Jeff: Hello everybody. This is Jeff at etrailer.com. Today, we're going to take a look at this Dexter 10-inch left-hand electric trailer brake assembly for 3000-pound axles. And this fits the four-bolt brake mounting flange. Now, electric brakes are easier to install. They offer more user control than hydraulic brakes.
Basically, they require only an electric brake controller, which we do sell separate on our website. You don't have to have any actuator hydraulic lines necessary for electric brakes. Now, this part will include the 10-inch by 1.5-inch driver's side electric trailer brake assembly. If you notice the brake shoes, they are lined with an automotive-grade friction material, and that friction material is fully bonded to the shoe. It's not riveted, so it gives a lot longer life, more braking torque.
Now, this is a manual adjustment brake, so it will require periodic adjustment. Right down here is the adjustment wheel that you would turn to adjust your brakes in or out.The other nice thing is they do include these adjuster plugs, which will cover the access holes. Those access holes are where you'll put your screwdriver or break tool through to adjust your brakes. They have these plugs that are included to help keep dirt and grime out of the assemblies and off your brake shoes. If you notice they have the four bolts back here.
It fits a four-bolt brake mounting flange bolt pattern. Does include the four nuts for the mounting hardware. This part is made in the USA and I want to give you dimensions. When they call it a 10-inch, that's the diameter measured from this shoe to this shoe. So, if we take our ruler edge to edge, there's your 10-inch diameter.
The width is 1.5 and that's the width of the pad on the shoe. So, there's your 1.5 width. Weight capacity on this assembly is 1500 pounds. Fits an axle of 3000 pounds, so when one of these is used on one side and one on the other side, it'll give you your axle rating of 3000 pounds.Does require the use of 10-inch drums. This does use a wheel size of 13-inch to 15-inch, and these are electric brakes. If you look at the back of the assembly, you'll see these two green wires. These do need to be connected. One goes to the brake feed. One goes to the ground. They're both the same color, so either wire can be used for either function. And this is described as a left-hand assembly, which is the driver's side assembly. When you get a new brake assembly, it'll have a sticker on it that'll notify you that it is the left side, but if that sticker wasn't there to easiest way to tell on what side your brake would go on is you look at the length of the pad on the shoes.So, the pad on this shoe goes from here to here. The pad on this one goes all the way from here to here. This is the longer pad. This is the shorter pad. The shorter pad is your primary shoe, and when it's installed, it will always face the front of the trailer. So, that's going to let you know that this is the left side or driver's side assembly. But that should do it for the review on the Dexter 10-inch left-hand electric trailer brake assembly for 3000-pound axles, and this fits the four-bolt brake mounting flange.

Suppose you have grease everywhere, shoes, and backplate. It is the easiest and fastest way to start fresh: four nuts to remove and two wires to connect.
It is hard to find the smaller shoe size alone. These were easier to find.

For just a few bucks more than the pads… replaced the whole assembly… four bolts & two wires. No messing with all the brake dust, difficult springs, and scraped knuckles. Much easier and it looks like new axles were put under the trailer.
