Hi everyone. Aiden here with etrailer. Today we'll be taking a look at and showing you how to replace the plastic top cap for some of your Dutton-Lainson jacks. Now, it's gonna work for a variety of different fits, if you've got a 6000 series agricultural or industrial series jack, or a 6800 series marine jack, this is going to work for you. Now, if you're not sure what series you have, you just want the replacement cap, you could always measure the very top here and look for an outer diameter of 2 1/4 inches on the top of your jack. If you've got that, then chances are it's gonna be the right fit for you.
Really, all it does is just pop down in place over top, so if yours is damaged or you lost it, then no big deal. You can just pop it right in place and all the inner workings of the gears for the jack are back to being covered up. Now, if yours is damaged and still somewhat in place and you need to find a way to remove it, just grab yourself a flathead screwdriver, the smaller or more narrow, the better, because this is a pretty snug fit. And you can start to work your way in on one of the sides here. And when you do get it in, just give it a twist to the side to help pop it up.
Do that as you travel around the top of the cap and it'll start to rise up. So it's not very intrusive or difficult to get it off. And if you find yourself needing a little more leverage, you can stick the main part of the screwdriver in and start to use that to pry up just a little bit until it releases. Now, if you need to remove this to maybe grease up the inside, do some maintenance, and you lose it, then no worries, you can just get a new one and pop it right back in place. It's going to be the same plastic construction on top and it's gonna keep things all covered up inside.

This cap is the exact replacement part for my jack.
I had to modify the depth of the cap slightly to work for my application (since I am unsure what type of jack I have on this 40+ year old trailer) but it was just as advertised and worked perfectly for what I needed.
