Today we're going to take a look at the Dexter 12 and 1/4 inch by 4 inch Driver Side Forward Self Adjust Hydraulic Brake Assembly with a 10,000 pound capacity. Now this hydraulic drum brake assembly's designed for use with surge type trailer brake actuators. Is it the dual plunger design which will deliver the same amount of braking when driving either forward or in reverse. The size on this is 12 and 1/4 by 4 inch, it's a driver's side hydraulic trailer brake assembly. The size, when we say the size, that's actually the 12 and 1/4 would be measured straight across from the pad to the other end of the pad. You can see 12 and 1/4 inches.

The 4 inches would actually be the width of the pad, so you can see edge to edge right at 4 inches. This is the left hand driver's side and the way you can tell that now on a new assembly you usually have a sticker that'll tell you left hand or right hand. If you didn't have the sticker on there the easiest way to tell is you look at the length of the shoe pad. This one you can see goes from here to here and this one goes all the way from here all the way to here, this is a longer pad. This one's the shorter pad, the shorter pad is your primary shoe so that would go this way and it always faces towards the front of the trailer. That would determine if this is the driver's side brake assembly, that's the easiest way to tell. Now the friction material on the pad is fully bonded, it's not riveted to the shoes, gives you a lot longer life, more braking torque.

Now this is a forward self adjust brake, you can see the cable goes around a pulley to the level here. Basically it will not require any periodic manual adjustment like standard brakes. After you install this you make your initial adjustment and then they will self adjust as you go forward. Now this is designed to fit on the 7 bolt brake mounting flange. If I turn it over you can see 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7.

The mounting hardware is not included, that is sold separately on our website. Now this assembly is certified by USSAE standards. Again the dimensions on this is 12 and 1/4 by 4 inches. The weight rating on this assembly is 5,000 pounds so when this one is used with the other assembly on the other side to meet your axle rating of 10,000 pounds. Again it's a left hand driver side and this does use the 12 and 1/4 inch brake drops.
