mppt 40 amp solar controller

This solar controller prevents harmful overcharging by adjusting the power generated by a solar panel before it reaches your RV batteries. It uses maximum power point tracking technology to compare solar output to battery voltage and converts that output to an optimal amperage. Typically, this type of technology is a good fit for larger systems with higher voltages.

Automatic Multistage Charging System

Using a multistage charging system, the controller automatically switches voltages while the battery bank charges. This accelerates the charge, but also helps extend battery life by adjusting the voltage during the different modes. The controller is compatible with multiple battery types and includes preset charging profiles for sealed/gel, AGM, and flooded/wet cell batteries.

Charging Modes

  1. Bulk: This mode charges at the full rated load for a quicker recharge time. As the name suggests, this is where the bulk of the charging happens. It typically charges the battery to at least 80% capacity.
  2. Absorption: This mode provides controlled voltage to ensure a full charge. Once the battery reaches between 80% to 90% capacity, the absorption state will kick in and start charging at a regulated voltage. In each charging profile, this mode is set to last for 30 minutes after the bulk charge is completed.
  3. Float: Once the battery reaches full charge, this mode maintains a lower voltage to compensate for self-discharge. This reduces battery stress and minimizes gassing and water loss.
  4. Equalization: On flooded/wet cell batteries, this mode activates to prevent stratification and sulfate buildup during extended float cycles. These two issues can damage a battery by causing the accumulation of acid at the bottom of the battery and hardened sulfate crystals on the battery plates. This mode is especially helpful when your battery is going unused during storage.

Practical, Convenient Features

battery sensor

This solar controller comes with a sensor that enables temperature compensated charging. As the controller experiences changes in temperature, the sensor compensates for those changes by adjusting the voltage during charging to help extend the life of your batteries. This protects from overcharging in hot temperatures and undercharging in cold temperatures.

parallel ports

It is also built with parallel capability that lets you add another 40-amp MPPT controller to double your output capacity. This is useful if you expand your solar charging system with additional panels to generate more amperage.

Lastly, the controller includes several built-in safety features to help protect your equipment. The charging process will shut down if the controller starts to overheat and when an overcurrent is detected. Also, if the battery or solar panel is wired incorrectly, it activates a reverse polarity alarm.

How It Installs

mppt 40 amp solar controller

The solar controller vertically mounts to a wall near the battery compartment. The manual includes a mounting template with measurements to ensure proper installation. It is wired to the solar panel using MC4 cables. Then, the battery bank is wired to the terminals on the controller. You can also install a fuse or circuit breaker (sold separately) up to 60 amps between the solar controller and battery for additional current protection.

battery sensor

To install the battery temperature sensor, the ring terminal is installed to the battery and the terminal block is plugged into the controller's temperature port.

Available Fixed-Mount Remote

mppt solar controller remote

The optional fixed-mount remote (sold separately) lets you monitor and control your MPPT solar controller from inside your RV. It shows the charging current, battery voltage, and battery state of charge. It allows you to input your battery type and choose a charging profile. The remote also lets you use Maximum Power Boost Technology. You can simply press a button to activate Bulk mode for the highest charging voltage. This lets you quickly top off your battery bank before the end of the day by capturing as much power as possible.

Video Transcript for Go Power RV Solar Panels 34280435 Review

Speaker 1: Today we're going to a look at the 40 amp Go Power MPPT solar controller. Now a solar controller is an essential component of your Photovoltaic solar system. The controller will maintain the life of the battery by protecting it from overcharging. So when you're batteries have 100% state of charge, the controller prevents overcharging by limiting the current that's flowing into your batteries from your solar system. This controller is an MPPT, that stands for maximum power point tracking solar controller. Maintains the life of the battery by preventing overcharging. And it also charges 12 volt and 24 bolt batteries with higher voltage arrays.

It does offer three battery charging profiles, sealed, AGM, and flooded. Does use the heavy duty terminals to provide low resistance connections. And this is compatible with the Go Power solar flex, the 500 watt kit only, and the solar all electric kits. These can be stacked with another controller for twice the array capacity. System voltage on this is 12 volts or 24 volts. Maximum charge current is 40 amps.

Battery voltage range for a 12 volt system is nine volts to 15.5 volts. And for a 24 volt system 18 volts to 31 volts. The maximum solar power input voltage 150 volts. And over voltage protection is 15-1/2 volts up to 31 volts. Does give a maximum PD power input at 12 volts of 600 watts, and at 24 volts 1,200 watts.

And minimum PV voltage input for 12 volts system 16 volts, for 24 volts system is 33 volts.Does include everything shown here on the table, the solar controller, temperature sensor wire, 18 inch ether net cable, and a nice user's manual to describe how to connect it, and how it operates. Weight on this unit is about 2-1/2 pounds. Dimensions on this, overall length on it, going to be right at about 6-13/16 inches long. Width on it, is going to be right at about 6-11/16 inches wide. And the total depth on it, is going to be right at 2-1/4 inches deep. But that should do it for the review on the 40 amp Go Power MPPT solar controller..

Items as described. Just finished installation on a 2019 Newmar Ventana. Installation went flawlessly and item works as described. I have not connected the solar panels yet but the system is connected to the batteries and it appears to work with no solar inputs but monitors battery levels and states % Charged. 647431
