Video Transcript for Dexter Axle Trailer Brakes BP15-085 Review

Speaker 1: Today, we're going to take a look at the Dexter metal brake dust shield. This is a one-piece, 7-bolt backing plate, which you'll install behind your brake assembly. It's designed to help keep road debris and dust off your brake assemblies. It helps inhibit wear. It's designed for the 9,000/10,000 pound hydraulic or electric general duty brake assemblies. It also is even stamped on the shield, the brake assembly size it fits.

It says 12 1/4" by 3 3/8". This part is for a quantity of one shield. That should do it for the review on the Dexter metal brake dust shield.

  • Backing Plate for Electric Brakes on 10k Axles
The only backing plate we have that would work with a 10k axle is the # BP15-085. This is designed for 9,000-10,000 lb electric brake assemblies. We don't have anything for 12k. The backing plate fits the Dexter # 23-450-451. However, this uses a 7-bolt brake flange pattern. I recommend double checking your bolt pattern to make sure it is actually 6. There are some older obsolete axles that have this bolt pattern but there are no longer replacement brakes that would match. If that is...

  • How to Determine If 12-1/4" Electric Brake Assembly is Left-Hand or Right-Hand
The photo you sent in is of the Brake Dust Shield # BP15-085 which fits both the Left-Hand # 23-450 and Right-Hand # 23-451 Dexter Axle 12-1/4" electric brake assemblies. If these are installed on your 10K axle and you're needing to make sure the axle is mounted in the correct orientation then you should be able to determine which side is which depending on where the wiring is coming from and how the brake adjuster is oriented from the back side of the brake assembly.
