Today we're going to take a look at the Demco Galvanized 12 Inch Marine Brake Assembly, part number 23511. This is a 12x2 galvanized hydraulic brake assembly. It's referred to as a 12x2 due to its dimensions which is from here to here is 12 inches and the width of the break shoe is two inches.It has galvanized backing plates, stainless steel spring hardware plated wheel cylinders, riveted marine brake shoes and this also works great on non-marine applications as well. It has a weight capacity of 6,000 pounds per pair or obviously 3,000 pounds for each assembly. This fits on your left hand side of your trailer, the driver's side. It says the word "left" right here but another way to tell is the short shoe always faces to the front of the trailer.It is a single servo which means it has a single plunger coming from the wheel cylinder.
It uses 12 inch hub and drums with wheel sizes of 14-1/2 inches to 16 inches. The mounting bolts are sold separately and this item does require a periodic manual adjusting. What that means is that you can see right here it has rubber plugs that fit over the adjustment holes. Whenever its time to adjust you just pop these out and make your adjustments through there.That should do it for our Demco Galvanized 12 Inch Marine Brake Assembly, part number 23511.

worked perfect on my 6000lb loadrite trailer. I added extra grease to the wheel cylinder bolts and adjuster threads. I'll be dunking it in saltwater.

One Year Follow-Up - This was an extremely simple and cost effective option to repair my trailer brakes. One side had been contaminated by a leaky grease seal, but I replaced the brake assemblies, seals, bearings, and races on both sides of my single axle fresh water boat trailer at the same time. I estimate about 3000 miles on this trailer since installed and everything is still working great.

The Drum Brake Assembly was extremely great. The backing plate and the cylinder are plated so they will not rust or corrode. The springs are stainless steel so they will not corrode. They fit on my axle very good. I had no problem with them. They work just like when the trailer was new.

I had no idea that I could purchase an entire brake assembly - ready to bolt on! The local trailer dealers wanted $98 per wheel, just for the shoe lining alone. I saved over 60% and got all new parts. Put them on today, bled the brake lines, and went to pick up a skidsteer loader. Everything works perfectly. I will not buy trailer parts anywhere else from now on.
