Video Transcript for Dexter Axle Tires and Wheels 95188 Review

Today we're going to review part number 95188. This is the Dexter Flange Wheel Nut in a 5/8 by 18" size. This is commonly used on the hub-piloted dual trailer wheels. It is designed to fit on the 5/8" wheel bolts. I just want to show you an example here as a hub-piloted dual wheel. When I say hub-pilot, it means it centers on the center pilot hole.

You can tell a hub-piloted wheel, because the lug holes will not have any chamfer or bevel to them. There will just be a hole drilled through. That's why the flange nut is required. This 5/8" flange nut is what would be used to hold the dual wheel to the axle. That should do it for the review on part number 95188.

  • What is the Correct Lug Nut to Use with a Wheel Retaining Ring on Dual Wheel Axles
As long as your dual wheel has a flat surface where the Flange Wheel Nut # 95188 would rest against, like what the Dexstar Dual Wheel # AM20790 has, then you would use this flange wheel nut in the place of a nut with a 90 degree cone. Attached is a review video of the flange wheel nut for you to check out. In the video we pull a wheel out to demonstrate the flat surface area the nut would install on. If you are using a wheel retaining ring, like the part # 33-52-1, then you would still...

  • Can Trailer With 10,000 lb Axles Switch from 16-1/2 to 17-1/2 Inch Wheels and Tires
Yes, you can switch from 16-1/2 inch to 17-1/2 inch wheels and tires on your equipment trailer with 10,000 lb axles. You just need to make sure the wheels have the same bolt pattern and work with the wheel bolts size of your hub and you're good to go. For example, the Provider 215/75R17.5 Radial Tire with 17-1/2" White Mod Wheel # TTWA215H-175WM has a 4,805 lb capacity, an 8 on 6-1/2" bolt pattern and needs a hub with 5/8" wheel bolts. • Can Wheel Center Pilot Hole Be Larger than Hub Bore on 205/75-14 Trailer Tire
As long as your trailer wheel is lug centric, the hub bore being smaller than the wheel's pilot hole is not an issue. The majority of trailer wheels, like the one on # AM32161 are lug centric - they are centered by the wheel studs, once the lug nuts are torqued to specs. On the other hand, the less common hub centric wheel uses the center bore (pilot hole) of the wheel to center itself on the hub.
