Install your Curt electric trailer brake controller quickly and easily with this custom wiring adapter. Simply plug one end of the adapter into your controller and then plug the other end into the built-in port beneath your vehicle's dash.

Features:

  • Plug-in wiring adapter allows for quick, simple installation of your electric trailer brake controller
  • No cutting or splicing required on most applications
    • Custom connector end plugs into the built-in port beneath the dash of your vehicle
    • Other end plugs into the back of your electric brake controller
  • Compatible with time-delayed and proportional brake controllers from Curt
    • Brake controller must have built-in plug for adapter to connect - will not work on controllers with pigtail wiring harnesses
  • 2' Long, 12-gauge wires have protective covering to deter damage
  • Limited 1-year warranty

Note: The factory brake controller plug on certain Nissan Titan XE models has a pin configuration that does not match up with this adapter plug. To install this adapter in those vehicles, hardwiring is required.

Installation of Curt Brake Controller Adapter

To install your Curt electric brake controller, you need to connect the wiring of the controller to your vehicle. Certain auto manufacturers offer pre-wired options, typically known as tow packages, wherein wiring is run for you from the dash to the trailer connector on the back of your vehicle. When this is done, a port is installed at your dash so that you can easily plug in a brake controller.

This adapter plugs into the port on your vehicle's built-in brake control wiring harness. The harness is located underneath the dash, to the left of the steering column, and it is taped to another harness near the emergency brake pedal.

No hardwiring is required to install this adapter in most vehicles. After you plug it into the factory port, you simply plug the other end of the adapter directly into your electric trailer brake controller. Because there are no wires to connect, installation is not permanent. You can unplug and remove your brake controller at any time to transfer it to another vehicle or securely stow it away.

It was easy to install and works as advertised. I have never installed or used brake controllers before so I can't really give a valid star rating as I have nothing to compare it to. For that reason I will give it an average rating.

Truly plug and go, except at the back of the truck when the trailer plug harness plugged in, the brake wire and power wire were crossed. Research explained that Nissan Frontier's are known for the unconventional switch with aftermarket wiring. I simply cut, switched, soldered. All good now.

Used with Curt brake controller. Only giving 2 stars as I'm having issues with the controller and at this time, not sure if it could be this cable? Unlikely but can't rate this any higher since I rated the brake controller 2 stars and this is essentially part of that setup.

The trailer light kit I got was very easy to install with the helpful video and instruction etrailer has. etrailer made it very easy to select the correct trailer accessories for my Frontier. They were helpful when I called and the website is very easy to use! I have made other purchases through etrailer because it is easy to use and they have what I needed all in one place. Thanks!

Easy installation on a 2019 Nissan Frontier with factory towing package. I opted to screw the controller to the left side bulkhead. The control knob mounted on the dash looks like it came from the factory. Much nicer than a controller slung to the bottom of the dash.

I ordered this wiring harness because it said it would work with my 2004 Nissan Titan. It does not. The plug on one end of the harness matches none of the plugs on the truck wiring.

Comments
Thanks for pointing this out, Russell. The factory brake controller plug on some vehicles primarily XE models do not have the 4 pins to match up with the adapter plug. The factory plug will need to be hardwired onto the brake controller adapter that was purchased.

So much easier than cutting wires and crimping butt splices. Plus it make un-installation easier and doesn't void the warranty for the brake controller. the time saved was worth the money for me.

Comments
One year later and unlike my guitar hero drum kit the insulation on the wires has not cracked and fallen off yet. Plus its nice to be able to unplug the unit from the car.

  • Where to Connect the Adapter to Install a Curt Brake Controller in a 2017 Nissan Pathfinder
To install a Curt Brake Controller, like the Discovery # C51120, on your 2017 Nissan Pathfinder you will simply need to plug the Custom Wiring Adapter # C51382 under your dash like you mentioned. I am attaching a video where one of our install guys installed a Tekonsha Prodigy P2 # 90885 in a 2013 Pathfinder using the Tekonsha Wiring Adapter # 3050-P. If you skip to the 2:45 mark you can see where he plugs in the adapter for the Prodigy P2. Your Curt adapter will plug into the same place.

If you had previously used the Custom Wiring Adapter # C51382 for the controller in your Pathfinder, this same harness should carry over to your 2018 model Armada without issue. They have not been able to physically test/confirm the fitment simply because they have not yet had access to the 2018 model vehicle, but there have been no generational changes between the model years so...

For your 2018 Nissan Titan I very strongly recommend going with the Redarc Tow-Pro Elite # 331-EBRH-ACCV2 over the Curt Spectrum # C51170, which does use Wiring Adapter # C51382 to connect to your 2018 Nissan Titan. The Redarc Tow-Pro # 331-EBRH-ACCV2, which you can install in your '18 Titan with Wiring Adapter # 3050-S, is by far the superior option because it is not only extremely effective and responsive but its manual control knob makes it simple to use; the Tow-Pro can also be mounted...

  • How Can I Tell if My 2013 Nissan Pathfinder Came With Factory Tow Package
All 2013 Nissan Pathfinders came pre-wired for a tow package, so we know your Pathfinder at least has something. If your Pathfinder came with the tow package option from the dealer, then you would have a trailer hitch and trailer wiring at the back of the Pathfinder. • Brake Controller Recommendation for a 2006 Nissan Titan for Tent Trailer
The Curt Venturer part # C51110 would have plenty of braking power to activate the brakes on the tent trailer you are purchasing. This controller can activate up to 3 brake axles so it would be more than powerful enough. I do have a better option for you though. The controller you referenced is a time-delayed controller. Which means that it applies a preset amount of braking power at a preset speed every time you touch the brakes. That can work out decently, but in reality rarely do...

There are two types of brake controllers: Proportional and Time-Delayed. Both have pros and cons, however, the proportional controller tends to be the one that most people opt for. A time-delayed brake controller basically functions as the title says. When you apply the brakes on your vehicle, there is a slight delay in the braking of the trailer.
