I bought replacements for all four wheels, even though only one of the originals was broken. I have only replaced the one that was broken, holding the others in reserve. That said, I am very happy with the one I installed. As with any items I have purchased from etrailer.com, I am happy with the quality of the products, the speed with which those products arrive, the cost of the products, and the convenience of purchasing from them. I will continue to purchase from this company and tell my friends of their products. Thank you. Bob

My 40' 5th wheel came with Dexter axles & manual adjust brakes. They were a constant pain to get adjusted evenly and so they didn't overheat. These self-adjusting brakes are an easy upgrade. No more uneven brakes, even when applied hard. If I get another trailer with manual adjust brakes I will upgrade to these first thing. The best upgrade I've done on my 5th wheel in the past 5 years.

I must tell you, my fellow etrailer shoppers and handi-man repair individuals that approx. 1 yr. ago I purchased 4- Dexter Nev-R-Adjust Electric Trailer Brake replacement assembies for my Big Horn 36ft. 5th wheel from etrailer and had the pleasure to be connected to customer service Rep. Phyllis L.. Phyllis went out of her way to make sure that I would receive the correct parts needed to get me on my way to our snowbird location 2200 miles away from home! The Dexter trailer brake assemblies were very easy to install and the initial adjustment was simple. 5000 miles later they are working very well. Thanks etrailer , Phyllis L.

Installation was easy and provided improved braking over original brake assemblies. Initial adjustment was required but once the initial seating was completed the brakes worked great.

Troy, the service rep that I dealt with on my most recent order from etrailer.com, did a fantastic job helping me identify the exact parts I needed to replace the wheel bearings and brake assemblies on my 40 foot Big Horn 5th Wheel. I believe the prices were very reasonable and the service was faster than I expected. Thanks Troy, and I'll definitely recommend etrailer.com as a super place to get your trailer repair parts and accessories.

Definitely could have been packaged so the brake assemblies were not contacting each other during shipment. They were not damaged, but some packing material between the assemblies is preferred. These are direct replacements/upgrades for my 2013 Fuzion 2 axle 5th Wheel 12x2 electric brakes. Dexter makes quality products and these are of their usual top quality! Highly recommend these as a replacement/upgrade because stopping is a wonderful thing!

I ordered a set of brake assemblies for a dual axle 14K # trailer on Thursday with expected delivery on late Monday or Tuesday & they were delivered 2 pm Saturday. I was amazed at the prompt service with parts well packed in 2 boxes. Now-a-days when money is tight we order online & take a chance on anything to save a dollar....the biggest surprise....Made in USA...Thank you so much for supporting American Industry.... 2nd time ordering from etrailer & same great service.

Fit was very good, with one small problem. On the left side the self adjust cable rubs the wires for the brake magnet. I worried that the cable sawing thru the wires and shorting to ground. So I took the wire keeper from the out side of the backing plate and move it to the inside and tied the wire away from the cable. On the out side I zip tied the wire to the axel.

The trailer brake assembly came in as expected, it bolted on and has been working for a year. Purchasing a complete assembly is the best way to go.

Bought these Dexter because I wanted to replace unknown manufacturer of OEM brakes on newer fifth wheel. This product is "Made in USA" and quality is very good. My only complaint is that the rims of all four backing plates had severe scratches in the black paint and I repainted them before installation to reduce rusting. They got some rough handling somewhere. The shipping package was not damaged and each plate was wrapped in brown paper.

Replacement for 6000 lbs. original equipment brakes. Hoping for more stopping power as I usually tow near the limit of the trailer. Installation was easy and straight-forward. • How to Convert 7k Surge Brake Axles to Electric Brakes
You can pretty easily convert a trailer from surge brakes to electric brakes. It basically will require you to remove all of the hydraulic lines, lock out the actuator (or replace it), remove the hubs to replace the assemblies with electric units, and then wire up the assemblies. I attached a help article that will walk you through this entire process. For 7k rated Dexter brake assemblies you would want the part # 23-465 for the right hand side and part # 23-464 for the left hand side. For...

  • Can Electric Trailer Brakes for 7,000 Pound Axles be Used on a 4,500 Pound Trailer
You might be able to use 7K brakes on your trailer provided that the drums used are large enough and that the mounting pattern for the brake assemblies matches the pattern on the brake mounting flanges on the axles. Brakes for 7K axles are going to be 12x2 inches and have a 5-bolt mounting pattern. You will likely find though that the brakes will be overly aggressive on lighter trailers. Yes, the brake shoes and magnets are available as replacement parts for 12 inch Nev-R-Adjust brake assembly # 23-464. Some brake assemblies have expensive replacement parts and on those it makes more sense to replace the whole assembly. For replacement shoes, left hand side use # K71-675 and for the right use # K71-676. The magnet is # BP01-225. The Dexter 6K and 7K axles are very similar to each other, so it can be difficult to determine their capacity just by looks. Dexter axles typically have a specs plate near the center of the axle, but there is a chance that it could have come off. As long as the brake assemblies you are replacing are 12x2, you can certainly use the Nev-R-Adjust brake assemblies. The brake assembly and the bearing system you are using would be unrelated, so there is no reason why you could not use the Nev-R-Adjust assembly. There is also no reason why you could not upgrade to the 7000 lb capacity assembly like the # 23-464 and # 23-465. The brake shoes will be better and the magnet will be a bit stronger.
