Video Transcript for Deka Wiring 05731-5 Review

Today we're going to take a look at the five pack of 16 to 14 gauge butt connectors. These vinyl insulated blue butt connectors have a wire range of 16 to 14 gauge. The wire gauge, you can see it fits, is actually stamped on here. They do use chamfered barrel ends in the inside to allow fast and easy wire insertion from both ends. The very middle has a built in wire stop for accurate positioning of the wires and these must be crimped at the ends for a good insulated connection, and this part comes as a quantity of five. But, that should do it for the review on the five pack of the 16 to 14 gauge butt connectors..

Wanted to upgrade my trailer to LED tail lights during an overhaul an new flooring. After stopping at 4 auto supply stores that carried the brand I wanted but only stocked the most expensive ones the company offered, I went to etrailer an stopped wasting my time. Exactly what I wanted. Priced honestly, and delivered quickly. Won't waste the time & gas next time. Just come back to etrailer an be completely satisfied. 332107

I ordered a Ventline Vanair RV vent fan. It arrived on time and in good shape. I believe I paid a fair price for this item. I have not yet installed the fan, but have no reason to suspect it will not be the exact replacement for the defective one in my Airstream. I also purchased the butt connectors to hook up the fan during installation. 274734

I installed the fan and it works fine.

What can I say? they work and are inexpensive. I had to find something to add to my order to get from 149.90 to go over the 150.00 to get free shipping, and if you own a trailer, it's always a good idea to have these in your toolbox! 51630

Do you have a question about this Accessories and Part?

  • How to Rewire an Old Cattle Trailer
  • It sounds like you are on the right track to rewire your cattle trailer. You are correct about the wire colors on the 7-way connector that you purchased. The colors that you see on the 7-way connector are typical for RV style trailers rather than utility, cargo, or livestock style trailers. The black wire should be connected to the terminal in the 7-way connector labeled black. This is the terminal in the 11 oclock position when you are looking at the back of the trailer connector (see...

  • Installing a Trailer Brake Controller on a 2013 Toyota Tundra with OEM Brake Controller Harness
  • It sounds like you have the factory brake controller harness so all you will have to do is plug the one end into the truck and attach the wires from the other end to the brake controller using butt connectors like # 05731-5. Your factory harness most likely will plug into the same place as the aftermarket # 3040-P. The plug-in port should be located under the dash, left of the steering column taped to another harness near/above the emergency brake pedal. I have linked the instructions...

  • Hitch Mounted Motorcycle Carrier to Haul a Yamaha WR250 Behind a Four Winds Class C Motor Home
  • As long as the trailer hitch on your Four Winds motorhome has a 500 lb tongue weight capacity, you will be able to haul your Yamaha WR250R motorcycle. I recommend looking at the Ultra-Fab Motorcycle Carrier, # UF48-979033. This carrier only weighs approximately 50 lbs, has a weight capacity of 500 lbs, and is approved for use behind motorhomes. The total tongue weight of this carrier plus your bike would be approximately 350 lbs on your trailer hitch. Additional tail lights are...

  • Wire Recommendation for Rewiring Utility Trailer with Brakes
  • For the brake circuit of your trailer you will want to run 10 gauge wire like our part # 10-1-1 which is sold by the foot and is standard copper primary wire. We use it all the time here on trailers and it works great. For bonded 14 gauge wire that has 4 wires bundled you would want the part # DW04923-1 which is also sold by the foot. A lot of times people use junction boxes like the part # 38656 to organize the wires on the trailer. Check out the install video I attached for more...

  • Tapping into 7-Way on 2004 F-250 for Stop, Turn, Tail Light Signals for Headache Rack
  • Since you need to retain the use of the 7-way at your rear bumper for towing while having the same lighting signals available near the cab for your headache rack, one option to consider is using a 5th wheel harness such as # 41157 from Hopkins. This plug-in harness provides on one end dual round U.S. Car connectors in a Y-arrangement that allow you to tap into your existing 7-Way (while keeping all of its functions active for your tow rig). On the other end of the 8-foot cable is a standard...

  • What is Needed to Wire Replacement LED Trailer Lights for Separate Turn and Stop Light Functions
  • A standard 4-pole flat trailer connector carries brake light and turn signals on the same wires. Typically the yellow wire carries both left turn and stop light signals and the green wire carries both right turn and stop light signals. The brown wire carries the running light signal for both sides of the trailer and the white wire is the ground. Please refer to the photo attached. In order to separate the turn and brake signals so they can be sent to separate lights you will need a vehicle-to-vehicle...

  • Availability of Wiring Adapter to Convert 12-Pin NATO Trailer Connector to 7-Way Blade Style
  • We do not offer any adapters to convert a 12-pin military trailer connector to a 7-way RV-style plug like that on part # H20043 but we can help you gather the parts you'll need to wire in a new trailer plug to match that on your pickup. We can also offer you an easier alternative. To re-wire the trailer conector you'll need a wiring junction box # 38656, a trailer-side plug like the 4-foot # H20043 (or longer versions such as 6-foot # H20044 or 8-foot # H20046) and ring terminals like...

  • Fastest and Best Way to Connect Trailer Tail Light Wires
  • Using butt connectors such as # 05731-5 is probably the fastest way to connect wires. Using a heat shrink butt connector such as # DW05744-5 would be a better, longer lasting connection. The white ground wire will need to secure to the trailer frame using a self tapping screw like # FA1131822.

  • Parts Needed to Completely Rewire Trailer with 7-Way for Brakes
  • Often times, people will run the wires from a 7-way such as yours to a junction box like part # 38656. From there, they will run the standard wire colors to the trailer lights, brakes and battery. I have attached a photo that shows how this setup works in the junction box. Most molded 7-way pigtails will come wired with the RV style color code. If you ever need to replace your 7-way connector in the future, you could simply open the junction box, remove the connector and wire loom and install...

  • What Parts Needed to Connect Trailer with Round 5 Pin Male Connector to a Vehicle with a Flat 4 Pole
  • If your trailer has stop and turn functions on separate lights (separate amber lights for the turns) you will need a vehicle-to-vehicle taillight converter harness for your Subaru that can separate the stop and turn functions. These functions are combined on a 4-pole flat connector. If this is the case you will need to fabricate your own custom harness from several components we can supply. First you will need a trailer-side 4-pole flat connector to mate with the Subaru 4-pole. You can...

  • Valley Journey Trailer Brake Controller # 52650 Has Constant Brake Signal at Trailer Connector
  • If your Valley Journey Brake Controller # 52650 delivers a constant brake output signal to your trailer connector you can use a circuit tester such as # ALL640595 to determine if the fault is in the controller itself or elsewhere. There are several potential causes for this issue. I have linked a help article that will be useful to you as you troubleshoot. Please note that in a separate email I have forwarded the instructions for the now-discontinued Journey. You can start at the controller...

  • Recommendations for Splicing Running Light Wires on a Tear Drop Camping Trailer
  • Instead of using a quick splice connector, I recommend splicing into the wiring using a butt connector and then using some shrink tubing or liquid electrical tape, # SWC50122, to seal the connections from the elements. We have different size butt connectors like # 05732-2 for 12 to 10 gauge wires and # 05731-5 for 16 to 14 gauge wires. You will want to be careful when adding lights to a trailer. If you add too many lights, it could be too much power draw on the tow vehicle electrical...

I think that I can expand on the instructions a bit to make a bit of sense out of the wording, and I have a photo of the parts you should get, see link. You will need to purchase 2 wire assemblies from VW, part number 000-979-228, that will have wire terminals on both ends. You will need to cut each assembly in half to create 4 wires. The...

There are a couple of places you can access a dedicated brake light only circuit on your 2000 Chevy Silverado. This plugs into the vehicle wiring either behind the tail lights or along the frame rail of your truck. This includes the tail light converter and is a plug and play harness.
