Video Transcript for Curt Weight Distribution C17132 Review

Speaker 1: Today we're taking a look at a Curt weight distribution shank for 2-1/2 inch hitches. Now this shank slides into your hitch receiver and provides the attachment point for your weight distribution system's head assembly. This is designed for use with Curt weight distribution systems. You'll notice here at the adjustment holes, we have 11 adjustment holes for attaching the head assembly. Really gives you quite a bit of adjustment, a lot of flexibility as to where you want to mount your head assembly. And that's ultimately going to let you level your vehicle with your tow vehicle, as best as possible. You can use this in the drop position, or you can flip it over, and use it in the rise position, whatever works best for your application.

The unit's made from a solid, steel construction. It's very strong, and durable. And it has a black powder coated finish on it to resist rust and corrosion. Now the maximum capacity for this unit is 15,000 pounds. Maximum tongue weight capacity is 1,500 pounds.

It is designed to slide into a 2-1/2 inch by 2-1/2 inch trailer hitch receiver. It secures to the hitch using a hitch pin and clip, or a hitch lock. Those are not included, so they will need to be provided separately, and they're available at etrailer.com, if you don't already have one.The overall height of the unit, basically measuring from this point here to this point here, that gives us a measurement of around 14-1/2 inches. These holes are spaced on center an inch and a quarter apart from one another, again, on center. If you're using this in the drop position, if you have your head assembly at the lowest setting, it's going to give you a maximum drop of eight inches.

If you have it in the rise position, with the head assembly at the highest setting, it's going to give you a maximum rise of 12 inches. And then the overall length, that's measuring back to front, that gives us a measurement of about 12-1/2 inches. And that's going to do it for today's look at the Curt weight distribution shank for 2-1/2 inch hitches.

Hitch works very good. No need for the sleeve adapter anymore. Only issue I had was it was too much of a drop. Had to cut about three holes off of the bottom. Otherwise I was hitting ground going into driveways. 656744

  • Weight Distribution Shank with 8 inch Drop for Equalizer System
  • We do carry a Curt weight distribution shank that offers 2 more inches of drop than the Equal-i-zer shank part # EQ90-02-4900 that offers a 6 inch drop. The Curt weight distribution shank for 2 1/2 inch hitches part # C17132 has a 8 inch drop and will fit into the weight distribution head that came with the Equal-i-zer system. The Curt weight distribution shank has the same hole spacing as the Equal-i-zer shank so they are interchangable. The majority of weight distribution shanks have...

  • Weight Distribution Shank to Adjust for Taller Height of 2019 Ford Pickup
  • Ford trucks are getting taller and this can sometimes cause towing complications. The good news is that weight distribution shanks are standardized for hole size and hole spacing. This allows them to be interchangeable between brands. Since you have a reducer sleeve in your 2-1/2-inch hitch you will have that many more to choose from since you can use either a 2-inch shank with the reducer or a 2-1/2-inch shank by itself. All of the WD shanks we offer appear on the page I linked...

  • Can Reese Steadi-Flex Weight Distribution System be Used With Hitch Reducer
  • Though it is possible to use a hitch reducer sleeve in a 2-1/2 inch hitch with the Reese Steadi-Flex Weight Distribution System with Sway Control # RP66560, we have asked the manufacturer, Reese, about this in the past and they do not recommend doing so because it can reduce the capacity of the system. The best option to use the Steadi-Flex with a 2-1/2 inch hitch is to simply replace the 2 inch shank of the Reese Steadi-Flex # RP66560 with a 2-1/2 inch shank, the Curt Weight Distribution...

  • Parts Needed to Allow Use of 2-Inch Weight Distribution System in 2-1/2-Inch Hitch
  • Yes, you can use your 2-inch weight distribution hitch (WDH) in a 2-1/2-inch hitch in either of two ways. One way is to add a hitch reducer sleeve to the 2-1/2-inch hitch to drop it down to a 2-inch size to allow using your system as-is. We have many brands of reducer such as Curt # C45405; this and others appear on the linked page. The other way is to replace the 2-inch shank with a 2-1/2-inch shank and we do offer these as individual parts. All 2-1/2-inch shanks appear on the other...

  • Weight Distribution Shank for 2-1/2-Inch Hitch That Allows Increased Height Drop
  • Since weight distribution shanks are made to a common standard you can use any brand of 2-1/2-inch shank with your EAZ-Lift setup. Based on your dimensions you need a shank that will give you at least 4-inches of drop. The Equal-i-zer shank # EQ90-02-4900 that you referenced should work great since it gives up to 6-inches of drop (and so long as your actual tongue weight (TW) does not exceed its 1400-lb rating). Please refer to the linked photo of this part that has measurements. If...

  • The tongue weight capacity of the Curt weight distribution shank part # C17132 that you referenced is 1,500 lbs. I believe that is your only question but if you have any other parts from your WD system that needs to be replaced let me know and I'll see what we can do.

  • What is Length of Curt Weight Distribution Shank # C17132
  • The overall length of the Curt weight distribution shank part # C17132 is 12-1/2 inches. This is a couple inches longer than most shanks so it should work well for you, but since I don't know the current length of your shank it's hard to say that for certain. Most 2-1/2 inch Equalizer brand shanks are about the same overal length but they have the hitch pin moved quite a bit closer to the vertical portion of the shank so the Curt would easily stick out further than what you have most likely.

  • Recommended Longer 2-1/2 Inch Shank for a Pro Series Weight Distribution System
  • The Curt Weight Distribution Shank part # C17132 will work with the Pro Series Weight Distribution System part # PS49902 so if this is what you need then you will be good to go. However, the 8" drop that the above offers is quite long and if you don't use all of this then the shank might limit your ground clearance. If you only need 6" per say of drop then I would go with the Equal-i-zer Weight Dist Shank part # EQ90-02-4900 instead. In order to find out how much drop you need, simply...

According to the measurements you provided, you will need a shank with a 7-3/4" drop which means the above shank will be perfect for you. • Can Curt 2-1/2-Inch Shank C17128 Be Used with Fastway Weight Distribution FA92-00-1000
  • You can use a different brand of shank with a weight distribution system. Fortunately these parts are standardized for hole size and hole spacing which allows them to be swapped out when necessary. We cannot swap out components in the Fastway kit but you can certainly purchase and use the alternate shank. The Curt 2-1/2-inch shank # C17132 can be used with the Fastway weight distribution system # FA92-00-1000 if you want to avoid using a hitch reducer sleeve like # C45405.

  • The weight distribution shank we offer that has the most drop that fits a 2-1/2 inch hitch is the Curt Shank part # C17132 which has a drop of 8 inches. Depending on if you calculated the drop you need with the trailer's tongue weight on the hitch or not this could work.
