Single-Piece, Wraparound Jaw

Wraparound Jaw on Husky 16K W Fifth Wheel Hitch

The wraparound, single-piece jaw on this heavy-duty fifth-wheel trailer hitch offers excellent security and stability by surrounding your trailer's king pin. The increased jaw-to-king-pin contact not only creates a stronger connection than you would find with a slide-bar jaw, but it also helps to reduce the rattle and jarring movement that is often experienced when towing a fifth-wheel trailer.

King Pin Safety Features

The jaw of the Husky Silver Series 16K W fifth-wheel trailer hitch will only close when your trailer's king pin is positioned correctly inside the hitch. A trigger plate sits just beneath the jaw. When this plate is pressed by the king pin, the jaw will fully close. Because the king pin must press the trigger plate on the underside of the jaw for the jaw to close, high pinning cannot occur.

King pin safety indicator on Husky Silver Series fifth-wheel trailer hitch

A color-coded king pin indicator is built into the handle so that you can easily determine if the jaw is open or closed. Any time that you can see the red tab at the rear of the hitch, the jaw is open. When no red can be seen, you can rest assured that you are properly hitched. Further secure your trailer to your hitch by inserting a padlock (sold separately) through the lockable tab on the handle.

Video Transcript for Husky Fifth Wheel HT31326 Review

Today we're going to review part number Ht31326. This is the Husky replacement head assembly for the Husky Silver Series, fifth wheel trailer hitches. This has a 16,000 pound weight capacity. Now for this review I'm just going over the part which is the head assembly. Basically to install this on a vehicle you would still need the legs, either the fixed legs or the slider legs, and then the rails, the insulation kit with the rails, that would allow you to put this fifth wheel in your vehicle. The rails and the insulation kit and the legs are all sold separately on our website. This replacement hitch head will fit the Husky Silver Series, 16,000 pound fifth wheel trailer hitch.

It uses the single piece jaw which will wrap around the kingpin to provide excellent jaw to kingpin contact. This will give you maximum security with less rattle and chucking. The head on this is a fully articulating design head. You can see it goes front to back and side to side. This will make for a quick simple hook up, even on unlevel ground. This head will move in unison with the trailer during travel, so that will help minimize the jarring.

It does have minimal four and a half movement. Right here this pivot beam or this pivot bolt right here, one has a inaudible 0:01:20 fitting on this end so you can lubricate it. On the other backside here there's a castle nut with a pin and clip through it. That castle nut can be tightened to secure the hitch head to this crossbeam. On the very back of the jaw right here there is a trigger plate which will ensure proper hook up. Basically when the kingpin is in there correctly, it would push on that trigger plate which would close this hand automatically and lock it into place, so the jaw can only close when that kingpin is securely inside of the hitch.

It has this easy to access lockable handle which will sit close to the truck cab, far from the pinbox. It has a kingpin indicator, which I'm going to show you those in a minute when I turn it around. This will let you know when you're safely hooked up, and on one of these where this pin and clip is you can actually put a padlock through the holes to give you extra additional security so nobody can release that handle. The padlock is sold separately. This is a black powder coat finish, and the hardware is included. It has yellow zinc fasteners which will resist corrosion.

It does give you the pins to slide through here when you attach it to the legs and the clips that will hold the legs into the rails themselves. A few specs on this, it has a gross towing weight capacity of 16,000 pounds, the vertical load limit or pin weight capacity is 4,000 pounds. I just want to show you how this operates again. Right now the jaw is closed, so what you want to do, let me just spin this around so you can see on the side here, right here is where the two holes would line up. So if we take this pin and clip out that'll let the handle be able to be pulled out. So what you want to do when you're going to hook up to your fifth wheel is pull it completely out and then move it towards the rear of the tow vehicle or towards the trailer, and that will lock it open, and then you're ready to receive the kingpin. As I was mentioning earlier, you can see on the back here there's a kingpin indicator. There's a little pin here that now is flush, which means it's open inaudible 0:03:24 when the kingpin installs that would pop out. So if you look from your cab of your truck you'd be able to see the pin when it's locked or hooked up correctly, the kingpin is installed correctly, this would pop out and then this handle would slide across and cover up this red circle, this part here. Once it does that, then you know you're safely - the kingpin's installed correctly. So what would happen is, you can see the jaw is completely open now. With the jaw completely open, what you'll do is move your trailer into your trailer, the kingpin would come into place here, and then for the first time this jaw would close around it and then once that kingpin, there was a trigger plate I was mentioning right back here, once that kingpin hits that trigger plate you'll watch this handle will lock into place. It pushes on that trigger plate, that pin I showed you in the back here would pop out, you'd be able to tell, this hand would slide over and cover up that red circle and then you're able to put your pin and clip back through or your padlock, whichever you prefer. Then it's all safely hooked up correctly. That should do it for the review on part number Ht31326, the Husky replacement head assembly for the Husky Silver Series fifth wheel trailer hitch. .

Hitch received with no issues and quick shipping. It came in 2 boxes. Replaced the hitch head on a Husky 16K hitch that I purchased in 2003. The old hitch was still working but I liked the features of the new model - grease zerk, castle nut with keeper, and hitch engagement method. The new one is a little heavier. There was a little wear on the old hitch because I did not remove the pivot pin and grease it the first few years that I owned the hitch. Having a grease zerk will make it more user friendly. 380929

I ordered the four-way tilt Husky 5th wheel head as an upgrade of the old two-way tilt Husky 5th wheel head. I kept the old sliding hitch frame. The upgrade improved the trailer hitching and unhitching experience. Additionally, there seems to be less stress on the trailer pin box and trailer frame from side to side road fluctuations which helps with pickup passenger comfort. I have driven twice to Alaska, one before the hitch upgrade and one after. On very very rough roads, the four-way flexibility of the 5th wheel head is greatly appreciated. eTrailers service, consultations and price were great. Why shop anywhere else? 329838

After purchasing the four-way tilt Husky 5th wheel head, I purchased a long bed pickup and transferred the Husky head from a slider to standard 15,000 pound Husky legs. The legs were too narrow and shims were included with the legs. I never got the Husky legs with shims to fit the head properly without binding. I was disappointed that the legs were too small in width. Sold the Husky 5th wheel hitch. I now have a Curt 5th wheel hitch which is great.

I replaced a 8 year old Husky 16K hitch with the new one (HT31326) and it fit fine. The new Husky 16K hitch is about 15 lbs. more in weight than the old and made a lot stronger in design. Very happy with the choice of product and etrailer. The shipping was right on time and so was the price. 195336

The product works as good as the day I installed it.
