Video Transcript for Lets Go Aero 4 Bike Mount Kit Review

Today we're going to be taking a look at the Let's Go Aero four-bike mount kit for six foot cargo carriers, part number HCK956. This is also available for a one-bike mount kit, part number HCK925; or a two-bike mount kit, part number HCK932; or a three-bike mount kit, part number HCK949. These will work for all your six foot enclosed or open deer cage carriers. This Let's Go Aero four-bike mount kit allows us to carry up to four bikes on our open carrier or our enclosed carrier. The two seat-channel tracks, one for either side, provides great support for the brackets and the skewers as you can see here. The skewer itself is a 9 mm quick-release skewer. It's going to work with your standard mountain bike or road bike.

The seat channel simply bolts to the floor of our carrier, allowing the brackets to slide along freely on top. Now that we have gone over some of the features, let's go ahead and show you how to get it installed. First what we need to do is go ahead and mark out our placement for our two seat channels. We'll grab a few seat channels here. We'll go ahead and place them on either side.

You're going to need a tape measure. What you want to do is you want to measure 10 inches in. That'll be your placement for your seat channel. Go ahead and center it up here. Make sure it's 10 inches on both sides. You also want to make sure that it's equal on both sides this way as well.

Now we can go ahead and grab our marker and mark out the two holes. All right. Let's do that same thing on the other side. Okay, now with those marked out, we can go ahead and move those out of the way for now. Then we want to grab a drill, with your 17/64 drill bit, and drill those out.

Now with our holes drilled out, we can grab our seat channel and place it back in position. Then we want to grab two of our bolts, four of our bigger sized washers, two lock nuts, and then two lock washers. Then we'll go ahead and we'll take one of our bolts, put a lock washer on, followed by a big washer, and put that through the hole. Then we want to take a large washer, put that underneath, followed by a lock nut. All right, now we can just kind of hand-tighten it for now. Let's go ahead and put the other one in position and then tighten them down. Now real quick, you will notice that the hole in the seat channel is larger than the hole we have drilled out. This is actually to give you some fine-tune adjustment for your seat channel on your gear cage. Now, with both of those hand-tightened, we can go ahead and grab our wrench and tighten those down. You will need to hold the bottom nut in position while you tighten down the top. As you can see, I'm using a socket wrench here. I'm holding the bottom lock nut in place for the wrench. Now as I mentioned before, you can fine-tune your seat channel from side-to-side like that. We just need to make sure that it matches up with the other side. If you'd like to, you can check it by the tape measure before you tighten it down. Looks pretty good. All right, now with this one do not, let's go ahead and repeat that same process on the other side. Now that we've got our second seat channel installed, the next thing we can do is we can grab our spring nuts. The way these work, these are going to go in our seat channel. You'll push down and you'll turn 90 degrees. It's going to lock in place. This is what's going to hold our skewers in place on our seat channel. It's pretty simple. Put it in the seat channel. Push it down and then turn it. As you can see, it uses the ridges to lock it in place along the seat channel. You will want to make sure to provide good spacing between the two. Since we're using the four-bike kit, we'll go ahead and place this one over here. Well, let's go ahead and put those in place on the other side. All right. Then now with those in place, let's go ahead and grab some of our brackets. Now, Let's Go Aero has provided us with two different types of brackets to provide good spacing between our bikes. This is so our handlebars don't run into each other when we have our bikes lined up. We'll grab one of our brackets and you can really have the spacing anywhere you want, just as long as both brackets are facing the same direction. You just use whatever works best for your bike. We're going to start off with this position. We're going to want to grab one of our bolts, along with one of the lock washers, and along with one of the big washers. We're just going to thread that through onto one of our spring nuts. Before we tighten those down all the way, let's go ahead and set these brackets up as well. All right. Now this time we are going to be using the smaller brackets. We're going to face them this direction. We'll use the same hardware just to hold those down in place. By doing this, it's going to give us more bike clearance between the two bikes. We're going to leave our brackets loose for now. That way we can adjust them to fit for our skewers. We're going to line up our two holes here with the two holes here in our skewer. Just like that. Then we're going to take one of our bolts, put on one of the lock washers, and then one of the smaller washers. Put that through the hole. Then following that, we're going to take one of the larger washers. Put that underneath. Then a lock nut. Then let's do the same thing on this side. All right, now with that in place, let's go ahead and tighten those down. We'll get our skewer nice and secure to our brackets. I'm still going to leave these loose here. That way I can adjust it for my bike. All right, now we'll go ahead and install our skewer on this side and then repeat the whole process on the other side. Now with all of our skewers in place, let's go ahead and load up the four bikes. We'll need to make sure that our skewer's opened up, ready to receive our forks, and that there is enough space in between here and here. That looks pretty good. Let's go ahead and set that up. We can go ahead and close up our skewer. It still needs to be tightened down. As you can see, it's a little loose here. The idea is to be able to close it with a little bit of force. That way it provides a nice secure fit around our fork. You just want to tighten it up over time and still checking your skewer. That seems pretty good. As you can see, we have left our brackets loose so we can we adjust our skewers to make room for all four bikes. You only have to do this once, because once you have it set up to fit all four of your bikes, you can have them all tightened down, and you can leave them that way. We're just going to scoot that skewer over a little bit. If you also need to, your back tire is freely to move, so you can move those from side-to-side a little bit to make room for your next bike. Let's go with that right there. We're just going to tighten down our two brackets. Make sure our skewer is opened up. Let's try that. Now we'll go ahead and load up the rest of our bikes, in an alternating fashion, and we'll adjust as needed. As you can see, we have got all four bikes all loaded up in our gear cage here. I just want to point out real quick that our handlebars do hang out past the frame of our cargo carrier, which is fine, but if you are using an enclosed cargo carrier, you'll just want to bring everything in a little bit tighter. All right, with one final step, Let's Go Aero has provided us with four bungee cords to secure our detached wheel. All right, so we'll run it through our wheel and around the frame. Find a secure spot for it to tie into. All right. Then we've got it. With everything all loaded up, let's go ahead and take it on our test course and see how it performs. Let's first go into our slalom. This is going to show side-to-side action, such as going around corners or evasive maneuvering. Then onto our alternating speed bumps. This is going to show a twisting action, such as going over pot holes or uneven pavement. Then finally onto our solid speed bumps. This is going to show an up-and-down action, such as pulling in and out of a driveway or out of a parking garage.
