Hi there. I'm Michael with etrailer.com. Today, we're gonna take a quick look at this CURT replacement breakaway kit battery box. This is going to replace the battery case that came with your CURT Soft-Trac 1 breakaway kit. This will work with both the models that you see on the screen there. This is going to be a side-loaded case that will allow for easy access from the side.
The lockable lid is going to help deter theft by allowing you to fasten a padlock on. The padlock is sold separately, of course, but it is going to allow you to lock it closed so that you don't have to worry about someone coming along and taking off your battery. It fastens using four 1/2 inch by 2 1/2 inch screws, which are also not included. You will have to provide those separately. This is going to be a weather-resistant polyethylene construction, so it is gonna protect your battery from moisture and debris.
You do have the rubber gaskets inside the lid. That's gonna help keep water out. It is a bolt-on installation, so you'll bolt on using those screws, as I mentioned a moment ago. As far as our dimensions go, this is right about, right about five inches long by, I'm gonna say 5 1/4 of an inch wide and approximately 3 1/2 inches tall. So if you are needing to replace that original battery case, this is going to be a direct replacement from CURT.
So you can trust that your battery's gonna fit inside well, and you're not gonna have to worry about fit issues or compatibility problems. That completes our look for today. Again, I'm Michael with etrailer.com. Thanks for watching..

for my installation I made some modifications. 4 1/4" bolts - long over 3 inches bolt this batter box to my boat trailer. I took a hack saw and cut enough space in the bolt tubes to put nut at the back. Why? put the battery in the box . tighten the nuts with washers so the box is tight with battery in the box. Attaching the box to an aluminum plate. Bolts are long long enough to then put a second set of bolts behind the plate. In the space I had to work keeping the seal in place, the electrical leads on the terminals and installing the box was a problem. I am using a two pin connector to connect to the system or to the charger. If I take the box off of the trailer for the winter then I unplug the connector and remove the 4 rear nuts and take the batter and the box into a warm storage place and plug it into the charger. After I made this change I did like the box. Before I did that it was hard to get it installed correctly. To many possible items to get aligned. Box is inexpensive also.

VERY Solid Box. A bit warped but lid and box still sealed and the battery pushed it back to square. I was surprised there were no screws supplied to seal the box...but the rubber and end button were there so all is good.

Box has not weathered in the TX sun and seems to be keeping the water out.
