Video Transcript for Curt Electric Winch C31010 Review

Today were going to review part number C31010. This is the Curt Trailer Hitch Electric Winch Mount Plate. This mount plate has a 2 inch hollow shank which will fit into your 2 inch trailer hitch receiver. This long shank, as you can see, has three adjustable mounting holes to accept a wide variety of winch models. It is made of a durable black powder coatfinish steel which resists corrosion. You can see on the front it has the, the front actually will bend up, and then right here is your roller fairlead mounting points.

It is an updated design which will accommodate some of the newest roller fairleads. The universal design of this mount plate will support most major winch models. A few dimensions on this; the overall length on this plate is going to be 13 inches, the width on it is going to be 8 inches. Now the plate is inch thick steel. Now the distance from the back of this mounting plate to the center of the nearest hitch pin hole, the very first one right here, as you can see, is going to be 4 inches.

The next hole is right at 6 inches, then the last hole is 8 inches and thats measured from the back of this mounting plate. Now on the top where the winch would mount there are two sets, the two outer ones, theres two sets of four mounting holes on the mount plate which are designed for winches with the standard mounting hole spaces. If you use the outer set of holes it would be 10 inches center to center by 4 inches, and if you use the inner set of holes its going to be 6 inches and again by 4 inches. Those are normally the two most popular mounting patterns for the electric winches. Now the roller fairlead holes you can see are elongated and they will accept a 10 inch on center mounting hole pattern.

The actual center-to-center measurement of these elongated holes is 10 inches. Now we do also offer, this is just for the mount plate. Theres also an accessory, an optional handle guard kit, part number C31005 that we do sell separately. I have an example of that part number. It would be two of these handles and the mounting hardware.

Basically what these handles would do is you would just mount these to the outer holes if you want have handles to be able to pick up your winch and move it to another vehicle, or also the handles the way they are designed the way they bow out in front, they will also help protect the winch from any damage. So this is an optional part that you can order separately. We do have it on our website. Its part number C31005. That should do it for the review on part number C31010 the Curt Trailer Hitch Electric Winch Mount Plate.

Wife didn't want a beefy new bumper on the grocery-getter all year around. So, I tried this front receiver route for my infrequent off-road needs. First, it came quickly and was well packaged. E-trailer was great to deal with. Receiver is quite strong itself, but it is fastened with 6 bolts, none of which actually goes into the Jeep frame (only into about 1/16 steel). 2 bolts each side go through one side of the vertical upright piece that hangs the cross-tray from the frame behind the stock bumper. The other 2 go trough the big holes in the bottom of the thin steel bumper liner. If your winch does ever over-pull, it is far more likely to damage the Jeep than the receiver, I suspect. I have not been able to get a good definition of what “line pull” means but I have been told it's a rolling load type measurement being way lower in terms of static pull equivalent. Mounted, the receiver backs up to the cross-tray. The issue with this is that when used with a plate like the Curt 31010, it won't allow the plate to be fully inserted such that you can access the 3rd (deepest) hole. This leaves the mounted plate sticking out about 3” from the front bumper face and certainly adds unwanted leverage to any off center pull condition. It also looks bad. I've debated cutting off the 2” bar about an inch (or alternatively cutting a notch in the top of the jeep crosspiece). Both fixes have drawbacks. I don't like cutting the jeep, but if I shorten the plate shaft by a hole, I might have issues using it in the back receiver without having to remove the spare tire (or carrying a receiver extender). In place, the plate is quite wobbly in the receiver and creates a noise concern if driving bumpy roads . I may weld some shims to tighten the fit. Suggestion: Before you bolt the receiver on, put your plate in it with the pin in the deepest hole. Then take a pencil and mark the plate shaft where/if it sticks out the back of the receiver. You will then know exactly how much would need to be trimmed if you decide to later. Bottom line, I'm thinking about something more akin to a UTV winch (3-4.5k) for the receiver mount. I can still will carry a snatch block as a doubler in rare cases I need more. Regarding installation, I had the whole bumper off. While this is not necessary, I think it would be absolutely crazy not to at least remove the horizontal plastic piece on top of the frame just behind the bumper so you can see everything you are doing from the top. Two plastic push pins with Phillips screws release it. Think long and hard at a beefy front aftermarket bumper if you think you may need some really heavy duty winching. 177016

Just what I wanted for a project I that was working on. Found one local that was a little cheaper, but they had no stock. Now I can use my winch on the back of my truck or mount it to my trailer. 34241

I installed the front hitch bar to expand the flexibility and uses for my truck. The hitch fit nicely with only minor adjustments. I was easily able to install the hitch by myself. I have two primary plans for the hitch: 1- Use a trailer ball to move two trailers I have around my work area with precision and less guessing by facing forward. 2- I have a front winch plate that can be added as needed to use a winch for those off road needs. The staff at Etrailer were most helpful especially arranging a special delivery time to be sure I was home when it arrived. 338558

Works as it should and I have definitely pushed the limits of my winch, receiver and this plate with no issues. (7k truck + 11k trailer, up a fairly steep hill; my poor winch). 579270

The Badlands 12,000 lb winch bolt pattern fits the holes to be used for the handle set, so don't plan on using the handles with the Badlands 12,000 lb winch without buying new longer bolts. Lots easier than making one from scratch, which is what I've done before. Guess @ 70 I'm getting lazy. 308568

  • Hitch-Mounted Winch Mounting Plate for Badlands Winch
  • We offer several hitch-type winch mounts that fit a 2-inch hitch. These include the Curt # C31009 with handles, Curt # C31010 without handles, the Draw-Tite # 6495 and Bulldog # BDW20011 among others. All are shown on the linked page. Most winches will bolt right up to these mounts since they use industry-standard mounting hole spacing but it is possible that a certain winch might req

  • Front Mount Hitch Options for a Winch on a 2018 Ford F-150
  • The front mount hitch receivers from Curt and Draw-Tite that fit your 2018 Ford F-150 are parts # C31083 and # 65067 respectively. Both of these are rated for 9,000 lbs line pull and 500 lbs vertical load. From the 2 bolts holes on the Curt to the top of the receiver tube measures just under 7-1/2" while that same distance on the Draw-Tite is closer to 7". The Draw-Tite will give you more ground clearance but not by much. Instructions for both receivers have been linked for you to reference. If...

  • I spoke with my contact at Curt who said that your 2WD 1998 Ford F-150 doesn't come with the tow hooks which is why their front mount hitch # 31049 will not fit. When I asked if the hitch could be installed if you purchased and installed the front tow hooks he said it would be compatible then. So the reason you have been having trouble is because of those tow hooks not existing on your pickup. Sometimes the license plate mount part # C31002 will need to be installed as well but it doesn't...

To easily swap the Tiger Shark winch from the front of your Silverado to the back I recommend using the Bulldog Winch Front Wiring Kit # BDW20025 and the Bulldog Winch Rear Wiring Kit # BDW20207. • I checked with Warn and the mounting hole spacing for the VR8 winch is 10 inches side to side and 4-1/2 inches front to back with the overall length of the winch at 20.7 inches and 6.3 inches front to back. Based on that you can use Curt mount # C31009 or # C31010, Draw-Tite # 6495, or Superwinch mount # SW2050. At most your winch can draw up to 457 amps and a 650 cold cranking amp minimum battery is recommended. Based on these figures I would go with wiring and quick disconnect kit...

I have included pictures showing the mounting hole patterns for each so you can compare them to your Warn winch to determine if either will work. Even if a winch is not listed on the page that doesn't mean it won't fit which is why the hole spacing measurements are important.
