Video Transcript for Deka Stackable Battery Cable: The Breakdown

Today we're going to be taking a look at Deka's stackable battery cables. These are available in either red or black, and in lengths of 7, 9, 13, and 15 inches. Each of these cables will come pre-crimped with eyelets on the end so you can make your connections. These are ideally used for connecting battery banks together. So you can add multiple batteries together, whether you're going to be using 12 volt batteries and hooking them together in parallel to get more capacity, or if you have six volt batteries and you're going to be doing a series parallel setup, these are going to be suitable for all of that. The color coding makes it easy for you to be able to identify which side is the negative of your battery and which side is the positive.

These are also a heavier duty welding cable, which is going to be better than your standard battery cable. You'll be able to pass more current through these cables, which is ideal if you are planning for an off grid setup. Here, we set up a solar panel with an inverter with our battery bank, and we use these cables to connect them together so we can ensure we're going to be able to get the most capacity and amperage from our batteries at any given point. Our inverter has a maximum output of 50 amps, and we want to ensure that our cables are going to be able to transfer that kind of current to the rest of our motor home without getting too hot and potentially breaking down. Now, while we mentioned these are great for getting battery banks set up, since they're a short length, it's easy to get those connections between your batteries. But if you get one of the longer ones, maybe about 13 or 15 inches, and your inverter is near your battery bank, you can also use these to make the connection from your inverter to your battery bank, because you want to have the largest, most durable wire possible so you get the most current and you don't have any loss through your wiring. And you can see here that they are stackable.

You can easily place multiple on one, and they can just lay like that. And they take up a very small amount of space. You'd see here, if you we're to slide that over a bolt, you're only taken up maybe a quarter inch worth of that bolt. So you could add many of these onto one stud with no issue. The eyelets on the end come pre-crimped, which is really nice because the equipment you need to be able to crimp a butt connector onto a wire this size is not likely something that you have sitting around. You need a high hydraulic crimp to do that.

So it's great that it comes pre-crimped. And then I like that they use some heat shrink on it to seal it all up, to keep any moisture out of the connection point there. This will just help ensure a long lasting operation of your cables. The opening in the eyelets is a three eights opening. So any battery that uses a three eights bolt or has a three eights stud on it, you can easily connect these cables directly to it..

Quality battery cables! I only wish they had the red wire in a 15”. It was tight, but worked out.

  • Battery Lead Wire for Trailer Battery Bank with Disconnect Switch
We do! If you don't already have the disconnect switch then you can use the Demco Battery Disconnect Switch # DM63FR which comes with a lead. Otherwise we have leads like the 13" Deka Cable # DW01485 that can be used to bridge the gap between the switch and battery. If you need a bit more length then the smaller 10 Gauge Wire # 10-1-1 will do the trick as well. I'm linking our selection of heavy duty wiring connections for you to filter through if one of the solutions I presented doesn't...

  • Recommended Parts When Switching a Single Lead Acid To Parallel AGM Batteries On an RV
I recommend a Battery Monitor Kit # GP44FR when you add the 2 AGM Batteries # BRW94FR. The monitor will allow you to see the state of charge, voltage, capacity and time remaining on battery power. This can help protect you from damaging the batteries by the charge dropping to much. You will be able to use the same converter/charger as both lead acid and AGM share the same charge profile. The Battery Connectors Black # DW04316 and Red # DW01485 can be used to connect the batteries in parallel.

  • Wiring 12 Volt Batteries for Same Voltage But Increased Amp Hour Usage
When you wire your 12v batteries in parallel, the voltage stays the same but the capacity is doubled. This is regarding the amp hours you referenced. You can use the Deka Stackable Battery Cable - 2/0 Gauge - Black - 13" Long # DW04316 and Red # DW01485. The NOCO Genius Smart Batter Charger - AC to DC - 6V/12V - 5 Amp # 329-GENIUS5 you asked from is able to be used when two batteries are wired in parallel.

  • Connecting Multiple Batteries for Increased Voltage or Increased Amp Hours
To connect batteries for more amp hours you would normally connect batteries in parallel so the capacity is increased but the voltage is not increased. This is how we recommend adding amp hours to a 12V trailer system. To increase voltage but not capacity, you would wire the batteries in series. This is how you would get the 36V from your three 18V batteries, but the amp hours would not increase. The issue with using 18V batteries if this is a trailer application is nothing runs off...

  • How to Wire Two 6V Batteries in Series for 5th Wheel Power
Thanks for reaching out! Since you're using 2 of the 6V batteries you'll want to connect them in series so you have 12V power. This means you'll connect the positive of 1 battery to the negative of the other battery. Then you'll connect the remaining positive terminal to your 2021 Keystone Raptor 423 power supply and the remaining negative terminal to the ground connection to complete the circuit. You'll likely have a cable like part # DW01485 that connects the batteries together. Attached...
