The Curt Weight Distribution system solved most of the trailer sway for us. Unfortunately, we needed to purchase a second shank to get the trailer level even after specking our purchase for a 3500HD Chevrolet Silverado. Seems like we should have gotten this shank with our kit. 153924

Comments
Proper shank height is determined by hitch height on the tow vehicle and coupler height on the trailer. Hitch height is not the same on every single Silverado 3500HD of a given year. The only way to know what shank will be adequate is to measure the hitch height of your specific truck on level ground. Then do the same for the trailer coupler.

I have a different manufacturer trunnion style equalizer and I was able to make this work with a few spacers because the down tube on the old hitch was 2 1/2" square, not 2". Our new Tahoe has a much higher mounted receiver than our old, and this leveled out our 30' travel trailer perfectly. Hitch was shipped and delivered promptly. 403531

Comments
One item to note is that this does extend out a little further than the average shank. Safety chains could be a tight fit if they are a little shorter. May need a chain extension.

This hitch adapted perfectly to my current Husky Center Line weight distribution hitch. Our new Suburban has a higher mounted hitch receiver compared to our old vehicle. This helped level out our 29' travel trailer perfectly after a few adjustments. Hitch was shipped and delivered earlier than expected. 520922

Works great with the Curt Hitch Head I bought. Assembling both together was easy and took very little time. I couldn’t believe how much better the trailer hookup was with a weight distribution system. Makes me feel better with the truck front end not sticking up when going down the road. 819641

A change in tow vehicle for my camper (Nissan pathfinder to F-150 4X4) meant that I needed a different drop shank for my weight distribution hitch to allow the camper to tow level. Having bought previous items from etrailer, I knew just where to look. Even with the free shipping, this item arrived very quickly and was wrapped very well. The shank is very substantial and should work very well for my needs. 750144

This is a solid steel link and it worked out well allowing for better trailer tung /ball alignment. The 45 degree reinforcing plate does extend the hitch out a couple of inches or so farther then normal but in using a weight distribution hitch I haven’t noticed any issues other than making it easier to step through. The only improvement might be a longer extension of the square stock beyond the pin hole to reduce side to side movement 733621

  • Recommended Weight Distribution Without Chains and Drop Shank Compatible with Raised Truck
Thanks for reaching out. I recommend using the Reese Steadi-Flex Weight Distribution System w/ Sway Control - Trunnion - 12K GTW, 1.2K TW # RP66560 which will remove the chains, and will allow up to a 4 inch drop at the shank. If you need a greater drop for level connection, then I recommend using the Husky Weight Distribution Shank for 2" Hitches - 9-3/4" Long - 5 Holes - 14K # HT30859. I've attached a couple articles to assist. The drop you need will be determined in the same way...

  • Choosing the Correct Rise or Drop for Weight Distributing Shank
Choosing a weight distributing shank is just like determining the needed rise or drop of a ball mount. Determine the height of the top of your receiver, and the height of the trailer tongue when it is level. The difference between these measurements is the rise or drop needed. If the height of the trailer coupler is taller than the receiver height, you will use the rise measurement mentioned in the product description of the shank. If the receiver height is lower than the coupler height,...

  • What Size Holes Are Used on the Curt Weight Distribution Shank
The Curt Weight Distribution Shank part # 17120 uses the industry standard 3/4" diameter holes which are spaced 1-1/4" center to center. The bolts which are used to secure the head to the shank are also 3/4" diameter. If you need these as well you can obtain them with the Replacement Bolt Kit for Curt Weight Distribution Systems part # C17076 which has two 3/4"-10 x 4-1/2" hex bolts.

  • Can Weight Distribution be Used in Ford 3 inch Hitch
We don't have any weight distribution shanks to fit a 3 inch hitch directly but at this time we do have ones that will fit a 2-1/2 inch hitch which might help reduce some of the play. For a Reese we have the # RP3215. This would bring you down to using only one hitch reducer. Typically the amount of spring bar tension that a weight distribution system puts on the hitch reduces all of the movement and anti-rattle devices aren't needed.

  • Can A High Low Adapter Be Used With Weight Distribution System
The best option I have for you to tow level with a weight distribution system would be to replace the shank with one that offers more drop/rise. The great thing about this is that these weight distribution shanks are all universal for the most part. The Curt Weight Distribution Shank part # 17120 for example offers almost 4" of drop. If you can let me know exactly how much drop you need I can make a better recommendation or you can choose from the list below. In order to find your rise/drop...

  • Extra-Long Weight Distribution Shank for 2-1/2-inch Hitch on 2015 Ram 1500
We do offer weight distribution shanks for 2-1/2-inch hitches that are 15-inches long. Using a 2-1/2-inch shank will avoid the need for your reducer sleeve. These items include the Reese # RP54977 for trunnion bar systems that do not use washers for head angle adjustment. To ensure fitment of the Curt Weight Distribution Shank # 17120, you will want to compare measurements to your Eazlift Elite Round Bar Hitch. This shank is designed to give a max drop of 5-3/4 inches with round bar systems, so if it fits it will provide you with your desired drop. 9 inches of ground clearance will be adequate for most situations. If you need the drop that the part # 17120 provides to tow your trailer level that would be the priority over ground clearance. This shank does not drop down too far so there wouldn't be a different option we could provide that is going to give you any additional clearance.

Since it sounds like you're needing more drop because your new truck is taller, I'd go with the Curt # C17122 which is 16 inches long and has a maximum rise of 10-1/4 inches or drop of 6 inches. The shank has 3/4 inch diameter holes that are 1-1/4 inches apart on center. Then, measure the height of the trailer coupler when...

Most weight distribution systems are designed to fit shanks that have holes that are 1-1/4 inches apart and the holes are 3/4 inches in diameter.
