Video Transcript for Breaking Down the Hand Winch Cable with Safety Hook 3/16" Diameter x 25' Long

Today we're going to be taking a look at the Dutton-Lainson hand winch cable with the safety hook. This is a flexible 7 x 9 galvanized aircraft cable. It's going to give us a diameter of 3/16 of an inch with an overall length of 25 feet. Here on this end we're going to have the exposed cable end. This is going to be the end that would connect to our winch. On the other end we're going to have the hook.

The hook is made from a forged steel construction, very strong and durable. It's going to feature this spring loaded safety latch to prevent accidental unhooking. Another neat feature I like is here on the inner part of the cable, right where that hook attaches to the loop, it's got a nice steel plate on there. That way our hook can swivel around there without doing any damage or rubbing or causing any friction on the cable itself. This is going to be suitable for use on Dutton-Lainson hand winches with an 1800 pound capacity, for electric winches up to 1500 pounds, and the safe working load limit for all other applications is going to be 840 pounds. Real quick, I just want to take a measurement of the actual hook.

I'll take a measurement of the overall length measuring from this point here up to the very top. You can see that that gives us a measurement pretty close to 4 inches. The opening that we have of the hook . I'm going to do our measurement in the middle. You can see down at the bottom it's going to be more harrow, here at the top it's going to be more narrow, but right there at the widest point, that's going to give us an opening of about 13/16 of an inch.

It's really close to 7/8 of an inch, from this point here to that point there. If we go this direction, inside to the safety latch straight in the middle, it's going to be about 1-1/4 inches. It's going to offer plenty of space in there to hook this around you anchor points or your connection point. That's going to do it for our review of the Dutton-Lainson hand winch cable with the safety hook measuring 3/16 of an inch in diameter and giving us an overall length of 25 feet.

  • Recommended Winch for Left Side Drive Comparable to # DL15002
The Dutton-Lainson Hand Winch with TUFFPLATE Finish, Single Speed - 900 lbs # DL15002 can only have the handle mounted on the right side. If you want a left hand drive, I recommend the Dutton-Lainson Brake Winch with TUFFPLATE Finish - Self-Locking - Left Hand Direct Drive - 1,200 lbs # DL16331. For either application, I recommend the Hand Winch Cable with Safety Hook 3/16" Diameter x 25' Long - 1,800 lbs # DL24043.

  • Winch Cable Length Recommendation for 24 ft Pontoon Boat
A 25 foot long winch cable like the part # FWC3250100 would work great for your setup. This would pretty easily be long enough to get your boat pulled up onto the trailer. This is 3/16 inch diameter. The diameter you need though will be based on your winch. Other diameters we offer are the # DL24100 which is 1/4 inch, part # DL24102 which is 5/16 inch, # DL24047 which is 7/32 inch, # DL24043 which is 3/16 inch.

  • Cable Attachment and Function of the Dutton-Lainson Worm Gear Winch - 1500 lbs # DL11011
To secure a cable on the Dutton-Lainson Worm Gear Winch - 1,500 lbs, # DL11011, you will use a series of loops around the reel and gear. You will not need to use a cable fastener or cable keeper to do this. I have attached a diagram that shows how the cable should be fed through the reel and gear for you to check out. I spoke with my contact at Dutton-Lainson and she assured me that a 3/16 inch diameter cable will work with this winch. I recommend using the Hand Winch Cable - 3/16 Inch...

  • How to Attach Winch Cable to the Dutton-Lainson Hand Winch # DL15002
The cable fastener, # DL24360, should be inserted into one of the holes in the side of the cable drum on the Dutton-Lainson Hand Winch, # DL15002. The packaging for the cable fastener, see attached photo, shows that it should be installed in the slotted hole in the side of the drum, but on the smaller Dutton-Lainson hand winches, DL600A and DL900A, the slot is not large enough for the cable fastener so one of the round holes must be used. I provided a short video showing how the cable...

  • Mounting Hole Spacing and Dimensions on Dutton-Lainson Hand Winch # DL15002
I pulled a sample of the Dutton-Lainson Hand Winch # DL15002 from our stock and took measurements of the mounting surface. The overall dimensions and mounting hole spacing are shown on the attached photo. The overall size of the plate is 3-1/2-inches x 3-3/4-inches. The oval openings measure 7/16-inch x 13/16-inch. The round hole has a diameter of 7/16-inch (not pictured). Center-to-center hole spacings are shown in the photo. This 900-lb-rated winch features an anti-corrosion zinc finish,...

  • Pulley Block Compatible With 3/16" Hand Winch Cable
It sounds like you're looking for a pulley/snatch block to use with the Hand Winch Cable with Safety Hook # DL24043. I recommend using the Bulldog Winch Snatch Block # BDW20005. This is compatible with cables up to 3/8" in diameter so it will work for this particular cable or any other as long as it is no larger than 3/8". It has a 17,000 lb brake strength and 7,000 lb working load limit which is well above the capacity of the cable.

  • How to Make a Worm Gear Winch Feed Wire Quickly
Worm gear winches don't move quickly unfortunately. However, the part # DL11011 that you referenced has a hex drive that will allow you to use a powered rill and a 5/8 inch socket to allow the winch to work much quicker than by hand. This winch is only rated for use with a wire cable like the part # DL24043.

  • Recommendation for a Replacement Boat Winch for a Boat Trailer
Dutton Lainson moved from an 800 pound boat winch and now have a 900 pound winch that I think would work well for you. Take a look at Hand Winch, # DL15002. This is a 900 pound winch with a TUFFPLATE finish that resists corrosion and would be a good choice for marine applications. This winch can be used with either a cable or a strap. For a cable, you can use # DL24044 with fastener # DL24360. Or, if you prefer a strap instead of a cable, you can use # DL24043. I have included a link...

  • Brake Winch Recommendation to Raise and Lower Two 175 Pound Spare Tires on a Rally Chase Truck
The best option for a brake winch and the controlled movement of a load is a worm gear winch # DL11011. This winch has a 1500 pound capacity, will automatically brake when the handle is released, and does not require a minimum amount of weight to operate. Worm gear winches are slow, but this particular one has a unique feature that will allow you to connect a variable speed drill using a 5/8 inch socket to making lowering and raising the load fast and easy. But cranking a winch is good...

  • Worm Gear Winch Recommendation for Controlled In and Release of Load
For a winch that will allow you to control the in and out directions of the cable you would want a worm gear winch like the Dutton Lainson Worm Gear Winch part # DL11011. For a cable to go along with this winch you would want the Winch Cable # DL24043. I attached an FAQ article on winches for you to check out also.

  • Does Dutton Lainson Winch Part # DL15002 Come with Cable or Strap
Actually the Dutton Lainson Winch part # DL15002 that you referenced does not include a strap or a cable. It is just the winch. For a 25 foot long cable we have the part # DL24043 or for a 15 foot long strap we have the part # DL6148.

  • Can the 900 lb Dutton-Lainson Hand Winch be Used for a Pop Up Camper
There really are no limitations as to where you can install the Dutton-Lainson Hand Winch # DL15002 just as long as it isn't a vertical pull. It has a max capacity of 3/16" x 40' when it comes to cable so the best option we have is the 25' Cable # DL24043. I have attached some review videos for you to check out.

  • Using the 3/16 Hand Winch Cable with the Dutton & Lainson Single Speed Hand Winch
If you are planning on using the 3/16 inch Hand Winch Cable, part # DL24043, or any 3/16 inch cable, with the Dutton & Lainson Single Speed 600lb Hand Winch, part # DL14125, you will need a 3/16 inch fastener. I recommend the 3/16 inch Cable Fastener, part # DL24360.

  • Is there a Coated Cable that Works with Dutton Lainson 900 Pound Trailer Winch
Hand winch cable # DL24043 is not coated. We do not have any compatible cables that are coated. The best thing to use would be a winch that takes a strap and not a cable at all. Winch # DL15002 that you referenced can be used with a strap, # DL24291. The winch and strap are made in the USA. A winch can be used in conjunction with pulleys to hoist the deer feeder but you will then need to secure it with chains and detach the winch cable or strap. The winch should not be used to hold anything...

  • Available Types of Electric and Hand Winches
Electric winches can require substantial battery power, but this will vary depending on the actual weight of the load. If you have access to your household AC power and an installation point that is protected from the elements you might prefer to avoid the battery and solar charger entirely with a winch like # DL25707. The long 50-foot cable on this winch might allow you more mounting options. If you find you prefer the simplicity of a non-electric hand winch you can spend a lot less and...
