Bearing, Race and Seal Information
More and more people are switching their trailers over to disc brakes, and with good reason. Disc brakes deliver consistent braking - even at highway speeds - unlike drum brakes, which often show a substantial drop in braking torque at higher speeds. In addition, disc brakes offer a substantially shorter stopping distance than drum brakes.
Disc brake calipers have only one moving part, rather than the many found in drum brakes. This means that there are fewer parts to maintain, fewer parts to get damaged and fewer parts to have to repair or replace, thus reducing maintenance costs.
The integral hub-and-rotor is made from cast iron, matching SAE specifications. Cast iron is ideal for high-temperature operations and offers a favorable friction coefficient to ensure adequate stopping power. Kodiak's rotors are vented to effectively dissipate heat, dramatically reducing the incidence of heat-related damage. Furthermore, machined disc brakes minimize the chance of contamination between the hub and rotor, resulting in excellent performance and long life.
Kodiak calipers are constructed of stainless steel to prevent flexing and rust. Less flex means more braking torque, resulting in smooth, even braking every time. The corrosion-resistant stainless steel piston is 30 percent larger than standard pistons, ensuring shorter stopping distance and increased torque. In addition, the unique low-drag design of Kodiak's calipers allows the piston to retract farther than in most standard models, giving you a cooler-running brake.
Designed for axles with 4-bolt brake flange configurations, the included mounting brackets are made of heavy-duty, corrosion-resistant stainless steel that is embossed to provide additional threading for guide bolts. The added thread strength ensures a tighter, more secure connection between the caliper and bracket. Another unique feature of Kodiak's brackets is the side-support angle, which guarantees that the load is carried by the bracket, rather than the bolts.

Welcome back, etrailer Neighbors. I'm Steven, and today we're looking at our Kodiak disc brake assembly, a 10 inch hub and rotor one-piece assembly with a five on four and a half inch lug pattern. Now, this kit does have a Dacromet and stainless steel coating. It is rated to 3,500 pounds. Now, like I was just saying, that plating, that coating, that Dacromet and stainless steel, that's gonna be corrosion-resistant in freshwater and saltwater use. And it's up to about 400 hours of a salt spray testing.
That's where they get that number from. Again, it is a one-piece integral hub and rotor assembly. You can kind of see all the slots built in there. That's gonna help dissipate the heat. You've got your races already pressing the front and the back.
You can kinda see that finish better on there. They are half inch wheel stud. That's the thickness there. And like I said, it's a 3,500 pound capacity axle rating if it's a number 84 spindle. Now, the brake flange configuration to mount his is a four on four pattern as far as that goes.
And this mount. This flange mount has what they consider side support design that ensures the load is placed on the bracket itself and not on the bolts that mount there. So that's gonna help secure it and give it a longer life. It also has extra embossing on there for additional thread contact, which ensures a tight secure mounting for the caliper guide bolts themselves. Again, all 'em guide bolts, lug nuts, hardware, everything's included.
Now to get into the races and the bearings. Again, the races are already pressed in. The inner bearing, that's your larger one in the kit. It's an L68149. The outer bearing, that's your smaller one. That's a part number L44649. Your seal, it's an RG06-050. The inner diameter on this guy, so the actual rubber seal part itself, that is 1.719 inches and the outer diameter on the outside is 2.565. Now, this kit does have a two-year warranty. It's pretty much made for wheel sizes, 13 inch and bigger. Again, it's got industry-standard bearings and seals that I just ran through with you. Stainless steel construction, you know that's not gonna flex like aluminum and other brands that are out there. The stainless steel caliper itself, that's gonna be self-adjusting. It's gonna give you a nice smooth, equal braking across the braking surface and you get your ceramic pads included. Very nice thick pad. And again, the bracket itself, the caliper rather. Everything very nice, heavy-duty. It's got the built-in attachments for the brake lines, all your bleeder screws, all that kind of stuff you need to do to install it. Keep in mind, to install this kit, if you're switching from electric to hydraulic, you will need to purchase, sold-separately, the brake actuator and all the brake lines required to activate this kit. And again, this is just one side. You will need to get at least two of these if you're doing one axle. Well folks, that's gonna do it for our look today at this Kodiak disc brake hit. I do hope the information that we've talked about today is helpful for you. I hope you're able to get the right parts the first time. Always, always, always use our fit guide and if you have any questions, don't hesitate to call us or contact us on our website. I'm Steven, have a great day and stay safe towing.
