Video Transcript for Deka Heat Shrink Butt Connectors Review

Today we'll be taking a look at a Deka line of Heat Treat Butt Connectors, available in five and ten packs, in a variety of colors and gauges here at Etrailer.com. We have one of the butt connectors out of the pack, take a quick look at it. It's labeled twenty-two and eighteen gauge wires, and the center section here, the metal part, is the actual butt connector itself. On the outside you've got the nylon covering, and these two large ends are parts that shrink down after you install your wires. It's a good idea to use a good set of crimpers, and also make sure you have your wires stripped back to about maybe a quarter inch. Then just crimp it down, bring your other wire in and do the same thing.

Then we'll apply heat to the butt connector to shrink up the wires. It'll take up the openings and seal our connection from dirt and water. Ideally you want to use a heat gun. You can direct the heat with it. If you don't have a heat gun available a lighter works as well. Using lighters get it hot after a while so it may be a good idea to use a barbecue lighter instead.

Since you can't direct the heat with this you'll probably have to apply heat a little bit longer than normal for the top side to shrink up as well. We'll go ahead and show our heat shrink butt connectors in typical application. In this case it's going to be behind a trailer light. We'll apply heat to go ahead and shrink the ends down and make a seal around the wire. We'll go ahead and do a test run and verify we have connection through our butt connector.

That'll do it for our review of the Deka line of Heat Shrink Butt Connectors. .

This 7pin RV side fit my 2018 View perfectly. Factory plug had the ground wire not connected. This product allowed me to butt splice the ground wire to the new wiring and complete a trip. Thanks to Bryon for helping verify fitment and fast service. All is working right now. 695292

I ordered this controller and additional parts from Laser. Before committing to buying, I asked him many questions. He answered them all in about a clear and concise way as possible while presenting a picture of how to install the device. It arrived today and I haven't started, but he also emphasized that I could call if I ran into any difficulties. I'll follow up when the job is complete. My experience in this context could not have been better. Michael 696587

Made a firm connection and shrunk down to seal up the wire nicely. While these connectors are a little on the pricy side, I think they are well worth it for any wire connections that will be exposed to the elements. 421371

The products were ordered on Sunday night late, delivered by Wednesday. Converting drum surge brakes to disc, electric over hydraulic on a boat trailer for 26ft Sea Ray boat. I had everything including Titan brake actuator, 4 kodiac rotor and caliper conversion kits with bearings, and new lines installed by Thursday evening. Installation was straight forward, everything fit perfectly. One of the calipers was malfunctioning (not releasing). I called customer service and I had a new one within two days, it's now installed and working great!! Great product! Awesome service!! 340159

Just received my order of new backing plate assemblies and some misc small parts. Ordered on line late Sunday night, confirmed I had ordered the right parts Monday morning before shipment went out. Customer service by phone was superb and the gal I talked with was perfect. Shipment was on my porch Friday afternoon. I did open box and inspect shipment that arrived completely intact/good shape and all looked good at this point. Not sure when will get to the brakes on the trailer but will post again when the job is done. So far nothing but good to say about Etrailer.com. Regards, John. 300439

Do you have a question about this Accessories and Part?

  • EOH Trailer Brakes Do Not Activate Immediately When Brake is Applied in 2016 Ram 3500
  • There are a couple of things that come to mind with what you described. Either you have a short somewhere in your wiring or you are using a brake controller that is time delayed. A time delayed brake controller, like the Tekonsha PowerTrac # 39523, will apply the brakes at a predetermined strength shortly after the brake pedal is pressed in your 2016 Ram 3500. If you would rather have a brake controller that is proportional (applies the trailer brakes at the same time and with the same...

  • Installing a Brake Controller on a 2016 Honda Odyssey
  • The parts needed and steps taken to install a brake controller, like the Tekonsha Prodigy P3 # 90195, on your 2016 Honda Odyssey will really depend on what they are wiring for your 7-Way. If they have wired all of the functions then you will simply need to connect the 4 wires from the pigtail on the P3 to the following functions: White - Ground (negative terminal on battery) Red - COLD side of Stop Light Switch (wire that gets hot only when brake pedal is pressed) Black - 12V Power...

  • Why is 10 or 12 Gauge Wire Recommended for Electric Brake Assemblies
  • The reason that 10 Gauge # 10-1-1 or 12 Gauge # 12-1-1 wire is recommended for 10" brake assemblies, like part # AKEBRK-35-SA, is because they pull more power than the lights on your trailer. I believe the green wire you are referring to carries the right turn/stop lighting functions as you can see from the attached photo of a trailer side 4-Way. The 14 and 16 gauge wires are too small for the amount of power needing to get to the brake assemblies and they could potentially get too hot,...

  • Will Water Damage Magnets if Electric Brakes are Installed on Boat Trailer
  • Electric brakes, like the Dexter Nev-R-Adjust Electric Trailer Brake Assembly # 23-458 that you referenced, are actually becoming more and more common on boat trailers. • Wire Size Butt Connectors is Needed to Connect Wiring for Electric Trailer Brakes
  • Electric brakes, like part # 23-26-27, use 16 gauge wiring. However, we generally recommend using 10 gauge, like part # 10-2-1, to connect to the brakes because of how far the wiring generally has to be run. So you need to use butt connectors large enough for the 10 gauge wire, like part # DW05745-5.
