Flexible Rubber Brake Hose

This Kodiak brake hose is made of rubber, making it a practical choice for a variety of applications. Because you can easily bend it, a rubber hose is simpler to work with than a rigid stainless steel brake line. This flexibility makes a rubber hose great for use with foldaway trailer tongues because it is less likely to kink or break when bent. In addition, rubber hoses allow for a wide range of motion so articulating parts can effectively function. These qualities make rubber hoses better suited than steel lines for trailers with torsion axle suspension systems and trailers that have disc brakes.

Stainless steel brake lines have braided exteriors, which can not only wear against exterior surfaces, but also against the interior lining of the hose if dirt gets underneath the steel braid. And if the braid on a stainless steel line tears, it can cut into the hose lining. The exterior surface of this hose is solid rubber, so there are no crevices for debris to enter.

Durable Fittings with Deep Threads

Kodiak Hose Flare

Kodiak brake hoses have corrosion-resistant brass fittings with stainless steel flares. These fittings have a gap built into them that allows room for a line wrench - also called a flare nut wrench - to slide over the line and down to the nut. This type of wrench grips the nut better than a standard open-ended wrench so there is less chance of stripping the threads as you tighten down the nut.

The stainless steel that is used to create the flares on this hose is stronger than brass. As a result, these fittings are more durable than ones made entirely of brass. The stainless flares are primarily designed to keep the fittings from splitting when you tighten them down, but they offer absolute rust protection as well.

Kodiak's fittings have deeper threads than many other fittings on the market to provide a higher thread engagement. Deeper threads offer an advantage when used with fittings that have the same thread depth. These Kodiak fittings will work with most fittings on the market, but when they're used with other Kodiak fittings, the result is a stronger connection with fewer leaks.

Video Transcript for Kodiak 6 Foot Hydraulic Brake Hose Installation

Today on our boat trailer we're going to be doing a complete brake overhaul. We're going to using three different length brake hoses here from Kodiak. One of them is twenty feet long. It's part number BH-3MFS-20. We'll also be using a six foot length one that is part number BH-3MFS-6, and finally we'll be using a two foot long one which is part number BH-3MFS-2. The brake hose that we're using is six feet long, connected to the passenger side caliper. We'll unscrew our protective cap that was on our brake hose fitting on the caliper.

We'll start our brake hose, and thread it in. We can tighten it with a 3/8th inch wrench. We'll snug it down until it's snug. We don't want to strip these out, so once you start feeling resistance go a little bit past that, and you'll be good. We'll be securing our brake hose with a zip tie to this bracket here that the boat rests on, this wooden block. We'll secure it here for right now with a zip tie, and we'll work our way across the axle too.

May have to double up on zip ties because this is a thick axle. Now we'll go across the axle right here, generally this area is good. We'll secure it with a zip tie here as well. Now we can grab our tee fitting and install it. The tee fitting that we're going to be using is part number T0778500. We're going to secure our tee fitting right here versus somewhere else because we're going into metal.

We don't want to go into the wooden bulkhead right here, because this is a boat trailer and wood will tend to rot out and have to be replaced at some point. We'll go right here and install this with a self-tapping screw. That gives us a nice solid connection point for our hoses to mount to. Now we'll take our six foot section that goes over to our passenger side, screw it in right here. We'll take our two foot hose here, screw it into the caliper, and then our tee fitting. Now we'll snug up all of our connections.

We want to make sure we have these snug but not over tightened, that way we can check for leaks properly and if we need to tighten them we can. We'll take our long hose that we're going to take to the front, screw it into the front side of our tee fitting here, start snugging this down. That's probably good. We'll take our hose and start routing it alongside our frame going toward the front. We'll pull our brake line taut here in the back and start securing along holes in the frame with zip ties, trimming the excess off along as we go. We'll just keep doing that until we reach the front of the trailer. Now that we have our brake line mounted up to where our master cylinder is, now we can take our brake line and secure it into our lock out solenoid. We'll tuck up the excess brake hose underneath the trailer in the channel. We'll tighten up our fitting and we'll secure our excess down. These wires coming off the lock solenoid, we'll ground one of them to the trailer frame and the other one will go to the reverse wire signal from our trailer input on the electrical connector. With all of our connections made for our brake hoses we can fill our master cylinder with some fresh, clean brake fluid from a unopened container. Fill it up, then we secure our cap like so. We can open up the brake bleeder on the passenger side because it's the furthest from the master cylinder, and we're going to use the top one. You always use the top brake bleeder. We'll open this up a little bit using a 7/16th wrench. Now we can start bleeding our brakes. You can take your safety chain here and it will give you a place to rest a 2x4 or metal pipe along, and then you can push the tongue of the trailer back into the master cylinder, and we can begin the bleeding process. By pushing back on the tongue like so, and we'll just keep on doing this process until you have no air bubbles coming out of the bleeder screw on either caliper. Now that we've had a steady stream of fluid coming out of the passenger side bleeder screw here on the top, we'll do the same on the driver's side. Once we have a steady stream of fluid coming out of that one as well, we'll top off our brake fluid in the master cylinder and we will check the system for any leaks at any of the connection points where our hoses meet. If not leaks are found, our hydraulic portion of the brake system is done. We can go ahead and put our wheels back on at this point in time. That completes the installation of the Kodiak brake hoses.

Very useful flexible brake hose. It was part of large order of brake parts to renovate a newly purchase, yet very old trailer with gutted/stripped surge brakes. I think it is typically used for a swing-away tongue, but I just needed an extension due to an unusually long tongue. 320020

Do you have a question about this Accessories and Part?

  • Available 6-Foot Flex Brake Line with 3/16-Inch Male Fittings
  • We do not manufacture the brake lines and brake line kits we sell; they are as they come from our suppliers such as Demco, Kodiak and Titan. But we do have a Kodiak flexible brake line # BH-3MFS-6 that has your required fittings and that is 6-feet long, just about 10-inches longer than your requested 62-inches. You can see this and all other similar brake line items and kits on the linked page.

  • Availability of 24 Foot Long Brake Line and 6 Foot Long Brake Line Sections
  • The longest hard brake line we have is 19 feet like the part # T4336000 which does have 3/16 inch sized fittings. In flexible brake line we have the part # BH-3MFS-24 which is 24 feet but does have correct fitting size. At 6 foot length we have flexible line like the part # BH-3MFS-6.

  • Availability of Boat Trailer Brake Line with Male Fittings
  • You can click on the linked page to see our brake lines and brake line kits for boat trailers. You'll first select either disc or drum brakes using the filters on the page. We offer brake lines on their own, such as the 1-foot line # BH-3MFS-1 from Kodiak that uses 2 standard male flare nut fittings or their 6-foot # BH-3MFS-6. Lengths up to 24-feet are offered, part # BH-3MFS-24, and these are also available in kits like # 24TA-BLKIT which is for tandem-axle drum brakes. We do not offer...

  • Flexible Brake Line for an Extending Tongue Boat Trailer
  • I do have a flexible brake like that can reach the end of your trailer tongue while extended with the Kodiak Hydraulic Brake Hose part # BH-3MFS-6 but it will not extend and retract with your trailers tongue. Unfortunately, they don't really make anything for your application to my knowledge therefore, your best option would be to use the fixed length flexible brake line and tie off the excess while not in use.

  • PSI Rating Of Kodiak Trailer Flexible Rubber Brake Line # BH-3MFS-6

  • Flexible Brake Line For Fold Away Coupler Hinge Kit
  • I recommend Titan 25 inch Hydraulic Brake line part # T0980100 to use with the Fulton Fold-Away Coupler Hinge kit part # FHDPB340301. The 25 inches is LIKELY long enough because the line attaches to the back of the actuator at the master cylinder and gives you enough slack to not put stress on the rest of the brake lines when the coupler is folded in. Its always better to have a little bit of slack in the brake line when installing the folding tongue for that reason. If you need a longer...

  • Availability of a Hydraulic Brake Hose to Install on a Folding Trailer Tongue
  • We carry many different sizes hydraulic brake hoses that can work in replacing your steel brake line on your trailer's surge coupler. I think the Kodiak 6 foot hose with 3/16 of an inch male flare fittings, # BH-3MFS-6, will be the best solution. This hose could attached to the master cylinder, if the fitting is 3/16, and then run the hose along trailer tongue until you can connect the other end to your brake line. You will have to cut the steel line and install a inverted flare...

  • Is Kodiak Hydraulic Brake Hose BH-3MFS-6 Flexible Enough to Make 90-Degree Bend
  • Kodiak Hydraulic Brake Hose # BH-3MFS-6 is flexible enough to be installed inside a 3 x 3-inch trailer tongue and make a 90-degree bend. The metal fittings themselves naturally have no flex but the hose material is very flexible since it is designed to work with brakes on torsion axles which will require the hose to bend and flex continuously as the axle's torsion spindles move. If you check out the linked video you'll see one of our team handling the hose and how easily it bends. We...
