Cotter pins, they are what they are. These are the right size and impossible to find in my neck of the woods. I like that they are just the right size since most stores go from 1-1/2" long straight up to 2" long. I could not find 1-3/4" long cotter pins anywhere. etrailer has them for low enough price that I stocked up so that I always have enough on hand. 92212

Cotter pins have held up fine they are the exact right size and they are still in great shape when I repacked bearings the following year.

The Curt Trailer Hitch Receiver arrived, took about a week with free shipping. It was well packaged and the other items (Cotter Pin, 1/8" x 1-3/4" - 165649, Mounting Bracket 4-Pole Flat – 18144, 4-Pole Trailer Connector Cover – 20112, and Trailer Idler Hub Assembly for 3,500-lb E-Z Lube Axles - 5 on 5 - Pre-Greased - 84550UC1-EZ) in my order which arrived without any issues. I am an avid shopper online, always looking for the best deal not only on price but also total cost with shipping. This is not my first etrailer.com order, and most likely will not be my last. The hitch receiver was well made and has a good paint job. It fit my 2003 Toyota Tacoma snugly, however, I was able to mount it by myself in approximately a little more than an hour. The stock bumper had a towing capacity of 3,500 lbs., however it always had me worried since it is a 17-year old bumper with a few dents from previous owners. Now I do not have to worry about it and have a great place to connect the safety chains without having to get under my truck every time I connect to a trailer to secure it correctly. Read, who needs to read with a great installation video on etrailer.com; although the instructions were easy to read and refer to if I had any questions. After installation, the hitch receiver looked cleaner, sharper than the rest of my truck, which forced me to wash my truck! 779230

Once again, I am so pleased with etrailer. I have purchased quite a lot in the last 6 years including wheels, tires, accessories. This most recent one is for a full set of electric brakes for my 27 foot RV trailer. Drums, shoes, magnets. etrailer does a thorough job of detailing the parts, model numbers, etc. If you pay attention to their instructions when ordering you will have no problem. Items arrive quickly and in good packaging. They are very good with follow up but I have not needed corrective action on any orders. The instructions that arrived with the items are important. Read them. Notably after you install these electric brakes (Dexter refits) you need to burn them in gently. At first the friction between the magnets, drum and shoes will be slight. A dozen controlled braking exercises and the braking performance will be excellent. Thanks again. 725528

Ask the Experts about this Dexter Axle Accessories and Parts

  • Should There Be a Washer on Trailer Spindle Between Spindle Nut and Outer Bearing
There really should be a flat washer between the outer bearing of your hub and the nut that holds it on. The washer protects the back side of the bearing from the edges and points on the back side of the spindle nut. The Washer For 1 inch Spindle, # SW1000, is typically used on spindles that have a castle nut, like # 165686, and a cotter pin, # 165649. A D washer, # 5-23, would be used on a spindle that has a flat side and uses the same castle nut and cotter pin setup. A Tongue...

  • Torque Specs for Axle Spindle Nut, Suspension Hanger Bolts, and Lug Nuts for Trailer
It looks like you might be asking about a few different torque specs so I'll address all of them separately. For a trailer axle spindle nut like part # 165686 you will need to run the spindle nut down until there is no more side-to-side play in the hub and then back it off to the next notch so you can secure the cotter pin, like part # 165649, through the spindle. When it comes to hanger bolts like the Redline # 166081 there isn't a specific torque rating either as you just need to...

Obviously, you will need bearing # LM67048 and matching race # LM67010, along with bearing # L44649 and matching race # L44610. For a grease seal you need # 58846, along with grease cap # 21-41-1 and cotter pin # 165649.

  • Recommended Spindle Nut and Washer To Use With Bearing Kit for #84 Spindles
If you have Dexter EZ-Lube Axles, the Spindle Nut Kit for EZ Lube Axles part # RG05-100 is what you need most likely. Otherwise, the Trailer Spindle Nut 1" part # 165686 along with the Cotter Pin part # 165649 is likely all you need. The Bearing Kit for #84 Spindles part # BK2-100 does come with a tang washer already.

  • Where Does Flat Washer Go
I was unable to find an order number so I'm not certain exactly what you are referring to, but in general a flat washer such as Washer For 1" Spindle # SW1000 will go between the outer bearing of your hub and the nut that holds it on, which essentially works to protect the bearing. These washers are used on spindles with a spindle nut such as Spindle Nut 1" # 165686 and Cotter Pin # 165649.

  • Replacement Spindle Washer, Castle Nut and Cotter Pin for Dexter Spindle
The linked page displays all the trailer spindles we offer and specs including weight capacity and thread diameter. All spindles we offer have a 1-inch-diameter threaded portion that accepts a spindle washer like # SW1000 and a castle nut like # 165686. For a cotter pin you can use # 165649.

  • Spindle Nut Recommendation for a 3,500 lb Axle
Since you have a 3,500 lb axle most likely the diameter of the threaded portion of the spindle is 1 inch. You will need to verify that. And since the spindle has a hole in it for a cotter pin you would need a castle nut. For that I would recommend the Trailer Spindle Nut # 165686. For a compatible cotter pin I would recommend the Cotter Pin part # 165649. The Spindle Nut Kit # RG05-100 that you referenced is for a different style spindle so I would not recommend it for you.

The 10-19 is very close, with an ID of 1.719 inches, but it's not close enough to be an acceptable substitute. Boat trailer manufacturers are well known for using oddball or proprietary parts. There are several types of spindle washers available depending on the spindle configuration on your trailer. You will also have to install the seal in the back side of the hub once the inner bearing is greased and installed. The # L68149 bearing you mentioned is most commonly used with the # L44649 outer bearing, but it is sometimes used with the # LM67048 outer bearing, as well. If you can't read the reference number of your outer inner bearing, you can always use a digital caliper to measure the diameter of the spindle where that bearing rides. If that diameter is abut 1.06, you'll need the L44649 bearing. If the diameter you get is about 1.25 inches, you'll need the # LM67048. The # BK2-100 bearing...

  • What is the Torque Rating for an Equalizer Bolt
Equalizer bolts, like the TruRyde Wet Equalizer Bolt, # TRFA71063, should be torqued to yield. Equalizer bolts are not given a specific torque rating because they should allow some movement of the equalizer. If they are torqued down too tight, the equalizer will have difficulty moving and that could bind up your trailers suspension. Simply tighten the bolts down until they are tight, but still allow the equalizer to move. Keep in mind, the cotter pin is not included with this bolt....

We recommend tightening until the nut stops without added force and then backing it off one notch to fit the castle nut. For a compatible cotter pin I would recommend the Cotter Pin part # 165649. People use channel locks typically for installation and removal of these castle nuts since they don't really get torqued down and the length of the spindle prevents most standard sockets from being easily used.
