What's up, everybody It's AJ with etrailer.com. Today we're going to be checking out this extra heavy-duty winch strap from Dutton-Lainson. Now, when you first set up your winch, you're going to see that they don't always come with the most heavy-duty straps. That's what happened here with this big boat on our trailer. It just didn't hold up, so now we need to replace it. That's where the Dutton-Lainson strap comes in.
It's extra heavy-duty. Let's take a closer look at it.Looking at the straps side-by-side, you can already see a difference, and that's not just because this one's seen better days. You see that it's doubled up better and thicker at the high stress point of the hook and the strap, not to mention the stitching is heavier duty. There just seems to be more of it in that space. This one's spread out, so I think it just didn't hold up over time and started to rip.
That's not going to happen with this one. There's way more stitching involved.Looking at the hooks side-by-side, you see they're about the same size, although this one's zinc plated, so it's not going to end up rusted and corroded like this one did. The strap itself is 20 feet long by 2 inches. It also works with winches up to 3,200 pounds and has a breaking point of 4,800 pounds, which just means when they we're testing it, it seemed to break around 4,800 pounds. That gives you plenty of strength for whatever you're towing.Most winches come with not the most heavy-duty strap installed on it.
You'll have to buy one separately that is more fit for what you're going to use it for. As you can see, this one just definitely didn't hold up to time at all. The snap guard here doesn't stay in place, so if this was down like that and you hit a bump, you're going to come loose, and you see the threads are ripped here. That's not good. That's not going to last very long when you're going down the road.
If the sun's gotten to it and damaged it, it's even ripped in a few places, so it's definitely time to get this one off the winch and install the new one.So I'm going to back out this strap so I can get to the hardware. It looks like when they installed this one, they ran it through the holes here on the side to keep it in place, so I'm going to try and work those out. Another option you have is you could just cut it and move on. We're going to try and get all this old strap out.It's time to add our new one. You got a loop here in the center. I'm going to put the bolt in through this side, run through the center of that strap loop there. Straight to the other side. Now it does come with its own hardware, but it didn't really fit our winch, so we had to use our own. Now we add a nut to the other side, get a few more turns of the wrench just to make sure it's tight and it's good to get it snug, but don't overtighten it. It's time to go ahead and roll up the strap.Let's go ahead and add the hook to the boat, and hold tight. With the strap tightened down, we're ready to go. It was that easy to replace the strap, and we know that this one's going to be more heavy-duty and last a lot longer than the old strap was. That does it for our look at the Dutton-Lainson hand crank winch strap. Hope this helped.

Extra heavy-duty hand winch strap and hook.I believe this thing is strong enough to lift my boat vertically and hold it in air. It appears much higher quality than the original strap on my trailer. At each step, the company was very customer oriented and responsive to my inquiries, and following up on my order.
I used this winch all last summer for my 24' cuddy cabin boat. I am a small woman and I trailer and launch/ load the boat by myself most of the time. This winch has made it possible for me to do it! I like that I can switch gears when I need to, when the boat starts to get heavy I can switch to the low gear and crank it where I need to be without a problem. The quality is great, it is definitely a heavy duty winch. I would absolutely recommend this product. I have enclosed a picture of my truck and boat so you can see what I am using it for.

Great product great price. Easily installed where the old winch was removed. This winch is heavy duty and replaced a factory install that had to be a mis-match. 5,500 lb boat and this winch can handle it fine. My old winch was 1,700 lbs. thanks

I gave the winch strap a 3. It appears to be ok but it looks very thin for a 4800lb rated strap. We will see how it works.
My old strap broke and I needed one quicky to make sure my boat was secure. It was the right part and it was shipped the same day I ordered it. Had it on the trailer in just a few minutes.

Works as designed. Easy installation just need to ensure you wind it tight on installation.
Worked great, no fraying yet after weekly use for a year pulling in a heavy pontoon boat.

The parts have held up well, with proper care. Our use is around salt water, typically parts can get abused by nature. Theyve performed well.

great mechanically, starting to show signs of rust. your zinc coating could be a little heavier and put galvanized hardware with your products they will improve the over all results and i would pay the extra cost,
