Michael: Hi there. I'm Michael with each trailer.com. Today we're going to take a quick look at the replacement OEM bolt lock. This is going to replace the OEM bolt lock for your Extang Encore hard tonneau cover manufactured after 2015. Now if you're not sure if your cover was manufactured after 2015 or not, there should be a white part number sticker on the underside of the cover, usually on the slam latch and that serial number shows when the cover was produced so that it can give you a good idea of if this is going to work for your setup or not. This does have the bolt one key lock technology kind of just like your ordinary Extang Encore so that you don't have to worry about having an additional key for your tonneau cover.
You'll be able to use your ignition key for your vehicle, get it in there and it will memorize the ridges and everything of your key so that you can use both. The key for both the ignition and your tonneau cover lock here. Keep in mind the locks are specific to the manufacturer. So this lock is specifically designed for your Dodge vehicles. The way the manufacturers have the key ridges and everything is proprietary for each one. So this will only work with your Dodge vehicles.
So with the combination of knowing that this is going to work for a Dodge vehicle and our tonneau covers after 2015 we can narrow down that list to the tonneau covers with part numbers that you see on the screen there. So if you have one of those, this is going to work for you. It's going to replace the original core so that you can use a new key. So whether you're getting your tonneau cover secondhand and you need to switch out the core to match your key, or maybe you switched vehicles. The core will only accept one key. So if you do have a different ignition key now, you will need to get a different core to allow you to use the one key for both the ignition and the core.
This is made here in the USA. It's very simple to get installed. I've got it all put together right now, but there's really just three pieces. So you'll put your top, after you remove your original core, you'll put your top cover on top of there. And then underneath your tonneau, you'll slide in a bottom portion that's going to give you your top and bottom.
That's going to have your tonneau in between there and you just take your nut, install it there. You will need to tighten this down using a torque wrench to the specifications in the instructions, but it's pretty simple. That's all you're really going to have to do.And then of course when you insert your key, turn it a couple of times. It's going to memorize those ridges and falls and it's going to allow you to use that key in your tonneau cover. So very simple to get installed, not a whole lot that you're going to need. If you don't already have some, the instructions do call for some loctite to be used. Loctite threadlocker 242. We've got that available for you here at etrailer.com using the part number that you see on the screen there. So I would recommend picking that up if you don't already have some. But overall, I think this is going to be a very handy way of ensuring that you don't have to have a lot of different keys. If you're replacing a lock core on your tonneau cover, this is the way to go. That's going to complete our look at the replacement OEM bolt lock. Thanks for watching.
