Video Transcript for Redline Trailer Brakes 6-17 Review

Today we're going to review part number 6-17. This is the mounting nut for the 7/16th size mounting bolt for seven and ten inch brake assemblies. Now this is a size 7/16ths by 20. That means the diameter of the bolt used on this is 7/16ths and the 20 means 20 threads per inch on the bolt. This nut is to be used with the .. we do sell that bolt separately.

It's part number 7-75. This is the 7/16ths brake mounting bolt that's used on the seven and ten inch brake assemblies. We do sell this separately. It is listed on the product page for the nut as a related product. Basically as you can see, that's designed to screw onto the bolt.

Another piece that you need to use with these pieces, we also sell separately and it's listed on the product page as a related product, is the lock washer for the 7/16ths bolt. That's part number 5-8. So basically, the lock washer would go on and then you use your nut. Just to give you an idea of the heads size on this nut, it does use a .. here's a 11/16ths socket and you can see that it's designed to fit in the 11/16ths socket and is used to tighten down or loosen this nut.

That should do it for the review on part number 6-17. This is the mounting nut for the 7/16ths bolt that fits the seven inch and ten inch brake assemblies.

A nut is a nut, however these are SAE fine thread and 4ea. will be necessary to mount the plate to the axle flange. Ask the Experts about this Redline Accessories and Parts
Do you have a question about this Accessories and Part?

  • Comparing Different Hydraulic Trailer Brakes for Boat Trailer
  • Essentially yes, all of them will work for your trailer assuming you have 3,500 pound axles and a 4 bolt mounting flange. However, there are some differences between the brake assemblies you mentioned. The # AKFBBRK-35 are free-backing brakes, meaning they will not engage when reversing with your trailer. If your trailer has a reverse lockout on it then this feature is not necessary. They're coated with an e-coat used for corrosion resistance. The Demco brakes # 40716-15 are galvanized...

  • Spring Seats and Nut Coupling Available Separately for Over-Under Conversion Kit
  • Hello! I am a bit confused by the question, but I believe you are saying you are going to be using the Dexter Trailer Springs Over-Under Conversion Kit # K71-384-00 on your trailer and want to know about the availability of spring seats and spacer nuts, correct? If so you do not need to purchase those separately because they come with the kit already. If you were asking about piecing together this kit, there are individual components available: - Spring Seat for Typical 3,500-lb,...

  • Does the Demco Hydraulic Drum Brake Assembly Come With the Drum?
  • I do have a solution for you but the answer to your question is no, the Demco Hydraulic Drum 3,500 lbs - 10" Brake Assembly # DMSB24429M is just the brake assembly without the drum. Keep in mind that when selecting a brake assembly and hubs that you make sure they will have the same weight capacity that your axle has. You will want to make sure that whichever brake assembly you choose that you get the Right Hand side as well, in this case it would be the Hydraulic Drum Brake part # DMSB24428M. I...

  • Replacement 10x2-1/4 Inch Electric Trailer Brakes
  • The mounting studs on trailer brake assembly # K23-478-00 are 7/16 inch requiring the 7/16 inch nut # 6-17. You would also want to use lock washer # 5-8. This is a standard size for 10x2-1/4 inch brakes. The outer diameter of the nuts is larger of course so it is not surprising that the wrench you used was larger.

  • The studs on the Dexter 7 inc brake assembly, part # 23-47, are 1-1/4 inch long with 7/16 - 20 threads. Brake Assembly mounting bolt, part # 7-75, is 1-1/4 inch long with 7/16 - 20 threads. The nuts, part # 6-17, are also 7/16 - 20. This size is pretty standardized as far as 7 inch and 10 inch brake assemblies.

  • Adding Electric Drum Brakes to a Scamp Camper Trailer
  • Setting up a trailer with electric drum brakes is going to be the easier and most cost effective way of adding brakes to your Scamp trailer. Since the trailer already has the mounting flanges that will limit the amount of parts and work that will need to be done. Starting with the hub and drum assemblies since your bearings are both L44649 and you have an EZ Lube style axle you would need # 8-257-5UC3-EZ with the 5 on 4-1/2 bolt pattern. They are designed for 2,000 pound axles but will...

  • The Hub and Drum assembly you referenced, part # 84546UC3 has the same casting number on it, so it is most likely the correct replacement for you. I would recommend looking at your existing bearings to confirm a match. If the existing bearings you have are # L68149 inner and # L44649 outer, these are the correct replacements. For electric brake assemblies, use # 23-26 for the left side, and # 23-27 for the right. The mounting nuts, # 6-17 and lock washers, # 5-8 are not included....

The only way to be sure is to check the bearing part numbers and seal part number, but with a 3,500 lbs Dexter axle that has brake mounting flanges you will most likely have the # L44649 Outer and # L68149 inner bearings and # 58846 seal. That is the standard dimension for 3,500 lb axles. If you are looking for hydraulic brake assemblies, I strongly recommend the 10 Inch Free-Backing Dacromet Brake Assemblies, # AKFBBRK-35L-D for the left hand and # AKFBBRK-35R-D for the right hand. The spindle and hub parts for this application are standard parts that are still used in production, so they should be around for a long time to come. I've linked you to an FAQ article that shows exactly what you'll need to add electric brakes to your pop-up camper.
