Custer Accessories and Parts - STR-MRLY

Turn your average LEDs into unique strobe lights with this small relay box. Simply hardwire to your 12-volt power supply, connect any LED, and enjoy 12 different flash patterns.

Features:

Strobe relay box turns your LEDs into strobe lights
- Can be used with 1 light or with a pair of lights
12 Flash patterns to choose from
Simple installation - hardwire to your 12-volt power supply and wire in any LED light
4-Wire pigtail
- Red wire for power into the relay box (12V power source)
- Brown wire for power to the light
- Green wire for flash pattern selection
- White wire for ground

Specs:

Dimensions including mounting tab: 2" long x 1-1/8" wide x 3/4" tall
Maximum load: 420 milliamps or nearly any pair of LED tail lights

Select your desired flash pattern during installation. Momentarily touch the green wire to ground to cycle through the flash patterns until you find one you'd like to use. Once you've selected a flash pattern, cap off the green wire. The green wire should not be permanently connected to ground.

EAA chapter 993 Installed the Led Strobe driver in a control box to provide strobe flashes of the top taillight. It automatically comes on each night on Jimmy Stewart's restored 1961 Cessna 310 at the Jimmy Stewart airport, Indiana, PA. It has been working flawless every night for the past 6 months.

A couple of things, your website lists the controller as having 4 wires it has 5. Two ground wires. It lists mas load at 420mA, the item is marked 400mA. Not a big deal but it could confuse someone. The lights I am using are 200mA, I am at half of the output so I hope it will last.

How Can I Get Trailer Lights to Flash when Disconnected from Truck
If your trailer happens to have LED lights on it then what you could do is use a separate car battery and a couple of Custer strobe drivers, # STR-MRLY or # STR-QRLY, and connect the output wires to the trailer connector wires as needed. This driver is only rated for 420 milliamps though so only about 2 LED lights be driver would work. And if the trailer has regular incandescent lights then it will not work because the power draw would be too high. Another simple option, battery powered...

How to Change Between Flash Modes on Custer Multi-Function LED Strobe Driver
I spoke to my contact at Custer and she informed me that to change between the flashing patterns of the # STR-MRLY all you have to do is touch the green wire to a ground (negative) source momentarily. So you would need to keep touching the green wire to a ground source until the desired flash pattern is found.

Availability of LED Light for Use as Third Brake Light
The # STR-MRLY would not be an ideal solution for a third brake light for either a trailer or vehicle. The part # STL80RB is a very common light we carry that gets used for that application. This light is 17 inches long and 1/1/2 inches wide. Check out the review video I attached for more info.

How To Wire the Custer Multi-Function LED Strobe Driver To a Pair of Tail Lights
The Custer Multi-Function LED Strobe Driver part # STR-MRLY can be used with a pair of lights. In order to do this you would simply attach the brown wire from the driver to the power wire of each light. If you were using tail lights then you could use either the stop/turn wire (green/yellow) or running light wire (brown) for this. If this does not answer your question please just let me know.

Does the Red Custer 4-LED # STRL4R Have More Than One Strobe Pattern?
The Custer 4-LED Strobe Light or Running Light - 3-Wire Pigtail - Red # STRL4R has the ability to be used as a running light or a strobe. It does not have a controller to change strobe patterns, so the integrated strobe pattern is what you see in the video and does not change. Availability of Red LED Tail Lights with a Strobe Feature
You can get any LED lights to strobe by using the strobe driver, # STR-MRLY. There are 12 different flash patterns so you are sure to find one that is going to work for the school buses. Red lights with a strobe feature are not available with a strobe feature built in.

Can Custer Multi-Function Strobe Driver Handle 10 Amp Load
The Custer Multi-Function Strobe Driver # STR-MRLY that you referenced is designed for LED light assemblies that don't draw nearly the kind of power that standard incandescent bulbs do. As you mentioned, this unit has a maximum load of 420 milliamps (which comes out to less than half of a single amp), so it's not going to work for a 10 amp load. Your only option is going to be with a larger strobe driver, which we don't currently have available, or with light assemblies that have a built-in...
