Today we're going to be taking a look at the Malone ratchet style tie downs. Now these safety tie downs are ideal for securing the bow and stern of your kayak or canoe to your vehicle. It's going to come with two durable ropes. It's going to come with your steel hooks, you're also going to get your ratchet mechanisms with steel hooks, and you're going to get two attachment loops. The ratchet style pulleys quickly and easily allow you to secure the rope, so the rope feeds through there and then you pull the bare end to ratchet it down. Then you can see that when you pull the other end of the rope, it does not allow it to re-spool the other direction, so it maintains tension, it maintains the tightness and it's just a nice, secure design. When you're ready to release tension, pull down on this lever, pull up on the lever, and then you can release tension as needed.
Nice, easy to use design. Again, these are going to allow you to quickly and easily secure the rope, just pull the rope and the mechanism does the tightening for you. The steel hooks provide a secure connection to the tie down points. The rope itself measures 11' long and has a diameter of 1/4". Load capacity, if you actually look at the housing here of the pulley, it's going to say 150 pound max load. The product's made in the USA.
When you're ready to use the tie downs you'll begin by taking one end of the rope and securing it to a hook. The other end goes through a pulley system and feeds off the bottom. It's going to come with these attachment loops here, so what you'll do is you'll take one of the two, and you'll place that to an anchor point or a secure point on the kayak or canoe, and that's going to create an attachment point for the hook. The other end is going to connect to the vehicle frame, a tow hook, a hitch or another secure anchor point on the vehicle and then once you have that done, just pull the free end of the rope to tighten it all the way down. Again, when you're ready to release you've got the lever here that you can push on to release the tension. That's going to do it for today's look at the Malone ratchet style tie downs.
