Today we are going to take a look at the replacement head unit for the Curt Q25 5th Wheel Trailer Hitch. It has a 25,000 pound weight capacity. This will replace the head unit on your Curt Q25 5th Wheel Trailer hitch. It uses the two jaw locking system right here which provides a nice 360 degree jaw to kingpin contact because of that it will give you less rattle, more security than the slide bar models. This head does sit on a unique spherical axial bearing underneath and that allows easy pivoting of the hitch head. It will give you a smooth 360 degree movement. Not just front to back or side to side tilting.
It does use built in cushioning to help absorb any road shock. The handle itself is a short throw single handle operation. It is lockable which will let you easily secure the trailer to the hitch. It comes with the pitting clip but you can take the pitting clip out and put a padlock through there for extra security if you need to. We do sell padlocks separately on our website.
The head is a self aligning head. Again, which pivots for nice, simple hookup. Also on this one the nice feature to have is called a three point indicator system and they use a color coding to tell you if the hitch is ready to uncouple, couple or tow. And because they are using a color, you can actually see it from the cab so if you are in the cab here and looking back, the colors will dictate. Red means uncouple, yellow means couple and green means ready to tow. So what I'm going to try and do here is just spin this around to give you an idea of what I am mentioning here.
So if we turn this all the way around . I think if we get it far enough you will you will be able to see right here there is a round circle and they have the three colors around it. Right now it is showing green and the reason it is . The jaws are closed like if a kingpin was in there and it is all locked in position. So green means tow. You are ready to tow.
If you looked from the cab down there and see green, that means you are ready to go. So, if you open this up . Release that leaver and if you take this handle and just pull it out. Like I said it is a short handle, quick release. You can see now it is showing yellow which means couple. It is ready to be couple. Basically what that is showing you is both jaws are open and you can slide in there and it is ready to be couple. If the kingpin slid in and did not connect correctly and it showed red that means it is uncouple so you don't want to go anywhere until you get that straightened out. You want to make sure it is showing green so you are able to tow. Let's take a kingpin here and slide this in and you can see, it slides in. That slides over. It is showing green now which means you are ready to tow. The pit, the hitch head or the king pin is all in here ready to go. Then all you have to do is hook this latch over. Take your pinning clip and secure it. You are all ready to go, just like that. Now, also while we have got it turned around let me do inaudible 00:02:47. We have two pins right here with clips on it. If you take those clips off, slide these pins off . That will allow you to move this head from this crossmember real simple. One person can take it out. So if by chance you are in the truck bed and there is just you around and you wanted to remove the 5th wheel. By removing it piece by piece it makes it a lot easier for one person to remove the 5th wheel hitch. So let's just spin this back around. We will mention the lube points to maintain this. There are three lube points that are easy to get to. Easy access. They are marked. There is one right under here. It will say it is a zerk fitting. That one in the middle is to grease the lower bearing and then then there is one on each side. There's arrows pointing to it that say zerk fittings. The two on the side are to grease the jaw pins. It does include this plastic lube plate and this will let the kingpin slide smoothly into the hitch during hookup. They do recommend to use a lube plate on your kingpin. I am going to show you in a minute how to do that. On the side here there is three rows of holes so when you go to mount this to the legs this is installed in, it will give you about a four inch hitch height adjustment. Hitch heights is critical because that is what will keep your trailer and tow vehicle level. Hitch height is usually measured from the truck bed up to the top of the head. This will give you a range of four inches to get it correct for your application. This head is all constructed of sturdy steel. It has a durable carbide powder coat finish. It does include the mounting bolts, a nice instruction booklet and again, the plastic lube plate we mentioned. Application, again this is for Curt Q25 5th Wheel Trailer Hitches like the part number C16049 or the C16069 we do sell separately on our website. Gross towing weight capacity is 25,000 pounds. The vertical load limit or pin weight capacity is 6,250 pounds. Now what I am going to do . I'm going to open this up and release the kingpin that is in there. You can see as I pull the handle out, it will release it. Just like that. I see the jaws are open and again, if you look at that color coded indicator it is showing yellow. So it is ready to be couple. What we are going to do as I have mentioned, you take your lube plate, put that on your kingpin, press that all the way down as far as you can. Just to give you an example, this is what the kingpin would look like on your trailer. As that slides in, you can see it very simple automatically will release that handle. Shows green. Means you are ready to tow. Flip up your lever, put your pinning clip in and there you are all set to get on the road. That should do it for the review of the replacement head unit for the Curt Q25 5th Wheel Trailer Hitch with the 25,000 pound weight capacity.
