavy duty. 207523

We purchased a heavier travel trailer and needed to upgrade out proud trunion bars to 1200 lb (also from etrailer), our old snap up brackets but these HD seem to be what we really needed. If you upgrade your trunion bar capacity I strongly recommend also upgrading to HD snap brackets. etrailer has GREAT customer service. They even called the factory and shared additional helpful information after they had made the sale. I will look for other opportunities to buy from them. 149324

Do you have a question about this Accessories and Part?

  • Recommendation For Snap Up Replacement Brackets For Weight Distribution System
  • Snap up brackets are somewhat interchangeable within their family branding. For example, the current Replacement Lift Bracket, Item # RP21501, works with the Reese family of weight distribution systems which includes Reese, Draw-Tite, Hidden Hitch, or Pro Series. The difference between all the snap up brackets involves how heavy duty they are and what weight distribution systems they work with. The Curt Replacement Hook Up Brackets, Item # C17208, are designed for Curt weight distribution...

  • Replacement Lift Bracket for Reese Strait-Line Weight Distribution System
  • The Replacement Lift Brackets with Handle for Reese Weight Distribution Systems # RP6637 is what you want for your Reese Strait-Line dual cam # RP66084. This is the proper replacement for the tongue weight you are referring to. If you just want the single replacement # RP21501 which is rated for 600 lbs is what comes with the unit, so the # 58392 is a stronger bracket rated for 800 lb tongue weight. The head, cam arms, and brackets share the weight, so rest assured these are the proper...

  • Gap Between Frame and Bracket Utilizing Snap-Up Brackets
  • The Snap-Up brackets like # PS58362 and # 58392 are designed to have some space between the frame and the back side of the bracket. As long as the bolt is holding the frame and bracket tight, the system will work properly. This bracket is designed to be compatible with many frames so the gap is not at all uncommon. The top of the bracket should rest on the trailer frame where able and the Snap-Up Side should rest along the frame as well. As long as those two areas are tight to the...

  • Difference Between Weight Distribution Chain Lift Brackets # 586392 and # RP21501
  • Because your trailer is fairly heavy, I would recommend you go with 2 of the # 58392 lift brackets. The 58392 has extra gusseting welded to it for reinforcement, and would be better suited to a heavier trailer like yours, because the spring bars will be under greater tension than they would be for a lighter trailer. Part # RP6637 is a kit that includes two of the # RP21501 brackets and the lift handle. If you look at the photo I have edited for you, you can see the difference...

  • Solution for Reese SC Weight Distribution Trunnion Bar Needing Replacement
  • Thank you for all of the pictures. I do have a solution for you but when I reached out to my contact at Reese he said that you have the older SC weight distribution (WD) system and there aren't any replacement bars that will fit your application. The Pro Series trunnion bars, like part # 58346 you referenced, have a different attachment configuration which keeps them from being interchangeable with the Reese systems. • Weight Distribution Hanger Bracket and Set Screw are Bent
  • It looks like the set screw on your weight distribution system is bent along with the part of the snap-up bracket it goes through. This is normally an indication that the system was overloaded, the trailer requires a higher capacity system, or the system was jackknifed. I would need to know the tongue weight of the trailer when loaded and ready to tow plus the weight of anything loaded behind the rear axle of the tow vehicle. Also, I need to know the distance from the center of the...

  • Troubleshooting Bent Lift Brackets on a Reese Weight Distribution System
  • It sounds to me like you will need the Replacement Heavy Duty Snap-Up Bracket for Reese Weight Distribution Systems, # 58392, to keep from bending the tip up brackets with your trailer. When trailers get near the 1,000 pound tongue weight range the tip up brackets can be a bit weak for the weight of the trailer and the stiffness of the suspension on heavy duty trucks like your Ford F-250. I recommend replacing both brackets, as you will most likely bend the bracket on the right side...

  • The Reese Lift Bracket # RP21501 is rated for Reese weight distribution (WD) systems that have a tongue weight (TW) capacity, or rating, of up to 600 lbs. These are the brackets that would be used on a WD system like the Strait-Line # RP66082 which has a TW range of 200 lbs - 600 lbs. These are just hangers, not lift brackets, so you would need to use the trailer jack to get the required tension on the spring bars. This is the same bracket that comes with the # RP6637. The # RP21501 is for TW capacities up to 600 lbs. I believe the hooks are the same size, so the chains may not be correct on your system. If this is the case, I recommend the Reese Replacement Weight Distribution Chain Kit # 3216.
