Conical washers are still working after a year on my weight distribution hitch.1396672

The weight distribution hitch I have only had the conical washers for the bolt that allows for the hitch to be tilted. I'm adding these to the other bolt mostly for cosmetic purposes. Work and look great.583836

I bought these Curt conical washers after I'd attempted to tighten up two slightly loose hitch assembly mounting bolts on another manufacturer's weight distribution hitch with a brand new torque wrench (that wasn't 'broken in') and ended up severely over-torqueing the original bolts and crushing the original washers. I wanted to ensure that the replacement components were equal to or better than the original ones for the sake of safety, so I bought these replacement conical washers as well as two suitably sized Grade 8 bolts and nuts. After properly torqueing these new fasteners, the hitch assembly hasn't come loose again and none of the components are showing any signs of corrosion despite being constantly exposed to the weather. Given that - in my technical opinion - the OEM hitch mounting and maintenance instructions called for more torque than Grade 5 bolts should be subjected to, in retrospect I'm actually glad that I ended up having to install these upgraded replacement components.297584
