Video Transcript for Malone Bow and Stern Tie-Down Hood Loops Review

Speaker 1: Today we're going to be taking a look at the Malone hood loops for the bow and stern tie downs, part number MPG322. Once you have your kayak installed, and everything strapped down to your roof rack, the next step is to attach your bow and stern tie down. If you don't have a place underneath the vehicle to actually hook the bow and stern tie down to, that's where the Malone hood loop comes into play. The way the hood loop works, is it has an eyelet on the inside here that it's going to attach to a point underneath your hood, secure it down, close the hood on it, and now you have a loop that your hook can go through for your bow and stern tie down. This is ideal for vehicles with classic bumpers, with no metal underneath to hood onto. This comes in a quantity of two straps. Now, we've been over some of the features of these loops, let's go ahead and show you they install.

Our first step is to open up our hood, and find a suitable mounting point for our loops. We're gonna go ahead and use this mounting point here. So we'll loosen that up, place on our loop, and tighten down that bolt. Once it's tightened down, now we can close up our hood. Now we have our attachment point.

And now we can attach the hook of our bow and stern tie down, and make our connection.

Awful experience. Received partial order. Called support and was told they would expedite shipping the missing components. This evidently got lost in the shipping department and the remaining components were sent with a slow delivery. The only remedy offered was to ship back multiple pieces and parts from multiple shipments and pay extra for expedited shipping to get the rack on time due to their failure to ship correctly in the first place. Do not order from etrailer unless you are prepared for aggravation.

Just bought a set of racks to carry my kayak . Got a great set, easy to put together, simple install great price, quality parts, and they look awesome . Together with the Malone foam kayak blocks make hauling my kayak safe, secure, and easy to load unload.

These tie down straps worked great to secure our kayaks on the roof of our 2016 Toyota Tundra. Easy to use and very sturdy.

by:

Received them in a timely manner. THANKS! I have not installed them yet but the eyelets seem to be big enough to fit a fender bolt under the hood. The strap loop seems to be of good material. Thanks etrailer.com!

They screw in under the hood and hold on tight so you can tie your canoe to them. I've tried straps instead of rope and that cuts through.

by:

Excellent canoe carrier. Exactly as advertised. Works like a charm for my 16 ft canoe on top of my Prius!

by:

Super fast shipping! I have used this site multiple times now for accessories for my Toyota FJ Cruiser. Will for sure be back again - thank you!

  • Recommended Bow and Stern Tie-Downs to Keep Camera Views and Sensors Working As Designed
The etrailer J-Style Kayak Carrier - Folding - Universal Mount # e98878 is a great option and does take the camera interference out of the picture. Many vehicles will want to use this type of tie down because of that possibility especially if there are integrated speed sensors as well. With kayaks you will only have one tie down on your hood per kayak so it shouldn't interfere with anything at all. You won't use a V-style like the photo you sent with the canoe. I've attached a video...

  • Best Ways to Add a 2 Kayak Carrier to a 2017 Ford Escape Roof
Primarily, this depends on how you plan to carry the weight of the kayaks. The 2014 Ford Escape is rated for a maximum recommended load of 100lbs on the vehicle if it does not have a moon roof, and 40lbs if it does. This puts quite a cap on the amount of weight that the vehicle can carry, as this limit includes any carrier and crossbar solution that you are planning on using, plus the weight of the kayaks. You'll want to invest in a full roof rack system. Primarily, the ease of this...

  • What Kayak Carrier Do You Recommend for the Erickson Truck Bed Ladder Rack # EM07705?
We do carry compatible ladder rack/tonneau cover combinations for your 2006 Toyota Tundra (6-ft. double cab). For a tonneau cover that will leave your stake pockets open for a ladder rack, I recommend the BAKFlip G2 Hard Tonneau Cover # BAK26405. The G2 features a quad-fold design that allows for partial or full truck bed access in seconds without having to remove the cover. Another great feature about the G2 is that if the tailgate is closed, the cover cannot be opened. This creates theft...

  • What Options do You Have for More Support for a Canoe Mounted on an Adarac Rack on a 2013 Silverado?
I have a solution for you. Unfortunately, there is not an extension of the Adarac ladder rack # A70510 available. As far as having additional support of the bow of the canoe on your 2013 Silverado's cab, I recommend the Malone Foam Block for Canoes - 6" Long - Qty 1 # MPG160. The Foam Block will serve as a point to mount the bow down to the roof of your cab to make sure the kayak doesn't bump it during transport. In addition to the foam pad, you will need the Malone Hood Loops for Bow and...

  • How to Protect Load Bars of TracRac Ladder Rack When Sliding Boat onto Them
We have a foam block style of boat carrier that has a large enough hole for the thicker TracRac bars with the part # MPG159. This would be our best solution to protect the finish of your bars as well as securely carry your boat. See attached picture to see the pads used on a TracRac ladder rack. For straps then you'd want the part # MPG306 and part # MPG322 if you wanted to run the straps to under the hood of your truck as an attachment point.

  • Best Way To Haul A Kayak On A 2017 Chevrolet Cruze 5-Door
I do have an option that will allow you to carry a kayak on the roof of your 2017 Chevrolet Cruze 5-door, however, as the 5-door models of the Chevrolet Cruze have only been out for a limited amount of time, none of our manufacturers have designed a roof rack confirmed to fit your vehicle yet. Therefore, in order to haul a kayak on the roof of your car, I recommend using the Malone Kayak Carrier with Tie-Downs part # MPG154 as this is the only option there is at this moment to my knowledge....
