This unique weight distribution shank from Gen-Y Hitch has 10 mounting positions that can accept almost any weight distribution head assembly. This lets you easily adjust the height of your weight distribution system. This shank also has built-in shock absorption to ensure a safe, smooth towing experience. Using technology similar to that found in torsion trailer axles, the Gen-Y shank absorbs road shock, isolating any rough jarring or chucking at the connection point. This prevents the rough motion from transferring from the vehicle to the trailer and vice versa.
Driving over bumps, potholes, and uneven terrain causes road shock, which can result in a rough, bumpy ride and even potentially damage your vehicle or trailer. This Gen-Y Hitch torsion shank is designed to absorb road shock at the connection point to create a safe, smooth ride. This is thanks to the internal construction of the shank, which is similar to that of a torsion axle.
Pivot points are built into the Gen-Y weight distribution shank. This allows for movement between the base, which slides into your vehicle's trailer hitch, and the vertical shank, which provides the connection points for your weight distribution head. When your trailer hits a bump, the vertical shank will move up or down accordingly.
Built into the Gen-Y mount are tubes with inner bars that are surrounded by rubber cords. As the attachment points rise or fall, these inner bars twist inside of the tubes, attempting to follow the motion of the vertical shank. But the rubber cords prevent the bars from twisting too far. And as each bar turns, these cords compress to absorb the shock. This means that any shock experienced by your truck can be absorbed before it reaches your trailer, and the shock experienced by your trailer won't get transferred to your truck.
This type of shock-absorption system is easy to maintain. Just regularly apply grease to the built-in zerks to keep the components in working condition. No airbags to fill. No small parts to repair or replace. No hassle.
This unique shank from Gen-Y Hitch includes adjustment holes so that you can attach your weight distribution head in 1 of 10 different positions. With the 10 mounting positions, you have the ability to adjust the height of your weight distribution system to fit your application.
This shank features a built-in mechanical tongue weight scale. The highest arrow on the scale indicates the mount's maximum tongue weight (1,100 lbs). The middle arrow indicates no tongue weight (0 lbs). There must be a minimum tongue weight of 400 lbs for the built-in shock absorption to function. This means that the tongue weight scale's white indicator marker should be between the highest arrow and the arrow directly below it when you hook up your trailer to tow.

Hi there, I'm Michael with etrailer.com. Today we're gonna take a quick look at this GEN-Y Torsion Weight Distribution Shank. The shank is going to slide into your two inch by two inch trailer hitch receiver. It's gonna provide the attachment point for your weight distribution system's head assembly. Now this is designed for use with most standard weight distribution systems on the market. You can see it is right at two inches wide there, so should accommodate most heads out there.
This does have two 5/8 diameter hitch pin holes there. The hitch pin and clip are not included. You probably already have one for your hitch, but if not, we do have lots of options available here at etrailer.com. We also have locking pins that could be purchased to secure your investment a little bit better. This is a nice heavy duty steel construction.
GEN-Y has a great reputation for building very solid, robust products. This is about 80 pounds, so it is definitely gonna be very heavy duty. It's gonna give us a gross towing weight of 10,000 pounds. That's of course the weight of the trailer and the load included. It's gonna give us a tongue weight, a range of between 400 pounds and 1,100 pounds.
The reason for that range is because of our shock absorbing design here, but we'll get into that here in a minute. I do wanna note that they have this pin weight scale here on the bottom, you can see it there. This is going to help you to make sure that that trailer weight is balanced properly, so you can see it, you've got your red, green, and red sticker there. And then right over here is a white mark, that is going to line up with the green portion of that sticker when it's properly balanced, so that you're not exceeding that tongue weight, or having enough weight on there. Like we have now it's pointing at the red because we don't have any weight on there.
So having that tongue weight scale built in is gonna give us a nice reference point to make sure that our trailer is loaded properly. And so the shock absorbing design, the way this functions, it's very similar to a torsion axle, if you're familiar with that. I've got a cutaway design, or a cutaway option here for you, so you can kinda see it a little bit better. So we've got these rubber cords on all four sides of the inner pivoting bars. So as you hit bumps and that sort of thing, your head assembly is going to kinda turn that bar, but those rubber cords are going to absorb a lot of that movement so that it's not being transferred from your trailer up to your vehicle and vice versa. So it's gonna keep everything nice and smooth as you're going down the road. One of the really nice things about this design is that unlike airbags that would require a lot of maintenance, making sure you have enough air pressure in 'em, that sort of thing. This has a lot fewer moving parts that are gonna need to be repaired in the future. And it's also gonna be less maintenance overall, just because once you get it installed, it's gonna be ready to go. You're not gonna have to worry about maintaining those rubber cords. You can see, we do have the grease circs built in here to give us easy access to greasing that up, to make sure it's gonna turn properly, or gonna be well lubricated. Another benefit of this design is obviously our 10 mounting positions, that are going to give us the ability to set up our weight distribution head at the right height so that our trailer is gonna be nice and level. So these three quarter inch diameter holes are spaced an inch and a quarter apart, center to center. So our maximum overall drop from the top inside edge of our receiver tube, down to where our coupler is going to mount onto the hitch ball. It's going to be approximately nine and a half inches max drop. And then we can flip this whole unit over, of course, like I said, it is 80 pounds. So that would be a lot for me to do here just to display. But if you can imagine from them the top of the inside edge of the receiver to the top of where the coupler would sit, it's gonna be about nine and a half inches as well. So that's gonna give you a wide range of height adjustments to make sure that your trailer is gonna be nice and level as you're going down the road. As I said, this does have a nice sturdy steel construction. So it is gonna hold up really well. Then also have this zinc primer and epoxy coat powder coat to resist rust and corrosion. So it is gonna hold up well. GEN-Y builds really solid products. So I'm sure you'll be very happy with this, but I keep in mind that it is 80 pounds. So make sure that your hitch is rated for use with weight distribution and is gonna be able to handle the weight of this unit, plus your head assembly and weight distribution system and the trailers weight as well. This does meet the SAE J684 standard, so it is J684 certified. It is made here in the USA, so you can trust it's made to the high quality standards that we've come to know and trust for products that are made here in the US. I do wanna reiterate, this is a very heavy-duty product, so it is gonna hold up to your weight distribution towing. It's gonna do a good job for you. So that's gonna complete our look for today, and you know I'm Michael with etrailer.com. Thanks for watching..
