Note: This 18" wide carpeting is designed for use on 4x8, 3x8, and 2x6 boards. If you use this on your 4x8 bunk boards, a small section of the board will be exposed on the underside.
Protect Your Boat's Hull
Over time, the carpeting that covers your bunk boards can wear down or even tear apart. This can lead to scratches on your boat's hull. Replacing the carpeting periodically ensures protection for your boat, and it will also prevent your wooden bunk boards from rotting.
Replacing Bunk Board Carpeting
To get started, remove the old carpet from your bunk boards, doing your best to remove any old staples and bolts from the boards as well.
Cut the carpet to the appropriate length and lay it down so that the backing is facing up, then place your bunk board on top. Make sure that there's enough extra carpet to wrap around the sides and ends of the board. Then wrap the carpet around one side and staple it in place.
Once you're done with the first side, tightly pull the carpet around the opposite edge of the board and secure it with staples. Loose carpet can easily snag or tear, leaving the wooden board vulnerable to moisture or damage.
Once both sides are securely attached, tuck any extra carpet at the ends in tightly, like you're wrapping a package, and secure the ends to the board with staples.

Ellen: Hey everyone. I'm Ellen here at etrailer.com. Today, we're taking a look at the CE Smith Deluxe Marine Grade Carpeting. This is going to be for your bunk boards and it's going to fit several different sizes so you can get those protected so that you don't scratch up your boat hull. It also makes it a little easier for that boat to slide up and on. Now, this is going to be made of a breathable polyester so it doesn't get any kind of moisture in there to cause mold or mildew, so it'll stay pretty nice for a long time.
Comes in this charcoal gray color and the finish on this is a soft velvet, so it's not, again, going to cause any scratches to your boat's hull. As you run your hand across it, it's pretty soft and just kind of feels like a thick fur almost.The pile height for this is going to be 5 30 seconds. It does come in an 18 inch wide length. When I put my ruler on it, it's about 17 and three quarters, if we want to get exact and then it's going to be 18 feet long. It does have a three year sun fade warranty, and we can use this, again, to cover several different sizes of blocks for your bunks, whether that's a four by eight, a three by eight, or a two by six.
So, depending on what you have, it'll be able to fit all those, pliable enough to wrap around. So, pretty easy to install. You just wrap it around your bunk, staple it in place, and you're good to go. You can just cut it to length as you need it. Can rinse off really easily and help to protect against mold and mildew.

- Is There Draw Back to Not Putting Carpet On Boat Trailer BunksBoats don't slide as well on bare wood bunks compared to carpeted bunks and typically if theres paint on the bottom of the boat it would be more likely to get damaged. Since you have an aluminum boat you don't have to worry about paint coming off but you will have to launch deeper most likely to compensate for the increased friction.
