Video Transcript for Deka Heat Shrink Butt Connectors Review

Today we'll be taking a look at a Deka line of Heat Treat Butt Connectors, available in five and ten packs, in a variety of colors and gauges here at Etrailer.com. We have one of the butt connectors out of the pack, take a quick look at it. It's labeled twenty-two and eighteen gauge wires, and the center section here, the metal part, is the actual butt connector itself. On the outside you've got the nylon covering, and these two large ends are parts that shrink down after you install your wires. It's a good idea to use a good set of crimpers, and also make sure you have your wires stripped back to about maybe a quarter inch. Then just crimp it down, bring your other wire in and do the same thing.

Then we'll apply heat to the butt connector to shrink up the wires. It'll take up the openings and seal our connection from dirt and water. Ideally you want to use a heat gun. You can direct the heat with it. If you don't have a heat gun available a lighter works as well. Using lighters get it hot after a while so it may be a good idea to use a barbecue lighter instead.

Since you can't direct the heat with this you'll probably have to apply heat a little bit longer than normal for the top side to shrink up as well. We'll go ahead and show our heat shrink butt connectors in typical application. In this case it's going to be behind a trailer light. We'll apply heat to go ahead and shrink the ends down and make a seal around the wire. We'll go ahead and do a test run and verify we have connection through our butt connector.

That'll do it for our review of the Deka line of Heat Shrink Butt Connectors. .

Pretty good product. If you can deal with soldering, you are probably better off doing that and shrink wrapping. I thought I'd give these a try and they are okay. At times, it is difficult to get the wire to stay inside while you crimp. The shrink wrap could shrink more. These are okay. Do they save time? Yes. Are they better than a nice solder joint? Probably not. Order more than you think you need. You will probably mess up the first one you use. I did. 561226

I don't usually do product reviews but wanted to post this one. This was my first purchase from etrailer. I purchased all four brake assemblies for our 5th wheel which I felt was the easiest and best way to go and had my drums machined. It was a very easy transaction, the parts came quickly and fit as they should. Very pleased with the product although I have not put the trailer on the road yet. BUT- The packaging was very poor. The assemblies were in a carton twice as big as it needed to be without adequate packing and the items rattled around to the point that two shoes were knocked out of place on the backing plates. I was able to correct it and no damage done, this time. Please improve your packaging. I would definitely buy from etrailer again. 344690

I like the concept of these connectors, but they have a few faults. 1. They don't seem to be a "standard" size. When crimped with my Triplite ratcheting crimp tool, they don't always crimp all the way. I had to move to the next smaller die, and that mashed the tubing a lot. 2. Even when using the correct Die, the tubing seemed to be significantly damaged during crimping. It made me wonder if the moisture proof nature was compromised. I think I'll just go with standard crimps, and put a piece of heat shrink over the connection. I know it is a extra work, but these don't impress me. etrailer is great though. great prices and service. 809677

Just upgraded to a 2016 Odyssey and need to tow my camper. Purchased the OEM hitch and OEM custom harness (from car to 4 pin on hitch. OEM Hitch comes with nice beefy flange where the 4 pin connector mounts. But I needed a 7 pin for electric brakes and bought this ETBC7 kit to do the job. I ended up cutting a custom hole in the bumper cover and figuring a way to mount the bracket in this kit directly to the OEM hitch. Wanted to share photos of the install for anyone else in the same boat. Advantage of my install is that the 7 pin is mounted above the bracket, protecting it from injury from low clearance obstacles on the road. One Con, is I had to mount it upside down so it didn't interfere with the metal bumper under the bumper cover. One issue I remember is that the Ground wire on the 7 pin harness didn't come close to reaching an available frame member, at the side of the car. I had to cut off the ring lug and extend it out to the edge of the car to complete the install. But it is done now! 699503

  • Can Two 14 Gauge Wires Fit i nthe Same End on a Heat Shrink Butt Connector
You would need a larger size heat shrink butt connector to fit two 14 gauge wires together in one end. The largest we have are for 10 to 12 gauge wire, # DW05745-10, and that size would likely work. There isn't a specific gauge wire used for the color of the insulation around the wire. In some applications where the red wire is for 12 volt power a larger gauge should be used. But in a 4-Wire set up on a trailer where the functions are running lights, turn signals/brake lights, and ground...

  • Reasoning To Reinstall T-Connector that Has Sides Reversed
I was able to pull up your order to see you have the Curt T-Connector Vehicle Wiring Harness with 4-Pole Flat Trailer Connector C56150 which has since been discontinued. Connecting the green side of this T-connector to the drivers side tail light won't effect the stop light function on your trailer, but will reverse the turn signal functions on your trailer. So, you definitely want to disconnect the harness and reconnect it on the correct side. Until you are able to do this, your vehicle...

  • Replacement Radio for Furrion RV Stereo DV1200
The Jensen RV Stereo part # JWM60A is actually a replacement for the Jensen RV Stereo AWM965 so this is what I recommend using to replace the Furrion RV Stereo DV1200. They both have DVD/CD/USB/Bluetooth/AM/FM capabilities so you won't be losing any features either. The new stereo however is a bit larger so you may need to open the cutout more but this should not be an issue at all. I have also attached the wiring diagram of each unit so you should be able to swap them out rather easily...

I check with all of the other wishbone harnesses that we have and they all use similar gauge wiring none of which is 16 gauge. For 16 gauge wiring you can use the Deka Bonded 4 Wire # 16-4B-1 which is sold by the foot. I recommend using heat shrink butt connectors like part # DW05744-10 and the Quick-Fix Replacement 4-Way...

I recommend using the etrailer Trailer Wiring 7-Way Upgrade Kit w/ Junction Box and RV Style Connector # e99011 to start off. • How To Replace the Concertone RV Stereo ZX75 with the Jensen RV Stereo JWM60A
The Jensen RV Stereo part # JWM60A is not a plug and play replacement for the Concertone RV Stereo ZX75 as they are made by two different manufactures. However, it will be easy to replace this as all you will have to do is splice the new wiring harness onto your trailer in place of the above. That said, the wires are all labeled so this will not be nearly as hard as it sounds. The only thing you'll need for this are butt connectors part # DW05744-10 and wire strippers.
