Video Transcript for Review of CURT Fifth Wheel Installation Kit - Semi Custom Fit - C16300

Hello everybody. This is Jeff at etrailer.com. Today I'm gonna take a look at the Curt Semi-Custom 5th Wheel Bracket Kit for the Ford F-150 trucks. Now this is a custom-fit part. It is designed to fit the 2004 to 2011 Ford F-150 trucks, and on this custom-fit part, I do like to recommend for you to go to our website, use the Fit Guide, put in your year and model vehicle, and it'll show if these will work for your application. Now these brackets here are designed to mount beneath your truck bed, and they provide the attachment points for your 5th wheel base rails to attach to.

Now it will require the Curt base rails which we do sell separately. They are sold in three different part numbers, part number C16104, C16204, and C16205. The only difference is just the color or the finish of 'em, but we do sell those separate on our website. Now these semi-custom brackets are required if you're not using a custom mounting bracket kit. These will provide a semi-custom fit, and it'll cut down the installation time when compared with the universal bracket kits that are out there.

Now to install these, drilling is required. It will include everything shown here on the table. It includes the four mounting brackets, two for the passenger side, two for the driver's side, all your necessary hardware needed to install everything, and a nice set of detailed instructions that will describe how it all goes together. Now these parts have a nice black powder coat finish to 'em to resist corrosion, and they are designed to work with industry-standard rails that will be compatible with B&W, Curt, Draw-Tite, Reese, and Husky above-bed 5th wheel trailer hitches. But that should do it for the review on the Curt Semi-Custom 5th Wheel Bracket Kit for the Ford F-150 trucks.

Had to place a second order to obtain the correct bolt and rail brackets for our 5 1/2 foot truck bed, but both kits were shipped out and received very fast. Now I just need to obtain information to return the initial incorrect parts.

  • If Ford F-150 Has 11,300 lb Towing Capacity Can it Tow 9,600 lb Fifth Wheel Trailer
Yes, if your truck was confirmed as having a towing capacity of 11,300 lbs then it could easily tow a 9,600 lb trailer like you mentioned. If you can get me the year and bed length of your truck I can help you pick out the best hitch and rail kit option for your needs.

  • Tow Capacity of 2015 Ford F-150
It's possible, but it depends on how your 2015 Ford F-150 is equipped. I looked up your truck and it's towing capacity is between 5,000 and 9,100 lbs. So you'll need to check the owners manual or with a local Ford dealer to verify. Looks like the EcoBoost engine models are the versions that have the higher capacities.

  • Highest Capacity Class V Hitch for 2004 Chevrolet Avalanche 2500
The highest capacity 2-inch hitch we offer for this vehicle is the Curt Class V Receiver Hitch # C15324. This bolt-on no-drill hitch is rated for 16K towing and 17K towing with weight distribution. There are no 5th wheel installation kits for the 2004 Chevrolet Avalanche 2500. The vehicle is rated to tow as much 12,000-lbs with a standard receiver hitch like the Curt, when properly equipped, but the short bed just does not allow for 5th wheel hitch installation.

  • Will Adding Airbags to a 2009 Ford F-250 Increase Towing Capacity
The towing capacity of your 2009 Ford F-250 will remain unchanged through the life of the vehicle in the eyes of the manufacturer no matter what components are added. The suspension enhancements that you are referring to will certainly help with your vehicle's ability to support the added weight but again will not increase it. Please note that when using a set of airbags on a truck that is also pulling a 5th wheel trailer you need to be aware of where the brackets mount for each. If you...

  • Will the Curt Universal Fifth Wheel Base Rail Kit C16200 Fit a 2014 Ford F-150
The Curt Universal Fifth Wheel Base Rails with Installation Kit part # C16200 is only a fit for your 2014 Ford F-150 if you also use the Curt Universal Fifth Wheel Base Rails with Installation Kit part # C16300 which replace the frame brackets that are included in the Curt Universal Fifth Wheel Base Rails with Installation Kit. By the time you add these above two pieces together you are close to the price of a custom install kit, the Reese Quick-Install Custom Installation Kit w/ Base...

  • Fifth Wheel Hitch and Rail Kit Recommendation for a 2007 Dodge Ram 1500 Short Bed
What you can do is subtract the weight of your truck from the GCWR (gross combined weight rating) and that will let you know how heavy of a fifth wheel trailer you can tow. Your best bet would be to stick with a trailer that is under the capacity. You would need a slider hitch like the # RP30051 and then go with a custom install rail kit like the part # RP50140-58 as a custom kit will minimize drilling and install time.

  • 5th Wheel Rail Kit Recommendation for 2004 Ford F-150 5-1/2 ft Bed
For a fifth wheel rail kit that fits your 2004 Ford F-150 with a 5-1/2 foot bed we have the Reese custom fit kit part # RP50081-58 which is a custom fit and will work great. Custom fit rail kits are the way to go as they minimize drilling and install time when compared to universal kits. Due to the length of your bed you'll have to go with a fixed hitch like the Reese part # RP30047 and a Sidewinder pin box installed on the trailer. Sidewinders are pin box specific so you will first need...

  • Will Curt E16 Fifth Wheel Hitch Fit Husky Base Rails on 2001 Ford F-250?
Your Curt E16 # C16115 will fit industry standard rails which are 22 inches apart like those from Husky. I am unsure of the model of rails you already have, but the correct Curt rails for your 2001 Ford F-250 Super Duty are # C16443-204, which are different than the # C16300-204 and # # C16441-204 rails that fit a 2004 F-150. I've added a link to a video review of these rails for you to take a look at.

  • Base Rails, Brackets and Fifth Wheel Hitch for 2009 Ford F-150
Though you can mount a fifth wheel hitch in your 2009 Ford F-150, I reached out to Demco who told me that due to the age of the Demco SL16 FWH-34 there are no brackets available which will work to fit that hitch in your '09 Ford F-150. Due to that your best option to pull a fifth wheel with this truck is a new fifth wheel hitch along with an installation kit and base rails that are compatible. The fifth wheel hitch I recommend for your 2009 Ford F-150 long bed is the Curt A16 # C16120...

  • What Upgrades Are Needed For Heavy Towing With a 2010 Ford F-150 Platinum
If you will be towing a heavy trailer with your 2010 Ford F-150 Platinum then a set of suspension enhancements as well as a larger transmission cooler will certainly provide benefits. The suspension enhancements are going to not only make for a better ride while towing but will also help to improve the longevity of your existing suspension components. The supplemental transmission cooler will improve the performance of your transmission while towing as well as improve its longevity. For...

  • How Heavy Of a 5th Wheel Trailer Can a 2019 Toyota Tundra Double Cab Short Bed with 4.6 Engine Tow
The towing capacity of a 2019 Toyota Tundra Double Cab Short Bed with 4.6L V8 (1UR-FE) Engine is 6,500 lbs for 4x4 models and 6,800 lbs for 4x2 models per page 177 of your owner's manual. Therefore, the loaded weight of your trailer cannot exceed this figure. If the trailer has a rotating pin box like the Reese Sidewinder Pin Box then you would indeed only need a fixed hitch, not a sliding hitch. For this, I recommend the Reese 5th Wheel Trailer Hitch part # RP30047 with the Reese Quick-Install...

  • Could 2018 Chevy Silverado 2500HD Tow 8,800 lb Reflection Fifth Wheel
I looked up the towing capacity of your 2018 Chevy Silverado 2500HD and the lowest towing capacity it could have based on options is 13,000 lbs so a 8,800 lb 5th wheel trailer would easily be towable with your truck. Since your truck has a short bed you'd need a slider hitch so that you'd have enough turning clearance to make sharp turns without cab and trailer nose interference. The B and W Companion slider hitch part # BWRVK3400-5W is what I recommend for several reasons. This USA made...

  • Can a 2019 Ram 1500 Tow a Rockwood Ultra Lite 2441WS 5th Wheel Trailer
Based off of the info you gave me it sounds like you either have the Big Horn or the Harvest 2018 RAM 1500 5.7L HEMI 4x2 Quad Cab with the 6' 4" bed and you have the Class III bumper hitch installed. According to my research the numbers you have are correct and you can safely tow the Rockwood Ultra Lite 2441WS 5th wheel trailer. The lower 5K towing/500 lb tongue weight ratings that you are looking at are only for that specific trailer hitch. It looks like there is also a Class IV bumper...

  • Air Bags Compatible With 5th Wheel Hitch For 2018 Ford F-150
We do have air bags that fit your 2018 Ford F-150 which are compatible with a fifth wheel hitch, though the Firestone are not. What I recommend instead is going with a similar option, Air Lift air bags, with the correct fit depending on if your F-150 is 2WD or 4WD: - 2WD: Air Lift LoadLifter 5000 Air Helper Springs # AL57268 - 4WD: Air Lift LoadLifter 5000 Air Helper Springs # AL57385 These are going to do a superb job of giving your F-150's suspension the additional support it needs...

  • Can a 2018 Chevy Silverado 2500HD Duramax Safely Tow a 16K 5th Wheel Trailer
From the info you told me it looks like the max 5th wheel/gooseneck towing capacities for your 2018 Chevy 2500HD is 9,000 lbs for a 3.73 axle ratio or 14,000 lbs for a 4.10 axle ratio. Either way you won't be able to safely tow a 16,000 lb 5th wheel trailer so you'll either need to upgrade your tow vehicle or look into a smaller 5th wheel trailer. Since it sounds like you already have the truck it would obviously be more cost-effective to keep the truck and just look for a smaller trailer....

  • Recommended Fifth Wheel Installation Kit For 2010 Ford F-150 With 6-1/2 Ft Bed
Both of the fifth wheel installation kits you referenced, part # C16300-204 and part # RP30035-426 are semi-custom installation kits and require drilling into the frame on your 2010 F-150. These are very similar in installation and both will work with fifth wheel hitches that fit industry-standard above bed rails. In my opinion I would go for the custom installation kit. These cut the installation time in half and use holes that exist in the frame and require no drilling. When installing...

  • Compatibility of Firestone Ride-Rite # F2525 Air Springs w/ Curt 5th Wheel Install Kit # C16300
According to my Firestone representative, the # F2525 kit you have is not compatible with a fifth wheel bracket kit. As you can see in the photo I've provided, the # F2525 attaches to the outboard side of the frame members, which is the same footprint where the fifth wheel brackets would install. There are two alternatives. The least expensive option would be the Timbren # TFRTT1502D which you didn't seem really thrilled about. The other option would be to remove your existing # F2525...
