Video Transcript for Dexter Axle Trailer Suspension - Leaf Spring Suspension - K71-385-00 Review

Today we're going to be taking a look at the Dexter trailer springs over-under conversion kit. This conversion kit is designed to fit 3 inch diameter axles. It's going to allow you to move the the trailer loose springs to the top of the axle without having to change the correct orientation of the axle. This is going to help with leveling your trailer. It's going to help with wheel well clearance. It also adds some height to prevent dragging, dipping, and bottoming out.

One kit is going to come with enough components for one axle, so one kit per axle. This is designed for use with double eye springs only. The unit is going to include 2 spring seats. These are going to sit on top of your axle. It's going to come with 8 nuts. You're going to get 4 U bolts, 2 tie down plates.

The tie down plates are going to sit on top of your loose springs once you have them moved to the top of the axle. It does have all the holes in it, that way the U bolts can wrap around the axle and come up through the plate. Then, you would secure it by installing the included nuts. It's going to come with the spacer nuts. These are going to allow the set up to install level.

Basically, you would have 1 spring seat on top of the axle, then your old spring seat would still be under the axle. The spacer nut is going to fill the gap between the 2 spring seats, so they thread on to the bolts that are welded on to your new seats right here. Again, it's going to fill the gap between the 2 spring seats. You would place this on until it makes contact with the bottom spring seat. Then, what you would need to do, which is highly recommended from the manufacturer is you would tack weld this to the axle to prevent the axle from slipping.

Then, you can finish the tightening process or make any minimal adjustments simply by using a wrench. Everything that you see here on the table is included. It's going to come with detailed installation instructions as well to help walk you through the installation process step by step. It is a bot on installation with some recommended tack welding. Overall, it's a nice unit. We're looking at all steel components, so nice, strong, durable design. Again, this kit is designed to allow you to move the trailer loose springs to the top of the axle without having to change the correct orientation of the axle. Again, it's going to help level the trailer. It's going to help gain some extra wheel well clearance, and it's going to help add some clearance to prevent those situations where you may be dragging, dipping, or bottoming out. That's going to do it for today's look at the Dexter trailer springs over-under conversion kit.

Very happy with the product. Trailer toes so much better not that its level with my truck. The extra clearance helps a lot to when towing off-road to the remoter camp spots we like .

Works as advertised After all is said and done it is still recommended To tack weld the spring pad in place. This defeats 90% of the do-it-your self. Easier to remove axle and fit/weld new spring pads for perfect alignment. 306760

This over-under kit made it extremely easy to move the axles on my Camper. The spring seats with the adjusting nuts made it easy to keep them aligned for welding. I reused my old tie plates because of my shocks I uses a price of 3x3x1/4 angle to bolt the shock to the tie plate. I had read that some people had problems if the had shocks. This gave my camper the extra ground clearance I needed. 677444

I have a 99 cummins with 35s and a 5 inch lift. My 5th wheel now sits level and I even raised the king pin up another hole. I'd definitely buy this again 252516

Kit arrived missing all but 2 of the ubolt nuts. No biggie, had some on hand. Went to install ubolts and they were too short. Bought new ones. Went to use top plate and it was too narrow. Had to make new ones. Only thing I used was the axle perches... Which you can buy anywhere. Total waste of money. Make your own kit like I ended up doing. 225292

Used two kits on a 10k equipment trailer, with 2, 6k lbs axles. The trailer is an Appalachian 16ft with drop down axles and scrapes coming in and out of my driveway badly. It’s used from equipment hauling to mulch and stone. I had to reuse the old plates. The ones provided were’nt wide enough to accommodate the springs by about 1/4- 1/2inch, although they seemed slightly more robust. I also added washers to the u-bolt nuts. Otherwise I would’ve rated it a 5. I followed the instructions and tack welded the new spring seats in place. Each trailer is different, so as a general kit, this worked very well and I would recommend it. This one actually gave me more clearance than I wanted. I didn’t actually measure spring seat to spring, but I estimate on a 3 inch axle it gave me 5-6 inches of lift. All said and done I feel comfortable that it will safely handle a 10k lbs load. 540073

Received the package on Friday afternoon. Reviewed the instructions and postings @ E-Trailer. Pulled the trailer up in front of the house at 0930 Saturday morning and drove it away about 4pm. The biggest time killeer was as others have mentioned getting the 11,000 pound trailer up high enough and safe enough to do the job. Thanks for checking up on me. 135664

If you find you've bought a trailer from someone and found you didn't look at it close enough before you bought it and find the axels are upside down, this is a great fix. Nice kit at a good price and fast shipping. Thanks etrailer. 347429

Product works perfectly and exactly as advertised. The only reason I didn’t give five stars is because the u-bolts aren’t very stout. In fact my factory ones were quite a bit larger. 696696

etrailer has always done well by me. I used the kit to flip my axles. So 2 kits. Worked well but I did tack weld them like the kit recommended. Raised the trailer 5 or 6 inches so it doesn’t scrape the driveway up any more. No difference in handling when I am towing. I did have to re set up my hitch on the truck. Hardest part was jacking up the camper and dragging the axles out in the yard. 675119

by:

I used two sets of these on a tandem axle utility trailer that I'm rebuilding. The previous owner had flipped the axles using the original spring seats which made the axle and brakes upside down. These worked well for reinstalling the axles correctly. The only problem that I had with these is one stud welded to each spring seat appeared to be closer to the axle then the other. The axle would contact the long nut on that side and prevent it from turning unless you installed the spring seat with the nut fairly close to its final position. I had wanted to install a jam nut behind the long nut to prevent it from backing off but the axle interference issue prevented that. I'll find another way to lock the long nuts from backing off. The set does have good quality components and makes it easy to get your axle position correct. I followed the recommendation in the instructions and tack welded the the spring seats to the axle. 673813

We have a 2 inch lift kit you can install on your 2018 Forest River Wildcat 30gt which will help greatly with the nose high situation you have now. For that you'd want the # LC407131. This basically attaches to the hangers of the suspension and spaces out the connection between them and the suspension by an additional 2 inches.

This will raise your trailer at each axle by the diameter of the axle plus the spring stack height without changing anything else on your trailer. This is often referred to as flipping your axles.
