Video Transcript for Deka Heat Shrink Butt Connectors Review

Today we'll be taking a look at a Deka line of Heat Treat Butt Connectors, available in five and ten packs, in a variety of colors and gauges here at Etrailer.com. We have one of the butt connectors out of the pack, take a quick look at it. It's labeled twenty-two and eighteen gauge wires, and the center section here, the metal part, is the actual butt connector itself. On the outside you've got the nylon covering, and these two large ends are parts that shrink down after you install your wires. It's a good idea to use a good set of crimpers, and also make sure you have your wires stripped back to about maybe a quarter inch. Then just crimp it down, bring your other wire in and do the same thing.

Then we'll apply heat to the butt connector to shrink up the wires. It'll take up the openings and seal our connection from dirt and water. Ideally you want to use a heat gun. You can direct the heat with it. If you don't have a heat gun available a lighter works as well. Using lighters get it hot after a while so it may be a good idea to use a barbecue lighter instead.

Since you can't direct the heat with this you'll probably have to apply heat a little bit longer than normal for the top side to shrink up as well. We'll go ahead and show our heat shrink butt connectors in typical application. In this case it's going to be behind a trailer light. We'll apply heat to go ahead and shrink the ends down and make a seal around the wire. We'll go ahead and do a test run and verify we have connection through our butt connector.

That'll do it for our review of the Deka line of Heat Shrink Butt Connectors. .

I want to thank you for all your help with my trailer you were more helpful than you realize. So this is my trailer for a 22' Flats Cat shallow draft Catamaran. I totally dismantled my trailer and buffed by hand with a wire buffer and sand blasted in some spots and applied multiple coats of some very expensive galvanize paint (Z.R.C.). I installed all new C. E. Smith Carpet (about 80'), seven new LED waterproof lights, new springs, new equalizers, new tongue jack, new wench, new safety chain, new chain brackets, all new SS hardware and a 35' long wiring harness. I was able to send only one review with a picture of the safety chain and brackets. I'm having a little trouble with the rest..oh some of these items were bought locally or from your competitors, until I found ETRAILER. Your prices were cheaper for the exact same things. Your helpful how to videos were helpful. And Rose, your personal helpful knowledge made my buying experience very pleasant, I actually enjoyed talking to you! Thanks to ETRAILER and specifically to Rose G. 497936

I haven't had time to use these yet. I am confident, however, they will do the job. 157772

Perhaps because it was a cool, windy day and it took a more intense heat source to shrink connector or the difference in gauge between the wire on the lights and the wire on the trailer, but I had to try more than once to get a solid connection. In spite of this difficulty, these connectors are better than tape, especially when sealed with liquid tape. I would purchase again.

I have to say it's an absolute pleasure dealing with etrailer. Not only did my package arrive on time as promised but the experience of dealing with the people at etrailer such as Tommy and Dani made it that much more of fun experience. There was not a problem with answering my questions if they did not know the answer they found out the answer and got back in touch with me. Their prices are great their products are good quality and there's so many good things to say about the company that I could go on and on. Keep up the good work and I will be doing all my trailer business with etrailer. Just check out their website and see how much more they have to offer. 402701

All my items were received in timely fashion. Great service @ etrailer. However, Dexter (I ordered original Dexter parts) needs to up the game on packaging. I ordered four hub assemblies and the bearings were placed in a plastic bag which I'm sure banged around on the hub. A bubble envelope would have been nice to protect the bearings. I'm looking forward to upgrading my trailer with new Dexter Nev-R-Adjust brakes as was getting tired of constantly manually adjusting the brakes. Glad that etrailer has all the parts I need to do the job. 445268

Excellent products, shipped as promised and arrived on time. I have installed all the products. Although it took me longer then a professional installer, I had little to no issues. The online installation videos for all the parts (which were attached to the online order status sheet) made it extremely easy to install. The videos were of a professional actually installing the equipment step by step. etrailer.com has a customer for life. 508546

Nice snug fit on my trailer lights [interior hall + bath] for connecting new lights. I haven't/didn't heat them with flame yet to melt the plastic, even though I intend to. They work fine w/o doing so. 416934

For the rest of your wiring, I recommend the Hopkins Custom Tail Light Wiring Kit for Towed Vehicles # HM56200 and then cut and hardwire the 4 way into the 6-way connector # A10-6034VP using heat shrink butt connectors # DW05743-5. Any other lighting requirements for that trailer would have been up to the owner to meet. Please note that an exception that we mention is that if the trailer is less than 6 feet long the front side marker lights and reflectors are not required. This could very well have been the case with the trailer...

As most trailers are a 3 wire system you would also need to use the Vehicle to Vehicle Tail Light Converter part # 118158 to separate the brake signals from turn the signals. In order to install the light you would first need to take the ground wire (white) from the taillight...

They are waterproof and corrosion resistant and will mount to all surfaces. These work great with trailers over 80 inches wide. The left side has a built-in license plate light. • If your trailer does not have the mating connector for Rectangular LED Marker/Clearance Light # MCL35A32G then the best thing to do is to cut off the light's connector and splice it to the trailer wiring. I recommend using heat shrink butt connectors, # DW05743-5, because a quick splice connector would not hold up well in the elements. The gauge of the wire should be 18 gauge, small wiring since it is an LED light.
