Hello neighbors, Steven here with etrailer.com. Today we're looking at this nice towing kit with the ball mount included and the trailer wiring for your Stealth Hitches. It does have a 2" ball and it is a custom fit application. So by custom fit we mean it's specific to certain vehicles. You wanna go to etrailer.com, top center of our homepage, enter your year, make and model in our fit guide. Make sure you're getting the right parts for your specific vehicle.
Now folks, this complete kit will let you use your Stealth Hitch Rack Receiver for towing and this nice detachable ball mount will literally lock up into place into that hitch in place of the receiver attachment. So you already have the Stealth Hitch. It came with a receiver attachment, a square tube that pushes up and locks into place. Well, you take that out, you push this bad boy up in there, you lock it into place. Now you've got a usable ball mount for towing a trailer hitch.
Now the included hitch ball is gonna provide a connection again for your trailer's ball coupler and it's got a nice black powder coat finish on it and it's a nice heavy duty steel so it's gonna resist rust, corrosion and that kind of stuff. It also comes with a nice set of safety chain holders. Those will get bolted in place with the hardware you have and including these two new lock nuts. You're also gonna get the four pole wire connection and it's got a pull hold built into it so you can pull it out easy when you installed it. It also comes with a dust cover that's gonna go over that to keep it clean.
Now it's gonna come with also this nice pulse modulator and it's a converter that's going to keep your wiring on your vehicle safe. So you're gonna hardwire that in place with the included wire here, run it all the way up to your 12 volt battery and that in turn is gonna protect your wiring on the vehicle. And it's also gonna power your trailer's taillights and turn signals. It's also gonna help, again, overloading your vehicle's electrical system. So it's got a built-in safety modulator there and that's gonna help with everything.
All the connectors, heat shrink butt connectors, the connector for the battery, zip ties, double-sided adhesive here that goes in the back of this black modulator and that helps connect that and adhere it to the wall hidden out of place in the back of your vehicle. Now it's does have a gross trailer weight of up to 3,500 pounds. Again, it is a ball that is a 2" ball size, nice limited lifetime warranty. Keep in mind, this system is not rated for weight distribution system, so this will not work with weight distribution. The ball hole diameter here, the hole that goes through or the ball goes through is 1". The base thickness, this hole plate here is 3/4" thick. The total length from the center or from the outside here to the outside is 16-1/4". While from the center of the ball hole to the center of the locking peg is 13-1/2". I just finished installing the stealth hitch and the towing package (SH53GR) on my Telluride. For those who have been using the Stealth Hitch website, SH53GR is the same as Stealth Hitch part number SHT25067A, which is the right one if you aren't pre-wired for towing. Put another way, SH53GR is the right one if you didn't buy a tow package with your Telly.
The instructions (and video!) were absolutely spot on. I consider myself handy, but I don't really work on cars. I had zero trouble at any point of the installation with knowing what to do. This is really a compliment to eTrailer (who made the video) and Stealth Hitches, who I believe authored the instructions.
I did run into a few small problems while installing. First, two holes on the frame didn't quite line up by a tiny amount. Is this the hitch or my car? It's hard to know. This made it difficult to fit some bolts through. I ended up having to use a small 3 lb sledge to get them to go in. Additionally, I had some trouble getting the latch block to go into its bracket. Some heavy coercion with a rubber mallet finally got it in place. These problems weren't present in the video though, so your experience will probably be better.
My overall installation time wasn't 40 minutes, as the review suggested. It actually took me about 7 hours - about 5 for the rack receiver and 2 for the towing package. One thing made things go faster -- I bought some socket adapters for my impact driver. That probably saved me at least an hour. I probably lost an hour because I was missing a couple of sockets that I was sure I had and was trying to use a crescent wrench before I asked a neighbor.
As a side note, I'm 100% happy with the Stealth Hitch. My Telly looks unmodified and the Trailer Hitch is rock solid.
Purchased this a year ago and am just as happy with it now as I was a year ago. Excellent quality product. The installation was challenging but clear and straight forward. etrailer did a great job with the how-to videos. I easily recommend this product to anyone.
Not all the parts were in the box. It apparently requires additional kit that I was never made aware of before I bought it. Very unhappy.
