Video Transcript for Dexter Axle Tires and Wheels 95188 Review

Today we're going to review part number 95188. This is the Dexter Flange Wheel Nut in a 5/8 by 18" size. This is commonly used on the hub-piloted dual trailer wheels. It is designed to fit on the 5/8" wheel bolts. I just want to show you an example here as a hub-piloted dual wheel. When I say hub-pilot, it means it centers on the center pilot hole.

You can tell a hub-piloted wheel, because the lug holes will not have any chamfer or bevel to them. There will just be a hole drilled through. That's why the flange nut is required. This 5/8" flange nut is what would be used to hold the dual wheel to the axle. That should do it for the review on part number 95188.

  • Difference Between Dexstar Dual Wheel Part # AM20783 and Lionshead Steel Dual Wheel Part # LHHA420
  • The Dexstar Dual Wheel part # AM20783 and the Lionshead Steel Dual Wheel part # LHHA420 are two very similar wheels with a few key differences. They are both 16" diameter x 6" wide wheels with a 8 on 6-1/2" lug pattern. However, the Lionshead wheel has a 3,500 lb weight capacity whereas the Dexstar wheel only has a 3,100 lb weight capacity. Another noticeable difference is that the Dexstar wheel is made in the U.S.A. and the Lionshead wheel is not. In order to install either wheel you will...

  • What is the Correct Lug Nut to Use with a Wheel Retaining Ring on Dual Wheel Axles
  • As long as your dual wheel has a flat surface where the Flange Wheel Nut # 95188 would rest against, like what the Dexstar Dual Wheel # AM20790 has, then you would use this flange wheel nut in the place of a nut with a 90 degree cone. Attached is a review video of the flange wheel nut for you to check out. In the video we pull a wheel out to demonstrate the flat surface area the nut would install on. If you are using a wheel retaining ring, like the part # 33-52-1, then you would still...

  • Rotating Flange vs Non-Rotating Lug Nuts
  • I spoke with one of my contacts at Taskmaster. I was advised that wheels like the 17-1/2 inch Taskmaster Steel Dual Wheel # 1750275WD4 can use any lug nut on them as long as they are flanged.

  • Correct Lug Nuts for the Taskmaster Steel Dual Wheel # 1750275WD4
  • The 17-1/2 inch Taskmaster Steel Dual Wheel # 1750275WD4 requires the use of a 5/8 by 18 lug nut that is flanged. This is found as part # 95188 on our site. The part # 6-118 that you referenced is designed for use on semi trucks with 22.5 and 24.5 inch wheels and has metric measurements so it may not fit as well depending on your mounting bolt size.

  • Trailer Wheel Recommendation for Car Hauler that is 17.5 inch Diameter for High Capacity Towing
  • For the amount of weight you are towing and the mileage you are putting on your trailer you are going to want to go to the larger 17.5 wheel size. The part # A235J-8H19 has a 6,005-lb max load at 127 psi. You'd need to have a hub piloted style hub that uses flange wheel nuts like the part # 95188 and has a bolt pattern of 8 on 6-1/2 inches.

  • Dimensions of Lug Holes in Dexstar Dual Wheel with Offset AM20730
  • The wheel stud (lug) holes in the Dexstar Dual Wheel with Offset # AM20730 are non-chamfered holes that accept a 5/8-inch stud diameter. I went to our warehouse with my trusty digital caliper to measure the holes in this item. I checked several holes and their size ranged from 0.660 to 0.665-inches. This wheel mounts with 5/8-inch flange nuts # 95188.

  • Installation of Hub-Piloted Wheel and Tire Assembly
  • Installing a hub-piloted wheel such as the Provider 215/75R17.5 Radial Tire w/ 17-1/2" Solid Center Wheel # TTWA215H-8H19 will simply require the use of Flange Wheel Nut # 95188. This wheel has an 8 on 6-1/2" bolt pattern and installs to a hub's lug bolts; you put it on and then secure it with the aforementioned 5/8" Wheel Nuts. Using a 1-1/8" socket will work with these nuts. I've added links to video reviews of both these parts for you to check out.

  • Spare Tire for Big Tex 16 ET Trailer
  • Based on my research a Big Tex 16ET trailer uses a 17.5" x 6.75" wheel with an 8-bolt lug pattern and uses ST215/75R17.5 load range H tires. The Provider 215/75R17.5 Radial Tire w/ 17-1/2" Silver Mod Wheel # A215H-8H08 you referenced is a 17-1/2" x 6-3/4" wheel which has an 8 on 6-1/2" bolt pattern and has 215/75R17.5 load range H tires, so this wheel and tire combo will work for you so long as you are certain your Big Tex has that bolt pattern (if you are unsure you can take a look...

  • Can the Lionshead Steel Dual Wheel # LHHA420 be Used on a 1976 Barth Motorhome with Alignment Ring
  • The Lionshead Steel Dual Wheel # LHHA420 is an excellent option for a replacement wheel on your 1976 Barth Motorhome. This wheel has a 5-1/2" offset and is hub piloted which means that it centers on the hub and not the lugs. For this application you need a flange wheel nut like part # 95188. What it looks like that alignment rings does it change the wheel from being hub piloted to lug piloted meaning that it centers on the lugs. This wheel has a 4.77" pilot diameter so if it doesn't...

  • With the Taskmaster Steel Dual Trailer Wheel # TTW660865SDX2C Taskmaster requires the use of flange nuts in the size of 5/8"-18 like part # 95188. I can't recommend an acorn style of nut.

  • Will 4.75 Pilot Hole Fit with 4.75 Hub for the Dexstar Dual Wheel with Offset # AM20783
  • Generally if the hub has studs on it then it is stud piloted but if you secure the wheel to the hub using bolts then it is hub piloted. Since you are using dual wheels it changes things a little bit. The Dexstar Dual Wheel with Offset # AM20783 that you referenced is designed to fit on a dual wheel setup that is hub piloted. This means that the studs come through the back side of the hub and extend through both wheels and you use a 5/8" flange nut, like part # 95188, to secure it. Hub...

  • Recommended Trailer Wheel Compatible with 2015/75R-17.5 Tires
  • The Taskmaster Steel Modular Trailer Wheel # 660865SM1L will not work with your Goodyear Tires because it is the incorrect size. This wheel is 16 inches and your tires call for a 17.5 inch wheel. For that similar look your will instead need the Taskmaster Modular Wheel w/ +0.08 Offset - 17-1/2" x 6-3/4" Rim # LT589DMPSX. • If you are looking for lug nuts for the 16" Taskmaster Steel Dual Trailer Wheel # TTW660865SDX1C that you referenced then you need the 5/8" Flange Wheel Nut # 95188. For a standard 16" wheel like the Taskmaster Steel Modular Trailer Wheel # 660865SM1L you would need a 60 degree coned lug nut like part # CE11050. For a vehicle you may need different lug nuts as trailers can sometimes use different lug nut sizes than passenger vehicles.
