Ask the Experts about this Dutton-Lainson Accessories and Parts

Do you have a question about this Accessories and Part?

  • Are Cable Fasteners Sold Separately from the Worm Gear Hand Winches by Dutton-Lainson
  • The Dutton-Lainson Worm Gear Hand Winch - 1,500 lbs, item # DL10950, is designed only to be used with wire cable. The cable fasteners are sold separately based on what size cable you plan on using. If the cable size you plan on using is 1/4, 9/32 or 5/16 of an inch you would want a Cable Fastener # DL24362. If you plan on using a cable that is 3/16, 7/32 or 1/4 inch you would want a Cable Fastener # DL24361. I attached a page that has all of the wire cables we offer for you to check out.

  • Mounting 1/4 Inch Cable to Hand Winch
  • The Cable Clamp for Pulling and Brake Winches by Dutton-Lainson # DL24350 is compatible with 1/4 inch stainless Steel winch cable like the Hand Winch Cable with Safety Hook 1/4" Diameter x 50' Long - 3,500 lbs # DL24104. You can also use the Cable Fastener for 1/4", 9/32" and 5/16" Cable and Heavy Duty Winches # DL24362 or the Cable Fastener for 3/16", 7/32", and 1/4" Cable and Medium Duty Winches # DL24361 to fit your 1/4 inch cable.

  • Attaching a Wire Rope to Dutton Lainson Worm Gear Winch DL10950 with a Cable Keeper
  • On this particular set up (winch # DL10950 and keeper # DL24362 the cable would not go through the hole in the drum. It would have to stay to the inside. The part of the keeper with the hole in it would be sticking through to the inside with the nut between the outside of the drum and the large gear. So the only thing between the gear and drum is the nut (and washer).

  • Looking For Winch For Jet-Ski Trailer Where Handle Can Be Swapped to Other Side of Winch
  • The lowest capacity hand winch we offer that the handle is easily changeable would be the Dutton-Lainson # DL14527. The folks at Dutton-Lainson have told us that this winch is capable of being modified. The drum, its shaft, the gear shaft and pawl shaft would all need to be removed, and reversed. The gear shaft is held in place by both a nut and an e-clip that would need to be removed. I have labeled these parts in a photo I have edited for you. In other words, some dis-assembly would...

  • How to Release Load or Play Out Cable with Dutton-Lainson Worm Gear Hand Winch # DL10950
  • You are correct, the Dutton-Lainson Worm Gear Hand Winch you referenced, part # DL10950 does not have a freewheel mode. The cable or load stops when you stop cranking. To reverse or lower the load, you would crank the handle in the opposite direction, thus playing out the cable. To remove the line, you would fully reverse the handle to play out all of the cable, and then remove the nut from the cable fastener. Keep in mind that the cable and cable fastener are not included with the winch....

  • Recommended Cable With Hook for Dutton-Lainson Hand Winch # DL15440
  • The correct cable with hook for the Dutton-Lainson Hand Winch # DL15440 is the # DL24104. This is a 50 foot long 1/4 diameter galvanized aircraft cable with safety hook. The cable fastener you will need for this is the # DL24362 which is sold separately from the wire cable. If you prefer the strap the one recommended for this hand winch is # DL24251. This 2 inch wide strap is 20 foot long and comes with the safety hook as well as the bolt to secure it to the winch. I have linked...

  • Parts Recommended to Hang 800 Pound Boat
  • I have a solution for you, and you can use ratchet straps to support your boat once you have it in the air. However, we do not recommend raising or lowering the boat with ratchet straps. The ratchet straps are rated for use as tie-downs, not as lifts. Additionally, there is no safe way to control the speed at which the boat is lowered with the ratchet straps. In order to get your boat into the air, I recommend using a winch like the Dutton-Lainson Worm Gear Hand Winch # DL11011. This...
