Video Transcript for Redline Trailer Brakes BP04-095 Review

Today we're going to take a look at the 10 inch by 2 and a quarter inch electric brake shoe and lining for 3500 pound axles. This part is for 1 wheel. These trailer brake shoe pads are for electric trailer brakes. They are designed to fit most 3500 pound axles. They will fit the Dexter, the Fayette and the Foreman 10 inch by 2 and a quarter inch electric brakes. It does include the primary shoe, the secondary shoe, and it will include the 2 hold down springs with the pins. The primary shoe is usually the front shoe.

That will usually have the smaller pad on it when compared. You can see the secondary shoe will usually be the larger pad. You have to remember that when these are installed, the smaller, or the primary shoe will be to the front, will point towards the front of the trailer. You want to make sure when you assemble these that the smaller shoe goes in the front and the larger shoe will go on the rear. These parts are certified by US SAE standards and CSA standards, which are the Canadian standards. These are designed to be used with 10 inch drums.

When we do say 10 inch by 2 and a quarter, what we're basically saying is you can determine the size brake assembly you have by measuring it when it's all installed on your trailer. When these are all installed, if you measure the diameter from the pad to this pad, straight across, should measure 10 inches. Then the 2 and a quarter is the actual width of the brake shoe lining itself. So you see there 2 and a quarter. When these are installed, if you have this all installed on your trailer on the brake assembly, with them installed, if you measured across you'd know you need a 10 inch and if you measure the width it'd be 2 and a quarter inch. That should do it for the review of the 10 inch by 2 and a quarter inch electric brake shoe and lining for 3500 pound axles for one wheel.

These shoes did not have self adjusting studs on them so I had to install without self adjusting mechanisms. I will have to adjust them manually when they need adjusting. I realize I might have missed something when ordering but I did not see any other option. 676625

I'm in the middle right now because 2 of the shoes had a fair size piece of the braking pad portion break away from the rest. They were very fast to send replacements so I have nothing but praise for that. I have done business with these people before and have had very fine experiences. I suspect this was just a fluke thing. I will order from here in the future. 294649

  • Replacement Trailer Brake Components for Trailer with LCI 4,400 lb Axles
We do have the brake shoes compatible with your axle. They are 10" x 2-1/4" Electric Brake Shoe/Lining (One Wheel) # BP04-095. You may also want to consider replacing the entire assembly which would give you all new braking components. I recommend the Electric Trailer Brake Kit - Self-Adjusting - 10" - Left and Right Hand Assemblies - 3,500 lbs # AKEBRK-35-SA which will fit your 4,400 lb axles well and self-adjust to give you complete braking without manual adjustment as the shoes wear...

The 10" x 2-1/4" Electric Brake Shoe/Lining (One Wheel) # BP04-095 are the brake shoes for the Dexter electric brakes and they will fit the Axletek brand just fine. The # AKBRKR-S-10 are also a fit for your 4,400 lb axles.

  • How to Tell if a Trailer Has Nev-R-Adjust Brake Assemblies
I can tell you if you were to email me a picture of the brake assembly. A Nev-R-Adjust assembly, like # 23-459 for example, has a cable that goes across the brake assembly. A regular assembly like # 23-106 does not. I have included a picture showing the two types side by side.

  • Will 10 x 2-1/4 Inch Trailer Brake Shoe Pads Part BP04-095 Fit 10-Inch Nev-R Adjust Brake Assembly
Thanks for sending us a picture! The 10 x 2-1/4 inch trailer brake shoe pads part # BP04-095 you referenced only works with the manual adjust brake assembly. What you need is the left hand shoe lining # K71-681 and/or right hand shoe lining # K71-682 to fit the Dexter 10-inch Nev-R adjust brake assemblies. What I recommend instead of buying the replacement shoe liners, is replacing the entire brake assembly with part # 23-469 (right hand) or # 23-468 (left hand). The reason is because...

  • Replacement Trailer Brake Shoes/Lining for Dico 10 x 2-1/4 Hydraulic Trailer Brakes
Since you do not have free backing brakes you will need to use replacement shoe/lining # BP04-120. This is for one wheel. For a whole axle you will need to order 2. These parts will fit on Atwood, Bendix, Dexter, and Dico 10 X 2-1/4 hydraulic brakes.

  • Replacement Brake Assembly Recommendation for Dexter 23-479
The assembly you have is our part # K23-479-00. For shoes you'd want the part # K71-699-00. We don't have the magnets for those hubs though. But if the assembly is bad enough to need shoes and magnets you are better off just replacing the whole thing. The price is about the same and you'll end up with new everything and the install will be much easier.

  • Replacement Brake Shoes for Dexter 10 Inch Electric Trailer Brakes
A 23-26 is a Dexter 10x2-1/4 inch brake assembly. The replacement for that brake assembly, left side or right side, is # BP04-095. If your brakes are not 10 x 2-1/4 inches let me know what size they are by measuring the inner diameter and width of the drum.

  • How to Measure to Select the Correct Brake Shoes for a 6,000 lb Dexter Trailer Axle
You will need to measure to select the correct brake assemblies for your axles. You need to know that the brake assembly is compatible with the brake mounting flange and with the drum's diameter and depth. I added a photo showing how to measure a hub/drum for you, Typically 6,000 lb Dexter axles have a 5 bolt brake flange, like part # 4-44-1, and utilize 12 x 2 inch brake assemblies, like part # 23-106. The correct brake shoes for these assemblies are part # AKBRKR-S-12. If you...

  • Where to Find Axle Info on Trailer and Determine if Brakes are Manual or Self Adjust
There are a couple places you can check to find out the axle info you are looking for. If you check the plate up near the coupler of the trailer that has the VIN listed the axle brand/capacity would be listed there. Also it can be listed on a similar plate on the axle itself. To determine if the trailer has manual adjust brakes will require you to pull a hub off so that you can see what is there. If you look at the brake assembly with the hub off and see a metal cable going across it...

  • Brake Assembly Replacement for a 1991 Wilderness 24C RV Trailer
Thanks for sending in the picture of your brake assemblies. Based on that though the # BP04-095 isn't an exact match so I would not recommend it for you. They look like older Hayes brakes and Hayes has been bought out, so replacement parts will be hard to come by. The easiest and best solution would be to replace the entire assemblies. Since you have a 3,500 axle with a 10 inch assembly you would want the part # 23-468 for the left hand side and part # 23-469 for the right hand side....
