Video Transcript for Review of Gen-Y Hitch Torsion Weight Distribution Shank 2-1/2 Inch Receiver - GY92NR

Hi, everybody, Andy here with etrailer.com. Let's take a real quick look at this Gen-Y torsion weight distribution shank. Now, this shank is going to slide into your 2.5-inch trailer hitch receiver, and this is going to give you an attachment point for your weight distribution system head assembly. And this is designed for use with most standard weight distribution systems on the market today. Now, this does have a gross towing weight of 10,000 pounds with a tongue weight of 1,100 pounds. And this does feature six mounting positions for attaching the weight distribution head assembly.

It's gonna let you level your trailer with your tow vehicle. This is gonna give you a maximum drop of about 6.5 inches. These holes are spaced at 1 1/4 inches apart on center, and the hole diameter is 3/4 of an inch. And the hitch pin hole diameter over here is 5/8 of an inch. And the shock absorbing design is going to function very similar to a torsion axle.

And I happen to have a cutaway here just to kind of demonstrate what's going on here. So built into Gen-Y's mount are these tubes with these inner bars that are going to be surrounded by these rubber cords. As the attachment point rises and falls, these inner bars are gonna twist inside of the tubes, attempting to follow the motion of the vertical shank. But the rubber cords are gonna prevent the bars from twisting too far. And as each bar turns, these cords are gonna compress to absorb the shock.

This means that any shock that's experienced by your truck can be absorbed before it reaches your trailer and the shock experienced by your trailer won't get transferred to your truck. So this type of shock absorption system is pretty simple to maintain. You're just going to regularly apply grease to the built-in zerks here. Yes, I think you can see them there. And so, it's gonna be very easy to keep this maintained and you got those zerks down here as well.

So you're not gonna have to worry about airbags to fill or any small parts to replace, no hassle or anything like that. If you're wondering about the width, as you can see there, we are sitting right at two inches, if you we inchesre wanting to know about that. Some other measurements that I wanted to give you is the overall height at the tallest point is a foot. It's right at 12 inches. And then the overall shank length is gonna be about 15 5/8 inches. And then the distance from the center of the adjustment holes to our first hitch pin hole is going to be right at about 11 7/8 inches. Moving to the center of the second hitch pin hole, it's gonna be about 13 3/8 inches. This is made here in the USA of heavy duty steel construction with the zinc primer and epoxy powder-coat to resist rust and corrosion. Gen-Y has a great reputation for building very solid, very robust products. A word that comes to mind over and over again when I think of Gen-Y products is, they are overbuilt. And that's definitely the case with this. So it's gonna be very durable. It's gonna hold up really well for you. It is relatively heavy. So that just speaks to the heavy duty nature of this. So this is definitely going to get the job done and hold up very well for you. If you do pick this up, we want to hear back from you regarding how this is working out for you so you can share your experiences with us by dropping a comment or leaving a review on this product page. We'd also like to see photos of this in action with your towing setup. So if you leave a review, you can actually leave us some photos as well. But if you do happen to have any other additional questions, don't hesitate to reach back out to us, whether it's by phone, email, or chat. We wanna make sure that you're getting exactly what you want and need. Well, that's gonna wrap up our quick look today. I do hope that it was helpful for you. Again, my name is Andy. Thank you for joining me.

  • Can the Gen-Y Torsion WDS Shank Be Used W/ the Blue Ox SwayPro WDS
Hey Jeff, I am looking at both shanks and I can't find a reason you can't use the Gen-Y Torsion Weight Distribution Shank # GY92NR with the Blue Ox SwayPro Weight Distribution w/ Sway Control BXW1001. Both shanks have holes spaced 1 1/4" apart and have 3/4" diameter bolt holes meaning the hardware used to attach the WDS should transfer. What reason are you wanting to swap the original shank out? If there is anything else I can help you with, please feel free and let me know!

  • Longer WDH Shank for Jack Clearance on Ford F-350 With 2-1/2" Receiver
Hey Jeff! That Blue Ox # BLU26FR is the only standard shank that will be longer. The rest hold to the same 8" measurement you have now. You could upgrade a little and use something like the Gen-Y Torsion Weight Distribution Shank # GY92NR which will get you almost 3" further out than the Blue Ox. It has 9 holes but a smaller rise/drop with the tradeoff being a higher cost.

Hey Jeff, good news! The Gen-Y Torsion Weight Distribution Shank # GY92NR will work great with your Blue Ox Weight Disttribution System and your 2025 Ford F-250. This shank is designed to work with most weight distribution systems so it'll work with your current setup. • Recommended 2-1/2" Shank for a B&W Continuum Weight Distribution System
No, I am sorry Don. The Gen-Y Torsion Weight Distribution Shank - 2-1/2" Hitches item # GY92NR does not fit the B&W Continuum Weight Distribution System item # BW78FR. The shank on the Continuum is quite a bit wider than the standard size on a weight distribution shank. If you are needing a 2-1/2" shank for a B&W Continuum System like item # BW78FR, we have the B&W Continuum WD Head Assembly w/ Extended Drop - 2-1/2" Shank - 2-5/16" Ball - 16K item # BW34BR.
