Video Transcript for Center Section for Hide-A-Goose Underbed Gooseneck Trailer Hitch Review

Hello, everybody, this is Jeff at etrailer.com. Today, we're gonna take a look at this center section for the Hide-A-Goose Underbed Gooseneck Trailer Hitch, has a 30,000 pound gross towing weight capacity. Now, this heavy-duty hitch head will pair with a custom mounting kit to create a gooseneck trailer hitch for your application. Now, the mounting kits, the custom mounting kits we do sell those separately on our website. They are vehicle specific, so I would recommend to go to our website, use the fit guide, put in your year and model vehicle, and it'll show you the mounting kit that would be needed to install this onto your vehicle. This will give you complete truck bed access when you're not towing.

You can easily remove the ball from the hitch for storage. It does include this 2 5/16 diameter ball, and this can be stored upside down in the bed when it's not in use. Just to show you how to do that, you'll pull out your handle here. And when you do that, it'll automatically go into the unlocked position and hold the pin open, and allows you to take the ball out. The ball you can see has a nice round shank.

When installed in the round sleeve, the sleeve and the ball will have a nice, tighter fit than the square designs. And then to store it when you're not using it, just flip it over, and there's a little handle you can hold onto. And you wanna make sure this slot, there's a slot cut out on this side right here, it goes on this side. And then you just slide it all the way down in there, release the handle, and the pin comes across and locks it into place. Now, it does include this magnetic cover you can see right here that you'll put over that.

And that's to keep any dirt and grime from getting in there and gumming it up, so that'll come included. And then when you're ready to tow, just take off your cover, and you can actually just let it stay on there, it is magnetic you can see. But once you take that off, then just pull out your lever. Now, this lever here, this is in the fender well, so it's a nice convenient fender well access to this handle to disconnect the trailer hitch ball. It's a nice durable handle with a nice easy grip on it.

So again, just push it out, and as you twist it, it'll turn and lock in the open position. And then, again, just pull your ball out, flip it over. Make sure your slot again is on this side. Drop it into place, release it. And now, you're all ready to tow. If you noticed, does have these spring-loaded safety chain hookups that are built in. They will sit flushed in the truck bed. Few installation tips, when this is installed, you will have to drill a 3 1/2 inch diameter hole for the ball opening, four 5/8 inch diameter holes for these safety chain U-bolts in your truck bed. Does come with the mounting hardware right here. The hitch ball is a chrome-plated hitch ball, it does resist rust. And the center section here is a black powder coated steel, helps resist corrosion. Few specs on this, the gross towing weight capacity is 30,000 pounds, vertical load limit of 7,500 pounds, and the ball size of 2 5/16 inch diameter. But again, just to show you, if you pull this and turn it, unlocks it. Take the ball, flip it over. Drop it in the stored position, release the handle, you're ready to go. Put your cover on there, and now, you'll have full truck body access, truck bed access. But that should do it for the review on the center section for the Hide-A-Goose Underbed Gooseneck Trailer Hitch with the 30,000 pound gross towing weight capacity.

Did not fit 2023 F350. Guaranteed to fit, doesn't always fit. etrailer said sorry, send it back. I thought more would have been done to make things right. A lot of time and effort wasted. BTW the Curt hitch is way better than this one

by:

This is my first gooseneck hitch and so far no issues. The install took both myself and my friend about 5 hours on my 2018 F250. You definitely need a second set of hands and it's preferred if one of you did weightlifting cause the hitch plate is HEAVY!! Just make sure when reading the instructions you really look where they notated where the front of the vehicle is cause it can get a little confusing.
One tip that helped us out a lot and saved our arms is before putting in the hitch plate drill the hole for the ball opening, use a jack in the bed with a ratchet strap or some kind of strong strap, put the strap through the hole of theb bed and through the hole of the hitch plate then put a metal bar or something strong that will support the hitch plate. Then take the strap and put it on the jack and jack it up. This will pull the hitch plate up to the bottom of the truck bed and allow you to bolt it in and save your arms from becoming putty.

Great product and it gets used regularly. The quick release is very convenient. My only complaint is that there are no options for an extended gooseneck ball. Similar to the Draw Tite 5" extension. This hitch will not allow you to install a conventional pin to use the draw tite extension as there is a thick piece of metal in the way. The quick release on the ball is the only option.

I couldn't have picked a better hitch for the price! I took it to a local business (Carolina welders, Laurinburg NC) and it took him only an hour to install and it installed perfectly! In two days I had my horse trailer hooked to it and I haven't had an issue since! And when I'm not hauling a trailer I easily flip the ball and I slide my dogbox in! I was skeptic about ordering but I do not regret my decision ANY!!! Love this hitch!

by:

Great product, I watched etrailers videos on installation of the hitch before it arrived and began disassembley of the truck, the video is very helpful in understanding the instructions with the hitch, the hitch arrived early in the day on the arrival date etrailer gave me, so I was able to finish installation that day. Thanks etrailer, Jason

by:

Yes I have had the hitch installed in my truck about a year now and it has done me well. I was pulling a 9 bail hay trailer all last week delivering big round bails and have pulled our equipment trailer and OK Coral also with no problems. Just remember to keep the ball receiver lightly greased so you can turn over your ball eawsly. I love my hitch.

by:

Good hitch. Love the drop and lock ball way more than my old hide-a-goose turnover ball. Installed it myself and only had to unbolt the brake like bracket. Left spare tire and exhaust in place. Put the ball in the center piece and slid it up and had my neighbor hold it by the ball while I put the conicals and nuts on.

by:

Easy install once you get past the kinda confusing drawings. The safety hooks are pretty short, I just have the nuts flush with threads but can't get the hooks under them. I will have to look for longer ones. Took 3 hrs to install with having to remove hard tonneau cover and bed liner and reinstalling and clean up. Thought it would be worse!! The isolation tape they send with the hitch is kind of cheesy, hopefully it works. Was a great price!

by:

Installs very easy thank you

by:

Good hitch easy install just had to loosen the bed bolts to fish the nut plates above the frame other than that pretty straight forward

by:

The product itself seems to be ok, my main problem was with the installation instructions, namely the measurement as to where to drill the hole in the bed of a 2008 Ford F250 crew cab diesel short bed. I first watched and used etrailer.com's video instructions where they installed this same hitch on a 2008 Ford F250 diesel just like mine so I thought it would be pretty accurate. Well it was except for the most important part, the measurement as to where to drill the hole in the bed. On the video it said drill at 47 7/8". I should have double checked the instructions from draw-tite but felt etrailer's video would be correct. It wasn't though. After drilling the hole and realizing it was off I looked at draw-tite's instructions which said drill hole at 46 3/16" so luckily I was able to use the hole saw again to very carefully drill a hole at 46 3/16" only to find out on my truck this was wrong also as it was too short! I was able to make it work by trimming the edges where the two holes met and so now I have an oval hole instead of a circle. I measured the center of the hole after installing it and I should have drilled the hole at around 46 5/8". If I was to do it again I would have installed the plate under the bed and tightened it up and marked on the underside of the bed the center of the hole. Then removed the hitch plate and used a punch or small drill bit to drill up from bottom of bed to mark center of hole. Just make sure you know where the center is before you drill and don't just rely on the measurement given in the instructions. Luckily this was not a new truck with a nice bed and I had a plastic bedliner that covered up my mistake! Probably should have went with the B&W my buddy installed in his truck with no problems!

Very pleased with the simple design.

I
Choose this hitch based on the cross bar and frame plate design. It looked easier to install than some other brands, and it was, a simple painless install.

The cross bars easily slipped over the frame rails and under the pickup bed without a fus.

The cross bars have threaded ends built in (like bolts welded in the corners of the angle steel) that allow you to loosely hang the side brackets off the cross rails while getting everything fitted. (so you don't need 3 hands)

The U-Bolts for the frame rail helps avoid having to drill holes in the frame for additional bolts.

The ball design has good clearances to the pocket so this ball should not be getting rusted in place.

The simple spring loaded pin lock for the ball also has good clearances and just pulls straight in and out of the ball to lock and unlock from the wheel well handle.

Flipping the ball over to "hide away" means the bed can still be free and clear for loading materials.

Cutting the 3.5" hole in the bed was made simple by accurate easy measurement instructions and a readily available hole saw from the hardware store.

The carriage bolt hardware means you don't need a wrench on the backside of the bolt when tightening the nuts.

Great Product, excellent design, easy to install and use.

Hitch seems to be built fairly well as far as the head and rail kit. The side plates for the frame are not even as thick as my frame rail. Didn't like that. Also a major turn off to this hitch, on my truck, a 2001 dodge 2500 short bed, the carriage bolts that hold the head to the rails, the heads hit the bed floor, enough to where the bed does not sit flush on the frame. 4 1 inch holes had to be drilled in the bed to let the bolt heads through. Also used a hare bigger hole saw than 3.5 to give some wiggle room. But the bolts hitting the floor needs to be addressed by draw tite. Wouldn't recommend for a dodge pickup

by:

I installed the hitch on a 2011 F-150 crew cab with 5 1/2 ft bed. Works perfect with no clearance issues between the truck cab and a platform style gooseneck trailer. Well engineered product.

I would recommend using a lift and removing both rear tires and the spare for more working room. I also marked and drilled the hole for the ball from underneath the bed for a perfect fit.

by:

I have bought from etrailer for many years now. Many hitches from a 2005 Toyota highlander hitch and wiring, to a 2012 Chrysler town and country hitch and wiring, brake controller to my most recent one a 2008 dodge ram mega cab gooseneck hitch.
Every part I have bought have fit without any modification. The YouTube videos are specially helpful. I've recieved my shipment a few days ago which was way faster then I expected. Today i woke up ready to install it, I read the instructions and watched the YouTube video went under my truck bed and started working on it.
I did mess up on the hole for the ball but that was my oops. Very satisfied.

by:

I haven’t pulled with it yet, but installation went well and it it a strong and well made item.

by:

Ordered the hide a ball gooseneck hitch I had it in 4 business days with the free shipping, and if that wasn't good enough I found a cheaper priced hitch on another site after I bought it, and etrailer refunded me the difference plus 5% and lowered the price online so that the customers are getting the best bang for the buck with hands down the best customer service I have encountered yet. As far as the hitch goes it comes with plenty of instructions and all the hardware and took a buddy and I 2 hours from start to finish to complete.

Great product, great service

by:

It was super easy to install. I have had no problems at all. I would definitely buy it again.

by:

Hide a Goose gooseneck hitch, great product , great service, great price. This is a great product easy to install and should deliver years of reliable service. E trailer is a great source of information of all sorts pertaining to trailers. I've done business for years with etrailer and have nothing but positive things to say about this great company.

by:

Decent hitch, not the first Draw-Tite product I've used. Designed well, plenty of room for adjustment built into the slots and holes of the parts. It's built heavier than I will ever be able to tow with my '07 Tundra. We're buying a 25 foot fifth wheel camper with a gooseneck adapter. Gooseneck hitches are supposed to be better for driving off road, which is a big plus for me. I have over 1000 feet of rutted gravel road and driveway to get the camper to our little retreat in the woods! I haven't towed the camper yet, but I will add comments when I do!

It would have been easier to install with a lift versus working from a creeper, but it still only took four hours! I'm sure it would have been easier on a new truck as well, not as much rust! The drawing and instructions were good, but could have explained which bolts went where a bit better. I did figure it out after a bit. Worst part was fixing all the other stuff that I found when I rolled under the truck!
Only negative is the magnetic "cap" to keep the dirt out. Ridiculous! It's a refrigerator magnet! Why put that cheap thing in with such a heavy duty piece of equipment? I will figure something out to cover the hitch and plug the hole in the bed.

by:

Easy to install, parts are heavy so be careful. I had a issue installing, but that is because I had air-lift bags on my truck. I removed the Air-lift bags and the install went fine. I will modify the air-lift bag brackets and reinstall them. They do need a better cover than the magnet. It blew off driving down the road.

by:

Nice kit, tough job w/out a lift but can be done, keep in mind the U bolts for breakaway chain attachment are different and s/b installed per the instructions to avoid interference with the fuel tank, etc. Figured it would include electrical kit but was not, likely due to too many configuration options and truck types.

by:

Excellent product, easy to follow directions. Videos was great help. Installers in videos make it seem a simple install. I would say if you haven't installed one before it will most likely take more time than expected. Take your time and follow directions step by step. Some unexpected encounters with my truck was a plastic channel than ran along bottom of wheel wheels on both sides that had wiring running thur them. Had to lower to install fasteners. The cross members have threaded studs on end that are painted. Take a wire brush and remove paint from the studs so nuts will go on easy.

by:

Defiantly you need a lift
Make life
a little easier
All parts and acc pack was complete
Directions easy to understand
Take your time
Like the hide away hitch system
Great investment
For me
