Flexible Rubber Brake Hoses

Kodiak brake hoses are made of rubber, making them a practical choice for a variety of applications. Because you can easily bend them, rubber hoses are simpler to work with than rigid stainless steel brake lines. This flexibility makes rubber hoses great for use with foldaway trailer tongues because they are less likely to kink or break when bent. In addition, rubber hoses allow for a wide range of motion so articulating parts can effectively function. These qualities make rubber hoses better suited than steel lines for trailers with torsion axle suspension systems and trailers that have disc brakes.

Stainless steel brake lines have braided exteriors, which can not only wear against exterior surfaces, but also against the interior lining of the hose if dirt gets underneath the steel braid. And if the braid on a stainless steel line tears, it can cut into the hose lining. The exterior surface of these hoses is solid rubber, so there are no crevices for debris to enter.

Durable Fittings with Deep Threads

Kodiak Hose Flare

Kodiak brake hoses have corrosion-resistant brass fittings with stainless steel flares. These fittings have a gap built into them that allows room for a line wrench - also called a flare nut wrench - to slide over the line and down to the nut. This type of wrench grips the nut better than a standard open-ended wrench so there is less chance of stripping the threads as you tighten down the nut.

The stainless steel that is used to create the flares on these hoses is stronger than brass. As a result, these fittings are more durable than ones made entirely of brass. The stainless flares are primarily designed to keep the fittings from splitting when you tighten them down, but they offer absolute rust protection as well.

Kodiak's fittings have deeper threads than many other fittings on the market to provide a higher thread engagement. Deeper threads offer an advantage when used with fittings that have the same thread depth. These Kodiak fittings will work with most fittings on the market, but when they're used with other Kodiak fittings, the result is a stronger connection with fewer leaks.

Video Transcript for Kodiak Trailer Brakes 15SI-BLKIT Review

Today we're going to take a look at the Kodiak 15 foot single axle hydraulic brake line kit. Now these brake hoses and the fittings will let you run brake fluid from your surge brake actuator to your trailer brakes. This kit, here, is designed for use on single axle trailers with drum or disk brakes. The flexible design on these hoses makes it perfect for use with fold-away trailer tongues, disk brakes, and torsion axles. These rubber hoses do meet the DOT, Department of Transportation, and the SAE standards, and they're easier to install than your rigid steel lines. This kit includes everything shown here on the table. One 15-foot long, flexible brake line.

One 7-foot long, flexible brake line. One 1-1/2 foot long flexible brake line. One T-fitting, and 14 1/2 inch loom clamps. Now, if you look on the ends of these hoses, they use a brass male swivel flare nut fitting on the ends of the hose. They have a nice deep thread to them, and those deep threads will improve your connection to help prevent leaks. It also swivels, you can see, which allow the flare fittings to turn without the hose twisting.

If you notice, it's on a stainless steel flare, and it will corrosion. They're a lot stronger than brass to reduce any splitting. Also, if you notice, when you push this up to tighten it in, they'll give you this open are on the flare fitting, this will let you use a line wrench for better grip, which will minimize the risk of stripping the threads when installing this. If you notice, the fittings, right here, it's a double crimp brass ferrule, right here, securing the clamp fittings to the hose. Now, the fitting right here, is a corrosion resistant brass fitting. It's a T-fitting, which will connect your hydraulic lines. On all three ports, they do use female inverted flares.

The loom clamps, they're heavy duty loom clamps. They will secure these hoses to your trailer's frame. A few specs on these hoses. The inner diameter on them, is 1/8 of an inch. The fitting size is 3/16 of an inch.

The thread size is 3/8 inch by 24. That should do it for the review on the Kodiak 15-foot single axle hydraulic brake line kit.

Argued about brake lines, Stainless vs rubber and rubber won base on your sales comments. This is a trailer and not a vehicle where stainless would be better, but car manufacturers use rubber to the wheel. Good job, but now need warmer weather to get installation done. 337592

I have a 2011 Lund impact 1775 on a Shorelander single axle trailer which tips the scale around 2500# dry. I felt that surge brakes would be a smart investment and take some pressure off my Ford F150 to help stop that beast. I researched kits, actuators, calipers and rotors and decided on the Kodiak caliper and rotor kit and the Titan actuator. eTrailer had both in stock, a convenient hose kit to boot and fair price so I purchased the lot from them. Delivery was very quick and all of the hardware arrived together and in good shape. It took me one afternoon to assemble the actuator on my swing \-away tongue and another to install the calipers and rotors. There was one snag with the hose kit, in that one of the hoses was incorrect. I contacted Bryan at eTrailer and he was very accommodating; rushing the correct hose to me and then following up by phone when I received it. It took about two hours to finish the installation and I couldn't be more pleased, both with the quality of the products and the first-rate service! I have yet to bleed the system and take it out for a run but I don't anticipate any issues. I fully recommend eTrailer, their products and service! 468406

I want to thank you again for your assistance in getting me the correct parts for my trailer brake installation. I took three major road trips with the boat last year and the trailer brakes worked flawlessly. The major reasons I installed the braking system were: the overall weight of the boat and trailer in relationship to my pickup 2006 F150 and braking performancesafety on wetslick roads. Both of these concerns were tested last year with wonderful results. I have been telling my friends, with similar trailer packages, to investigate your product. Thanks again,

I was initially concerned about finding the right parts as the trailer was fairly old. etrailer had just what I needed. The website is so elegant. I was able to find the right parts quickly and with comparative options to make a final selection. The how-to videos are great. This made installation a little more comfortable. Especially when you do not perform this type of work every day. The parts were of high quality and are working as expected. I highly recommend etrailer for any of your trailer needs. 545358

This hose kit worked great with the disc brake kit I added to my new Haulmark trailer. Tip: I have a 6 X 12 v-nose trailer, but needed all of the hose included in this 15' hose kit. 343508

Received the brake line kit as ordered. It has not been installed as yet. Looks like it will do the job okay. Would have been happier with a 3/16" ID system rather than the 1/8" as supplied. 342449

Recived the parts for the trailer. Not sure why I didn't get the nuts and washers for the back plate, thought they would come with rest of the brakes, also on the brake line the brass 3 way block was size 3x4x3 and would not fit. Went to [...], they had a 3x4x3 and it works great. The rest of the parts fit Great. Thank you I will be back again. Bob 286345

Do you have a question about this Accessories and Part?

  • Will Kodiak Disc Brake Kit K2R1258L12 Fit a 12K Rockwell Axle on PJ Trailer
  • I am assuming that one of the axles has brakes and the other does not. If that is the case and the axle that does not have brakes has idler hubs then you can use Kodiak kit # K2R1258L12 provided that the hub has an 8 on 6-1/2 bolt pattern and brake mounting flanges on the axle. You will also need some addition brake line and related parts such as what is included in kit # 15SI-BLKIT. Or it may be more beneficial to go ahead and replace all the lines with a tandem axle kit # 24TA-BLKIT.

  • Replacement Axle with Hydraulic Drum Brakes on a 2,200 Lb Boat Trailer

The Dexter trailer axle measures 72" from the face of each hub and 58" from the center of each spring seat. The measurements you gave are likely the same as what is listed above because the start of each measurement could vary slightly from person to person.
