Ventilated Storage Area

Ventilated Storage area

The ventilated storage area inside your bumper allows you to keep those smelly sewer hoses and fittings hidden when not in use. The bumper's end plates have holes to circulate fresh air, so you don't have to worry about moisture build-up from your wet hose that can lead to mold. You can easily slide the plates up and down for easy hose access on either end of your RV bumper and lock them into place to secure your hose. This handy storage space also frees up valuable storage compartments around your RV to house other cargo.

Is Your RV Frame Shorter Than Your RV Body?

Extender Plates

If your frame is shorter than your RV's body, you will need Mount-n-Lock Addabumper extension plates (MO24VR - sold separately) to properly mount the Heavy-Haul'r RV replacement bumper. These durable, all-steel adapter plates install to the side of your frame using 6 heavy-duty bolts (some drilling required). Once installed, the plates will extend out past the body of your RV, allowing easy access to line up and bolt the Heavy-Haul'r mounting bracket assemblies to the adapter plates. These won't be necessary if your frame already extends past your RV's body.

Does Your RV Body Extend to the Bottom of Your RV frame?

Extender Brackets

If your RV's body extends to the bottom of your frame, you will need Mount-n-Lock Addabumper drop plates (MO84VR - sold separately) to properly mount the Heavy-Haul'r RV replacement bumper. These durable, all-steel adapter plates are constructed with a unique drop plate that extends below and past your RV body, giving you the access needed to mount your RV bumper. They install to the side of your frame using 8 heavy-duty bolts (some drilling required). Once installed, the plates allow easy access to line up and bolt the Heavy-Haul'r mounting bracket assemblies to the drop plates. These won't be necessary if your RV's body does not extend to the bottom of your frame.

Video Transcript for Mount-n-Lock RV Bumper Replacement Kit Review

Zach: Hey guys, Zach here at etrailer.com. Now we get to see a lot of campers that come through here. We get hands on with them, and we've noticed that a lot of people want to carry heavy stuff on the back of their camper, like this generator here. But a problem we see is some of those factory style bumpers are usually bent up. They're not really intended to carry that amount of weight, or they just don't have a bumper at all. Now you can see we've got a decent amount of weight sitting on this bumper here with this generator.

Not everybody has the ability to add onto their bumpers and heavily modify it with welding, and that's why Mount-n-Lock came out with the Heavy Hauler. The Heavy Hauler is going to be an aluminum aftermarket bumper. It has two different versions and that's going to be the four inch by four inch sitting up front, and that's a 500 foot pound capacity, and the six inch by six inch, and that's going to have a 600 foot pound capacity. And what I like most about it, is it gives you that higher capacity to carry heavier stuff like generators, fully loaded bike racks, but we don't have to weld this on. We will have to mount it to the frame of our camper, will take a little bit of drilling, but that's way easier to do than trying to do some welding. I also like that, even though it gives you a high capacity, these aren't going to add a ton of weight to the back of your camper.

This one's got a pretty large footprint and it's significantly more heavy than the four inch version, but it is going to give us a really nice, solid way to carry a lot of heavy stuff on the back of our camper. It's going to have a smooth finish on it. It's going to be unfinished. You don't have to paint this with it being aluminum, it's going to hold up great against rust and corrosion. I also like that the interior still has its purpose of your original factory one, where you can put your sewer hoses down in there. Just slide these doors up and out of the way, it's got a little screw there to keep it from falling out so you can get your sewer hoses in there.

And then as you close those down, you can see it still has those holes in it, so you can allow some air flow in there to kind of get the moisture dried up that might be in your hose, or if any gets into the inside of your bumper. Now, a couple of people did comment that their hoses had a tough time sitting in there. So I'm going to give you some measurements to give you a better idea as to what you're going to be able to fit in there. The six inch bumper is going to have an opening of five and three quarters of an inch on each side. If you look up here where this screw holds this plate from going out, you do lose a little bit up in the corner, but you can kind of rotate it to get some more opening there. I think most are going to fit in there.

I don't think you're going to have much of an issue unless you have one of those really big bayonet style ones. And the four inch version is going to have an opening of four and 13 16ths of an inch. And it's the same thing over here, and you just need to rotate that plate if it's getting in the way of any interference, and then we can just get it closed down. But I think for the most part, you're going to be all right in getting most hoses in there, unless you have one of those that has like a really big bayonet on it, and then you may have some issues getting it in there. Regardless if you choose the four inch or the six inch version, they're going to be 94 inches in length. And when it comes to usable space on the inside, you're going to lose about three quarters of an inch due to where that plate sits. There's a little bit of space there. So you're going to have about 92 and a half inches of usable space on both versions on the inside of the bumper. So when it comes to putting these on your camper, a lot of people say the most difficult thing is taking the old bumper off. That's usually welded on. You're going to probably have to take a grinder to it.But if that's the most challenging part, I think you're going to be okay. Each one, the four inch and the six inch version are going to have two different style plates. So you can see there's a pretty significant size difference there, but basically what they do is they wrap around the bumper, and this part right here is going to mount on the frame. So let's take a look at this frame on this camper and we can show you how that would line up. It's important to understand the setup of your camper. So this one here today, this is a decent example of showing you this little sub frame here, and this is where these plates would mount. So if we had a smaller, maybe an older factory bumper, we could take that off, and then we would Mount these onto that frame there. And several of these, it comes with multiple of these to help you get that bumper installed. But essentially it would just kind of be something like this. If you don't have this style frame, because you can see this sub frame is attached to the campers frame. Like if you're putting this on as a brand new bumper, and then you can pick up the added bumper kits and there's a couple options there, there's one that's going to be like this, where it essentially you create your own, and you would attach it to that I-beam channel right there, and then you could attach these brackets like that. But then they also have a flat plate version, and a lot of this is going to depend on the style of camper you have, clearance, if you have any items that might be in the way, but then there's going to be another one that's going to be like this. You can see that wouldn't work here with this style where that body of the camper meets. So you can see here, I have these clamps, all loosely installed. It's not going to come with this green wire that I have here, but they do suggest that you put a little piece of wire in there to hold it in place. I just use some spare electrical wire I had around the shop, but essentially what happens is, this is going to wrap around our bumper, and then once you get that in it's set place, you can squeeze this together and that's where you would mount it to the frame like we we're just showing you, and you'd run that hardware through and then you'd have it tightened down. And it clamps that bumper to this bracket, which is then secured to the frame of your trailer. And that's what's going to give you that higher strength versus that smaller well that those factory bumpers have. And then once you have that installed and that's tightened down all the way, you can remove that wire.It serves no purpose after that. It's just to help with the installation and that's going to hold itself in place. And then once those are all in place, that's going to be really nice, tight fit, giving you that high capacity. Well, with that clamp, it's going to be the same way on the other side. And it's going to be the same style on the six inch. It's just going to be that larger clamp. But overall with that installation, I think that maybe having some clamps to hold stuff in place, or a friend to help you out is going to be a nice thing to have too. But the most difficult part is going to be drilling into the frame. So make sure you have some good drill bits for that. I don't know how to weld. So I like this way better. I don't want to have to take my camper into a shop to get it done. This is just a way that I could knock it out on an afternoon. And then I have that high capacity bumper compared to my old factory style. If you're looking for something that's heavy duty, you want to carry some stuff. And Mount-n-Lock has some really nice accessories for that. They have a line of trays called the Jenny go. We have two on this one here today. They have a couple of different configurations. This is the standard steel. This has a capacity of 200 foot pounds. And I have the heavy duty aluminum on this side. That's going to have a capacity of 250 pounds, but if you're really looking to maximize it, you can put these together, increase that weight capacity. They have one that's 400 pounds. So just whatever your needs are, they have a solution for you. And I think they're going to work out really great with these bumpers. Now when it comes to carrying heavy stuff on the back of your camper, there's a lot of leverage hanging off the back there if you have a lot of weight, and instead of throwing a bunch of numbers at you, I just want you to kind of keep it in mind. You should always go off the lowest weight of either your bumper or your trays, whatever the lowest number is, that should be your capacity and pound feet is essentially a way of thinking about it is the further you get out, the less you can carry. So it's all based off of 12 inches from the edge of your bumper on where your load is centered. The further you get out from your load being centered at 12 inches, the less you can carry. The closer you bring it in, or you get it closer to your bumper, the more you can carry, but definitely do not over exceed the lowest amount between your tray or your bumper. But overall, I think if you're looking to upgrade that old beat up bumper that you put too much weight on in the past, or you're just looking to get a bumper, I think Mount-n-Lock has done a nice job of giving you some products that you can put together, you can install it in your driveway or at home, and it's going to maximize that capacity, because at the end of the day, we all want to take a generator with us, or a cooler. We don't want that stuff in our vehicle, or if you want a bike rack on the back, we want to be able to carry that weight on our camper and feel confident that it's going to hold in place, and these bumpers are going to do a really good job of giving you that confidence.
